Rant of a Lore Lover.

I think the living story is cool. It’s a great way to tell little stories about events going on around the world and a great way to give people a reason to keep playing (Yes Seyo I know I quit playing for almost a year). HOWEVER, they aren’t good for major storylines like the dragons.

Essentially, Zhaitan got his own game about the hero who starts out dealing with their own problems and slowly expands to dealing with Zhaitan. BUT there’s hints of Zhaitan through the whole game. Everything in one way or another once you get past your personal story has to do with him.

The other dragons should get similar treatment, and tiny mini stories leading up to them would mean that anyone not playing at the time would have little to no connection to the new dragon, which would do a disservice to the lore that Arenanet has already established unless you play through all of it.

Not to mention I miss the lore of the rest of the world, which was as vibrant and fun as Tyria (the continent. Why couldn’t we give that a different name?).

I love the lore too, and would like to see a lot more of it. I personally have lost a lot of the newer lore simply not by playing for a bit, and the game could only benefit from more for those of us who care.

I was just thinking about some neat things in other MMO’s that I’ve seen, and one of them I really liked was how in SWTOR, if you found game lore, it became available for you to view any time. I think this would be a great addition to the game, so people who cared could view the game’s considerable amount of lore.

How to play with lowlevel friends - issues

Being so much more powerful probably should be tweaked, but it is hard to do. People would only complain if they ran back to the beginner area and suddenly lost all their utility skills (you know… for those areas that make you level 4 or lower…). But as long as you have them, you’re going to be just plain better than your lower level friends.

I tried to play TOR being a huge Star Wars fan, and got my friend and girlfriend to play too. But I wanted to play on a single character, and at the time I had more time than they did. So I just plain couldn’t play at all when they weren’t playing. It murdered my momentum and sense of fun, and was the main reason I left. I never got past level 25, despite enjoying the game, because I had no alternative except to play with another character over the same content, when I hadn’t even seen the whole game yet. THe downleveling thing is greatly preferred, IMO.
