I’m planning on using this hood and a gear set I’m putting together as an alternate set of gear for my Necro. As Farzo said, it originally came out during Winterfest. It has come out again during WInterfest as well. If it does come back again, I would assume it would be during WInterfest (if at all). I hope that it does, I’m going to nab one this time.
So, I made it through the meta-event that I’ve heard everyone say that you have to do to get crystalline ore, and I ended up disappointed. Wiped the first time, made it by the third time. So this was an investment through out the day. I didn’t assume I would fine a lot, but I assumed I would find one at least. I didn’t end up finding any of the Noxious Pods. Now, I’ve heard some other things from people that you don’t need the meta-event to find these. That these pods are quite rare and it just takes some hunting to find them, but you don’t have to actually wait for the event to complete and just farm for the 10-15 min given to you after the event is complete. My question is, can you get them outside of the event, or is it only after the event is completed?
I wouldn’t say that Dungeons are dead. Maybe not popular, or as popular as they were. Though I would attribute them to being done by so many people, this being why. Though if you look at other games, like WoW, the Dungeons are still maintaining more popularity in this game then they did in that game (which most people think they did very well). I mean in WoW when the new Dungeon came out the old Dungeons were pretty much forgotten for the most part. Though they could be doing more to make them better and add new life to them, to the new players they still provide a lot of fun and a new experience, and you can see from the LFG in game that Dungeons are still commonly done.
I would say that Fractals are the obvious end tear focus for difficulty when you get to the higher tiers of play, and the 10 man raids will add another level of difficulty and something new to the game (though imagine trying to coordinate a 10 man run…. sounds horrible). I think the Guild Hall system is going to be another aspect that is a lot of fun that is coming up. I would say that Anet has a difficult time staying focused with releasing new content and keeping to projects, though with what they are bringing out with the xpac, I would say that it’s a fair amount of material.
Raids
More fractals (think I read this)
New area
New stuff for each class
New class
New area in WvW (I think I read this)
And probably a lot more stuff I’m forgetting. They still get stuff done, though it would be nicer if they could get it done quicker.
Will the new skills be available outside of the expansion, or will everything related to the expansion have to be purchased? Like the new shouts for the Necro, for example. I googled this and couldn’t find a direct answer.
I like that build
I ‘m not sure what I’m going to use as of yet, if I’m going to even use the Reaper yet (though I’m thinking I will). I’m going to work with a build here soon and post something later on.
Well, I think it looks fine. If you want “logical” and want to quantify something to making complete sense then i think you’re playing the wrong game. Now, if think about this from an occult view, if you want to make it “logical” (sense Necromancy is a form of magic and an aspect of the occult/magic/sorcery) we can bring in the logic and ideas used in such things.
If we did do this, then we could look at the Scythe as a magical manifestation of a persons will, just as common practitioners use Athame/dagger/wand/swords, and a variety of other tools. Now, the general idea is that such items, physical or of magical creation, are a manifestation of the persons Will and allow it to be directed in the manner they so chose. A staff that is 15 to 20 feet tall might seem like it would weigh an obtuse amount, though only it if was physical, which in this sense it is obviously a manifestation of the necromancer.
The Scythe would be a tool allowing the Reaper to direct his will in a manner that suited him to his style (as in, the Scythe being seen as a common symbol/weapon of death). The tool being used is only a medium to the will of the Necromancer/Reaper. It moves as fast as the necromancer can perform a spell, or dictate something that it is he wants done. Hence, the time it takes to cast a spell or a swing of the huge scythe, it isn’t that it takes that long to swing that, it’s all magic being done. It takes time for the magic and the Will to be done, the Scythe has little to do with it.
At least if you want to talk about logic behind it as a weapon. I think it looks pretty sick, I enjoy it.
So now that we know more about the Reaper and the skills, I’m trying to come up with a bunker build that uses the new Reaper spec. Right now I’m through Death Magic, Soul Reaping, and Spite. My focus has been on high toughness, power, vitality. I have 2500+ toughness, in DS I can get up to 2800+, I think close to 2900 at peak. With one of the talents that converts a percentage of this to power, I end up with a fair amount of power too (so I don’t hit like a wet noodle).
Reaper, with the Chilling effect and damage reduction seems like it could make this even more worth while. What do you guys think? How would you go about it?
I think that with Reaper, I will be able to keep the majority of my toughness, though I might have to sacrifice some of my health. Though I do think that staying in DS will be a much, much longer thing. Which, in general will make survivability even higher, making you a better tank.
My Necro is more focused on dungeons, and PVE, though I still do a fair amount of WvW. Generally I’m not on my own, I usually have my wife with me, or my brother. I attempt to tank and cc the best that I can and try to be annoying to have them attack me, while they can’t really do a whole lot with the high amount of toughness, vitality, and through using death shroud. Generally we are in smaller scout parties then in the larger ones.
I was thinking that as far as skills go, the Freezing would work exceptionally well in movement reduction. Though it isn’t an outright tanking, it does provide movement impairment, which can negate damage and help the other people that I would be with to kill them. The melee focus of the great sword, being able to get close to the enemy, will help a lot with staying to them. Being a tank, this is great, it makes it harder for the enemy to kite you. This would be more focused on the WvW side of things though.
Anyway, it’s what I’ve come up with so far.
Hello everyone, I don’t post here a whole lot, though I wanted to bring up some theory crafting. I run a Tank necromancer, right now I’m pushing about 2500 toughness unbuffed. I’m wanting to see what people on here think about with the new Elite Specialization coming out, about being able to increase your level of tank. Wanting to see the different builds that people can come up with! Lets do this for both PVP, and PVE.
