You know what’s wrong? To tell others they are wrong for doing things their own way.
Don’t think I will get the following 100% correct, but here goes:
— We don’t think pressing 1 repeatedly is fun.
— We decreased the range of short bow to make long bow more appealing.
First of all, Starcraft 2 does NOT “just have one play type”. Please note that DOTA/LoL was originated from Warcraft custom game, which was created by the community.
And I sincerely thank ANet for making GW2 the way it is, no monthly fee, no need to worry about level grind etc — I can now freeze my account until later when I choose to come back.
As many has pointed out: decrease short bow’s range to make longbow range more appealing is rather ill-intended.
I use longbow because I love it. Is it painful to use? Definitely. Do I still want to use it? Of course!
I use short bow because I love it. Would I still use it after the nerf? Sure I do. Is it painful to see it nerf? Of course!
Would I exchange to use longbow more, now that short bow’s range’s nerfed?
This is a rather low-blow, and borderline insulting… Let me close my rant with the following in-game perspective:
You created a guild, advertised it hard with “we love to do them all!”. Many member whom you never met in person in real life joined, then you put every influence into WvW buff. Some member asked to invest some PvE buff and you answered — “But this way, you will all come to play WvW!”
wow…
some guys rly have not much questions here Oo
i was think the ranger is so broken?give more ideas pls
and hope it comes to a real ranger talk on sotg… -.-
I think keeping the list short (and straight to the point on selected major flaws) would work better in players’ favor.
…It’s not like we don’t have in-depth details in many of the forum posts already — it’s no dev spending time going through them.
Although you had already pointed out it’s more for “PvP”, if it is still possible…
“What’s the maing focus/direction for GW2 (PvE, PvP or WvW), and the professions, for the next while?”
…And I pray they would refrain from using answers such as every-and-all things — adding salt to injury hurts, just my two cents.
After work day, North America night time, on KN —
Here is my QQ, comments are welcome…
WvW, on KN facing Mag, 1-on-1 Ranger vs Thief near sentry/Danel mine camp.
- Thief less than 10% health, used Shadow Refuge.
- Ranger used Barrage inside that red circle, then switched to short bow to fire shots in that general direction.
- Ranger’s pet walked back to it’s master, stared at her with “WTF are you doing?” face…
- About 8~10 seconds after, the downed thief with 70% health revealed on the ground.
PS. If you are reading this, I didn’t use my finish move after the reveal — in hoping you would stop trolling with our guild tag. (Plus the parody on our guild name.) Thank you.
Sieran went from a happy-go-lucky eternal optimist to a sacrificial pawn with an entire life ahead of her. I just don’t get it. Could someone enlighten me as to what I’m missing?
The motivation for the mentor to sacrifice themselves is clear, and also the same across all three of them. They all want to save someone, the PC. And it comes with different reasons: Forgal for heroic, Tybalt for self-redemption, Seiran for friendship.
The questionable part, at least to me, is still the execution. Especially for Seiran.
…But then I turn on WvW and stop thinking such a thing now…
Thank you for the notes, very easy to understand.
Must admit that I did not think of the play-through order as a factor, and it is really interesting to take that into consideration. Still, even though it is a somewhat expected plot in my second play-through (I did Vigil > Whispers > Priory), I wouldn’t say I felt the disconnection with Tybalt – not as much impact, but I can totally relate to his character.
I think the challenge here, as the earlier response pointed out, is that the story branches uniquely, with three mentors developed so well individually, then I compared them together because suddenly everyone doing it with the same execution.
IMHO, doing it with the same motivation is not a problem, for one I think it works out well – they all want to save someone, with different reasons, Forgal for heroic, Tybalt for self-redemption, Seiran for friendship. This emphasis the character and make them memorable.
Then comes the speech, and I felt exactly as the above response said – I related to Forgal and Tybalt’s character, but not Seiran. Don’t get me wrong, she’s a great character, but I felt disconnected right there.
And this is what makes me wonder, what would make the scene connected with Seiran?
…sacrificed herself in Claw island arc
While I enjoy going through many varieties of the story across different race+order, this is perhaps the first time I felt so disjointed upon completing a scene.
When Forgal (the Vigil’s mentor) did it, this scene fits in perfectly. It makes sense because he’s capable and it fits his character.
When Sieran (the Priory’s mentor) did it, it suddenly became… Forced? She’s neither capable nor it fits her character.
IMHO, instead of giving the hero a speech like Forgal did, I would say it might even fit in better if Sieran tricked the hero out. Like… “Go grab my crisis control pack while I distract them here” or simply “Bring the wounded to the ship first and I will join you quickly”?

After completing the story “The battle of claw island” (Lv51 Guardian at that time, completed the story alone), the story description is incomplete.
After already completing the story “Bad Ice”, going into Durmand Priory instance at Lornar’s Pass shows the map of Wyrmblood Lake instance at Dredgehaunt Cliffs.
