I agree with Bridlegoose. Please make this replayable. It’s a fun minigame!

Seconded. The instant blinking in and out of existence is so bland, and immediately reminds me I’m in a video game rather than a fantasy world. It doesn’t have to be too fancy. Just some kind of teleportation animation. Pleeeeease?

I concur with this sentiment. ArenaNet has done an extraordinary job of creating an inclusive and socially conscious setting. I’d love to see that extended to this detail as well. It may seem like something small, but the symbolic importance of it is big. Here’s hoping we’ll see more variety in the ruling class of Elona.

Great. Even more getting in the way of those of us that find crafting unbearably boring. Bad move, Anet.

I’m not against not having the toggle, and i’m not for it either. The point is it’s not a big deal. They even ended it 30 minutes early and people are so traumatized by it. If they do implement it great, but if not it’s okay too. Just enjoy the game.

I’m trying to enjoy it, I really am. That’s the point that many of us have been trying to make. This prank interfered with our ability to enjoy the game. I’m a full-time student. So, like many, I have limited time to play. I gave it a shot several times since the prank began, and I just wasn’t having fun after the first minute or two.

I’ve done my best to stay level-headed and civil through this. I think you have, too (which I do appreciate). I just hope it goes to show people (and maybe ArenaNet?) that there are rational people that want and deserve to be able to opt out of this in the future.

As many complaints as everyone has against Anet, if the majority of the player community in fact not like April Fools jokes they would have stopped back in GW1. The same exact comments were made last year saying that bobbleheads were annoying (boohooooo) also asking to toggle on or off. If they cared in the slightest about the complainer’s opinions on April Fools, a prank that lasts only 24 hours, they would have done something about it beforehand. There is nothing you can’t do now in game as you could before.

Once again, your second comment of ‘making everyone happy’ is NEVER going to be possible. Either you are new to the forums or you are ignorant. People will always find things to complain about here. Putting in a toggle would still have people complaining.

You make a fair point, but an anecdote isn’t evidence, nor does it prove anything about a “vast minority”. So maybe we could stop with the hyperbole.

I can’t understand why anyone is so vehemently opposed to a toggle for these pranks. You win, I win, everyone wins. Will people still complain? Yeah, sure. Some of those complaints will be valid, others will be bogus. But just take a look at the number of people saying the exact same thing: “Please let me turn it off.” Not “Get rid of it”, but “give me a switch”.

It’s a reasonable request, which makes those railing against it unreasonable.

You need proof that GW has always done April Fools jokes? I guess I also need to be your /wiki

I was asking for proof that “the people that hate this prank are in the vast minority”. That sounds like a statistic you made up on the spot, but I welcome evidence to the contrary.

And your comment of ‘Anet trying to please anyone’ is just silly. Even if there was an option to toggle the prank on or off, you have all the complainers saying ‘oh noooo but what about the random plane from last week on the newz!?!?!?’

I’ll just quote myself and let you figure it out:

I dunno, I just don’t get why Anet wouldn’t want to please everyone*. This is one of the few opportunities they have to do so.

(*Those connecting this to the airplane crashes notwithstanding. I’m not touching that subject with a ten-foot pole. There’s no rational debate to be had over something so emotionally driven.)

As much whining as the forums are showing, believe it or not the people that hate this prank are in the vast minority. Don’t expect the Anet team to change a tradition they had done the last 10 or so years including in GW1 to change just because you and some others don’t like it.

I’ll believe it if you can show me some data to demonstrate it.

I’ve noticed no matter what anet does to update the game, big or small, there will ALWAYS be complainers.

This is true. I certainly won’t deny it. But most changes aren’t so in-your-face and impossible to overlook.

Because it is a tradition that Anet has done since GW1 during April Fools, they go all the way. If it’s that big of an issue, go to your options and turn off post processing to remove the old timey look. If the airplane sound is an issue turn off dialogue volume. But the airplane hands are on the house feel free to enjoy that.

Nah. I’d rather that those that like it be able to enjoy it, and those that dislike it be able to turn it off. I’m one of those that don’t enjoy it. It actually really ruins the immersion for me, and if I didn’t want immersion, I wouldn’t put money into a game designed to look, sound, and feel like a fantasy world.

Because it’s April Fools and guild wars ALWAYS does something to celebrate it. And just like last year’s bobblehead laboratory, we will more than likely be able to buy something on the gem store that can simulate the airplane whenever we want

I am aware of this. But since it will normally only be available for a single day, it would be a waste of time and resources to build in an manual off-switch. That is all I am saying.

By that logic, it’s an even bigger waste of time and resources to build the prank in the first place. Why is it okay to spend all that energy on the prank to please those that like it, but not to spend far less energy to satisfy those that don’t?

A “disable” option would make -everyone- happy.

How is that a bad thing?

Because it’s equal to asking for extra dev work for a prank that only has 12(15?) hours left live.

It’s a stupid request.

Just wait it out. It isnt permanent. and it would take them that long to rebuild the UI for a feature that would be nonexistent by the time they got finished.

It’s not a stupid request. I’m sure nobody expects it to be done this year. If they do, you’re right, it’s unrealistic. But since ArenaNet has a history of this kind of prank, it’s likely they’ll do this type of thing again next year. What people want is some consideration in the future, which really isn’t too much to ask.

This forum is full childishness over the April Fools prank. Interestingly, the worst whiners are the ones bashing the people who don’t like the prank.

Even the dissenters that merely want an option to turn the prank effects off are being berated and insulted. Really? Are some people so desperate for conflict that they’ll attack someone over a perfectly reasonable request?

I’ve read the many threads (bring on the attacks over starting a new one), and there is certainly childish behavior on both side of the debate. But the most juvenile appear to be the ones saying, “Then don’t play” and “OMG it’s just a joke, get over it”.

If you don’t have a problem with the prank, great! Good for you. But why does that make so many people incapable of understanding that others do have a problem with it? Why is it hard to get behind the idea of a solution that makes everyone happy? Take a moment to actually think about that. A “disable” option would make -everyone- happy.

How is that a bad thing?
