I do agree that skilled players should be able to equip zerker gear and speed run a dungeon, but it’s gotten to the point where everyone is just a glass cannon min/max build who just stacks for every mob and most bosses and never takes any hits, i’ve actually been kicked numerous times for having a shout healing Guardian or a condition damage Warrior. Here’s my two cents
1. Remove Defiant, it makes control builds completely useless, instead, give enemies buffs when they get interrupted, so we can use the boon stealing skills many classes have but never use in pve.
2. Address stacking and other dungeon exploits, the reason people can get away with zerker builds is that everyone just stacks at a safe place and rolls their face on the keyboard until the enemies are dead, its not fun in the slightest and not challenging at all.
3. Lastly, give bosses some control abilities, it would stop the tank and spank tactics and encourage teamwork through spreading stability, interrupting attacks or spreading out. As it stands, the only tactics I’ve needed for most bosses is spam attacks, dodge aoe’s repeat.
Vertical Progression: Rebalance existing Runes, SIgils and equalize prices/availability on armor with more obscure stats. Most Runes and Sigils are completely unviable and it limits what kind of builds people can make. Adding skills and Traits over time is a great idea, and the healing skills for the most part have been a pretty enriching addition.
Horizontal: Have an armor locker for each individual character, so we still have to earn our armor sets, but have access to them after you go for a new one, Gem Store sets should be account bound in this locker, rather than soulbound, so we can justify spending the money, the ocker can become available once you hit level 80 . Also, acquiring minor effects you can apply to armor (glossyness, dullness, or any kind of unique texture) to make our own appearance unique form those who have the same set. This would also supplement the grind we have to do by having a "middle ground’ sort of reward for doing so.
As far as stat swapping goes, I recommend equalizing the price and ease of crafting of all kinds of stat spreads. It was disheartening finding out that Rabid equipment costs five times more than Assassins or Berserkers and I flat out couldn’t afford it. The current prices discourage build diversity and it bars me from enjoying certain classes because I cant gear them properly. Along with this, the ability to choose a Soulbound sets stats as you equip it would be nice. In it current state, I feel like its just a passive way to force us to buy transmutation stones and grind for yet another set of armor.
Long story short, let us choose our favored stats on a Soulbound set (dungeon and karma sets etc.) and have them stay that way. As far as crafting goes, equalize prices and ease of crafting on rarer stat spreads so we don’t have to shell out a massive amount of money on a new set. (Sentinels, Rabid etc.)
I feel like the late game has become the grind that I loathe about other mmos. I loved the consistent level ups and new gear that the early game offered, but once I hit 80, I hit a wall. After watching videos on getting a legendary, I instantly told myself I should never commit that much time to obtaining one, despite how cool they are. And once I got my exotic armor set, I didn’t touch that character for months. The challenge of character progression is absurd amounts of time doing mindless grinding, not enjoying the great dungeons or the massive world the game has to offer. When I see somebody with a Legendary, I don’t think how much of a traveled or skilled player they are, I see somebody who just grinded for weeks or months on end to get it. I feel like portions of the game are barred off to me since I can’t play the game as much due to other responsibilities in life. I really respect how competent gear is easy to get, but after you get that gear, its a grindstravaganza for everything else in the game, and that’s no fun. I bought this game on the premise that it doesn’t waste your time, and I feel like that isn’t the case when I try to obtain an ascended weapon or armor set.
In summary, Grinding has become the late games focal point, and there is no real challenge to obtaining Legendary and Ascended gear, only time commitment. As a result, players with moderately busy lives are mostly incapable of obtaining these items.
