Port Changes Coming Tomorrow?

Well. Most people don’t seem to realize that the primary selling point of a thief is not its stealths or damage (which really is mediocre at best), but the mobility. Z axis teleportation allows thieves to jump in/out of teamfights (and deliver their somewhat sad, but outcome-changing 4-6k burst. Gimping verticality essentially cuts down their usefulness across all the maps and really makes them as vulnerable out on the open field.

Feature Pack- Thoughts

Phosphyr.1704

I’m sure by now that the majority of us are now informed of the level-gating of certain activities that we used to be able to enjoy (Vistas, skill points, nodes etc etc). If not, feel free to browse the forums for the plethora of subjects regarding said matter.

Now onto the post:

While I understand Anet’s desire to make the game easier and more forgiving to newer players, they seem to forget that games are meant to be immersive experience. Given, a new player joining GW2 may be daunted by the number of concepts he/she might have to grasp (I know the concept behind combo finishers and fields escaped me for the longest of times), but that is further reason to keep such activities open to newer players.

Why? Well first of all, in the interests of…well, fun. Repetition is something no gamer likes to do; grinding, for example, was a process previously made relatively less painful in GW2 when compared to other MMOs. However, with the new content pack, much of the variety open to newer players is inaccessible, funneling them into a more limited, and focused playstyle. While more forgiving, it is also more boring: therefore, much less likely to maintain a level of interest and/or leaving the player with a positive impression that will convince them to stick with the game.

The second reason, realistically, is that of practice. Let’s face it, most players learn…by kittening up. Over. And over. And over. Failure is just a natural part of the learning process; it teaches us what works…and what doesn’t. Squirreling away traits and utilities behind absurd level requirements will do newer players no favors: they will most likely get comfortable using the limited skillset available to them….and not learn to use all their skills in conjunction (for example, stacking stealth on an engie, which often involves at least 2 utilities, a heal, and a weapon skill).

Thirdly, and most importantly, veterans. Let’s face it, the majority of GW2 players have already been around for extended periods of time. And, no doubt, many of these players have alts (I for one, have 14). Given our previous experience with the game (and no doubt, our acquired distaste for repeating zones/regearing, and the whole shebang that comes with regrinding a character), we do not need our experience further limited with a mind-numbing limitation of our available actions. However, it is the veterans that, for the most part, make up the paying portion of the consumer base, often buying skins from the trading post in our never-ending lateral endgame progression. Spoonfeeding us the material that we’ve done, many, many times before, often leaves a rather bitter taste in our mouths…as well as a general tightening of our wallets. We pay for a game we love, not one that seems to push us to second priority in favor of ‘newer players’.

TL; DR: Gw2 is a video game. Like all video games, the instructions are rarely read. Most choose to mash buttons and experience the game through trial and error. A playstyle that the new patch seems to openly resist.

Arenanet want $$? Make an expansion :)

Ok there are a few points to consider:

1. Expansions would not make more money than cash shop. There would be a short period of time where profits might spike but beyond that, no. Expansions are a one-time shot whereas cash shop is a continuing source of income. A player spending money for quality of life items in the cash shop over a period of 2-3 months will already give Anet more money than a player buying an expansion.

2. Given where the story is right now, an expansion wouldn’t exactly make sense. Anet clearly has a plan with the Living Story, which MAY set them up to release an expanded personal story. An expansion at the current time would really just be…out of place. “Here, take some new zones and shut up!”

Just my two cents.

win 1v1 vs each class at bronze, silver, gold

win 1v2 regular levels, bronze

win 1v3?

Sounds sorta fun. What’s up with bronze silver and gold though?

I’m assuming he means WvW tiers. In which case, I’ll point out that the tiers are not indicative of player skill. In every tier, there are good and bad players. Save for the fact that the higher the tier, the greater the chance of getting hit by a gank squad/zerged.

The ferocity food really hit Hidden Killer builds quite hard. However, if you run with runes of strength with your build, it helps mitigates the nerf (7% more damage with might, and with your traits, you proc might on stealth). Downside is you lose the 25% movement speed but that’s really an acceptable tradeoff.

As with your armor, that really depends on your comfort level and server placement. Run as glassy as you’re comfortable with. On more populated servers consider running Valk/w 1 or 2 pieces of knight. (I personally run all Valk armor w/Knight’s chest all zerker trinkets). On less populated servers where the chances of getting ganked by roaming squads, use more zerk pieces if possible.

As for food/consumables, I tend to drift towards maintenance oils+something with power mainstat/toughness or vitality secondary (food).

Not sure if this has been mentioned yet, but over in Metrica Province (Luminates Plant I believe) there’s a event there where you have to stop the Inquest before they steal all the golems. If you fail the event, you can see 2 Asura (Xapp and Kippf) talking that is clearly a reference to Futurama.

Still loving my Asura Thief

Sword Dagger is a definite improvement over P/P. But it relies heavily on evades and mobility. Watch a few videos on youtube and see if the playstyle appeals to you.

Correct me if I’m mistaken, but I’m pretty sure Scarlet wears the Magitech set from the gem store?
