Easiest build for PvP?

PU by far. Tankier builds are very much easier to get used to the game with, so condition builds are ideal.

Shatter is a better build in my opinion, but its much more difficult to play because of how much squisher you are.

Watch lots of video. WvWvW or Spvp, doesn’t matter. I can’t stress enough how important this is for the harder classes like Thief and Ele. Specifically, watch for skill combos, attunement priorities, and when to use important cooldowns.

This is what I run for D/D SPvP as a fairly new player and I have a fine time with it usually. Some games when I run into a very good thief or ranger I’ll be forced to just run from them, but almost any other matchup is possible.

If water attunement isn’t on cooldown and you aren’t full health, you’re doing it wrong. The heal from F2>2>5 with dodges as necessary (proccing EA for more heals) is quite huge, and it removes enough condis that you shouldn’t need to worry too much about them.

Focus on the capping, not the kills. If you wait around a corner where the guy can’t see you until he leaves, you cap the point faster than if you charge in immediately and fight him. And you live, so that’s good too.

The hardest part of Ele is remembering everything you have available to you. This is what’s keeping me from learning S/D and Staff, because the crowd control that lets them survive is just so hard to keep track off.

I’m running something similar in spvp right now (0/0/2/6/6) and I guess I’m wondering why Zephyr’s Boon is so popular. D/D only has two auras on fairly long cooldowns, and you can maintain almost permanent fury with just 6 Arcane and switching attunements often. The swiftness doesn’t seem to outweigh the extra condition clear from Cleansing Wave.

I don’t know, I’m fairly new to the game so maybe I’m just misunderstanding something.

Currently running 0/0/2/6/6 with Runes of Strength, Sigil of Battle and Energy, Valkyrie Amulet.

Have issues with good thieves (3/4 of them I have no issues) and with not being able to kill full bunker Guards. Don’t die to anything 1v1 that I don’t want to, with enough mobility to run when I need to and stick when I don’t.

I want to play pvp, some tips?

I’m only rank 10, on a level 50 Ele, who is my highest level, but at this point I don’t understand why everyone is so insistent that Ele is instalose.

I’ve only played hotjoins, so maybe in real queue people are better, but at this point, I’ve only run into a few things that I can’t take out with an 80% success rate. Bunker Engis, Bunker Guards, and a single Ranger using a long bow that was a really embarassing fight.

The engis CC me until they get help, the guards can knock me off point long enough to cap and then neither of us ever drops below 80% health unless we get careless, and there’s never an opportunity for a kill. The ranger just sat off point and shot at me and I got confused as to a response, poor play by me.

Theives are a joke, Mesmers aren’t bad, Warriors are hard but I can for sure survive until I get help, even if I can’t win. Honestly, does it just get harder or what?

Leveling?

D/D, points in arcane and water first for the defensive bonuses. Lightning flash, Armor of Earth, Signet of Air. Power focused glass cannon build.

Playing this I facerolled my way to my 40s. At 45, I’ve started dying occasionally to 2-3 mobs.

Essentially, you AoE burst with Fire 3 2 5, then Ring of Fire into a might combo from Earth (I use the Arcane blast finisher as my third utility, and the blast heal, as well as earth 4 and 5). Earth 2 ( Reflect projectiles, cripples, finishes off pretty much any melees standing near you after the burst), then into Air, RTL to any ranged mobs still on you, Air 3 and 5 cc them while you auto them down. Water as needed for healing/chill, rinse and repeat.

At 45 I’m almost constantly sitting on 12-15 Might stacks and I can one shot on level mobs with Fire Grab if they’re burning (implying a non-one shot but whatever).

Also been experimenting with other weapons. S/D feels significantly inferior, /F feels too defense heavy. Staff is fine, particularly for 1 enemy at a time since Fire 2 and autos will take anything down before you even need to move. Against larger groups staff’s damage is harder to land while you’re kiting, but if you can land everything its pretty insane.

What level are you at? Like I said, I’m only 45, if you’re higher than that you might be experiencing problems that I haven’t seen yet.

I’m leveling an Ele as well, and I personally prefer D/D or Staff over S/D. S/D’s damage outside of that one mentioned fire combo is unimpressive, and that combo has a longer cooldown than I like for leveling.

D/D you can use the standard spvp build just fine, x/x/x/30/30 with armor of earth, lightning flash, and a third optional utility (I use the arcane blast finisher for extra might stacks or Signet of Air).

Staff, I’ve just been using the same thing, switching out armor of earth for another offensive utility like Lightning Hammer or Signet of Air for perma speed.

Because of the heavily defensive trait build, everything else is really personal preference. However, in your situation, I might recommend a D/D Aurashare build, using the grand master water trait and all aura providing traits to be a huge support benefit as well as putting out decent damage.

I understand it was a wish list and I shot for the moon…18k health I think is reasonable considering the light armor and low toughness, but 15k is good too. Ask for more than you can get, right?

Why all the hate on stealth? I love the way stealth is done in this game…compared to WoW, you can’t be stealthed 100% of the time by just clicking one button. It takes a level of skill to use stealth effectively. The Mesmer has both stealth and shatters, why shouldn’t the ele have stealth and Attunement swaps?

Besides, you shouldn’t be able to see a lightning strike coming, so stealth in air Attunement would be kitten!

I don’t really consider Attunement changes a true weapon switch. Yes, your abilities change, but not as drastically as going from a Greatsword to a bow. Part of the fun of an ele is the Attunement switching…if not 3 secs, then 5secs, because you need to be switching in order to pull off the same things other classes do with less skills available.

I know I’m not as experienced in the ele as some, but I have played a lot of spvp with it, and kitten it, I work a LOT harder to achieve the same results I get from my easy mode Mesmer and guardian and especially the god mode warrior currently is. I am certainly not a troll, nor am I trying to be.

How about you think about thematic justifications for those changes… Since more than almost any other game, GW2 is consistent with its themes. Stealth is not something an Elementalist should have access to. Rock based immunity, Water based healing, Air based mobility, those all make sense.

An Elementalist having a massive base health pool doesn’t make sense either. Their power is in magic, not might or brute force.

The only thing that thematically makes sense would be reducing attunement cooldowns. And that would honestly break the game. Not only would certain air traits become stupidly overpowered, but being able to constantly have access to everything would eliminate meaningful choices from their playstyle and lean toward a much more faceroll playstyle of bounce through all the attunements, stack all the buffs and throw all the spells at the target until they die. While I personally would prefer that kind of flexibility, it would require a complete overhaul of the entire class. 8 seconds minimum, but I could definitely see 10 working.

These guys are calling you a troll because what you asked for would literally make Eles the only viable class. Even without any changes to other classes (even the healing sig nerf) no other class could compete with an ele. The current warrior would look like the current ele in comparison. It would be a joke. You’re just really bad at game design is what I’m trying to say.

All sigil recharges are seperated assuming the sigils are different types. You can’t stack two of the same sigils for double the benefit.
So no, two Sigils of Energy will be wasting a slot.

Elementalist has two less sigil sockets because they have twice as many weapon skills. More than a fair trade.

Great vid dude, I loved it. I wish d/d ele could pull this off in spvp! haha

Was just going to ask how one might manage something similar in SPvP. Currently leveling my Ele (first character, new to the game) and I intend to be doing it mostly through spvp after the patch. I’m assuming that just ripping off the runes and traits shown in the build won’t carry over well?

Dude that’s how MMOs works, they will always be imbalanced, if you seek balance play an fps/moba not a casuals oriented mmo like gw2.

Actually, let’s be realistic here. Balance has nothing to do with genre and more to do with iteration cycles.

Meaning WoW patching every couple of months will remain more balanced than GW2 at every 6-9 months. LoL and most mobas will destroy that with patches every month or so, and that has nothing to do with them being mobas.

Moba companies are just more comfortable releasing balance tuning patches without releasing new content at the same time. MMORPG companies push content because they think that’s what more players want. Probably rightly so. But its not a limit based on genre. Its the company’s policy that’s at fault.

Hi guys, new to the game pvp player, coming from a LoL background. I’ve really been enjoying sPvP on my elementalist and engineer, but I can’t find any information on how to level through it after the patch.

Was this ever discussed anywhere that I missed? Should I just go back to event farming or will this be implemented in some way? Thanks.

Anet fails to realize sigil change hurt engis

in Engineer

Pteor.6421

Most classes went from 5 Sigils to 4, losing their pocket stacks. 20% loss.

Ele/Engi went from 3 to 2. 33% loss.

Definitely hurt Ele/Engis more, no matter what you say about them being balanced around kits/attunements. What should happen to fix the problem is a better discussion, since it can’t be decided by simple facts.

Personally, I would argue that because Ele/Engis are designed to be balanced without the benefit of 4 sigils, they shouldn’t get any kind of bandage sigil fix to make up for this loss. Rather, they should get a damage buff across the board to their output that is equivalent to 70% efficiency of the two sigil slots. So approximately 350 (adjustable for balance) power worth of damage added into the base amount of each of their skills.

This means that these classes are stronger in situations where other classes can’t get full value out of their extra sigils (like chill preventing a weapon swap). It means that if standard classes are min/maxing properly, they’ll be stronger but require more preparation.

Or possibly removing any sigil that has an effect after you swap it out (or making their effects baseline to all professions). Since it feels mandatory to min/max, it doesn’t add a beneficial play pattern. Things like on-swap and on-hit have a mechanic that adds skill cap to the game without being absolutely necessary to track. Holding a spell for .3 seconds so your sigil is off cooldown to proc again is strategic, but doesn’t have such a large effect that it will become mandatory.

Just my personal opinion on the matter.

What build to trait into while leveling?

I’m currently in my 20s on my first playthrough as an Ele, and I’ve gotta say D/D or S/D definitely feel the best. Ride the Lightning and other mobility spells just feel great for dashing between mobs, and particularly with DD I’ve had no issues soloing, even a couple of champions.

Went into water first for the health and survivability, now going into Arcane.

You hit really kitten some crits, what kind of armor/trinkets did you use? or if you’d rather not tell, can this build be approximated in SPVP?

I’m interested in this too.

Also, trait wise, I’m guessing 0/30/10/0/30? Trying to learn how to pick out traits, seeing the Electric Discharge procs and the Evasive Arcana procs makes me guess that build.

Leveling Methods

As a new player to Guild Wars 2 coming from a long history of MMOs and more recently MOBAs, I want to get into the PvP and WvW aspects of the game. In WoW for instance, PvP was a viable leveling option, but it was extremely inefficient when compared to dungeon spamming.

The problem is that I can’t find solo documentation on leveling options. I understand that there is a group that runs from one event to the next that is the fastest leveling option. I understand WvW as a leveling option. Personal Story leveling is impossible, on the justification that you end up extremely underleveled for your next quest each time.

But I see that sPvP also adjusts you to level 80 and gives you all skill unlocks. Since this is one of the aspects that interests me most, I’m curious as to whether I can level entirely though it. If I can, how? Thanks!

I’ve played MMOs before but not for a couple years. For the last year and a half I’ve been playing MOBAs and needed a break from that style of PVP. Having loved original Guild Wars I decided to give GW2 a try.

So the point of this thread is to ask about Eles mainly in PvP and WvW, as well as leveling. Most of the information I can find on builds is from when Eles were getting nerfed every patch sometime around a year-year and a half ago. There’s current youtube videos available but those don’t come with the best discussion.

D/D Ele looks extraordinarily fun, but the only guide I can find is here. This is a glass cannon guide, but the only way I’ve seen D/D described was as a bunker which I understand is a tanky role to hold capture points. Is it viable to build D/D glass cannon or should I not bother?

What other Ele builds are strong in PvP and WvW? Judging by the current popular threads, they seem to be rather weak as a whole in everything but wvw zerg situations, but there are some posts claiming its just skill cap issues.

Thanks for the help!
