their intended function of spreading the playerbase out into various zones
You think this is the function of dailies?
OMG WOOHOO. THANK YOU ANET FOR FORCING ME TO GO TO THIS ZONE. JUST WHAT I’VE ALWAYS WANTED.
[/sarcasm]
Then don’t do the daily. No skin off my back.
You can’t be bothered for 10 minutes of your time, so don’t expect ANet to spend 1000s of man hours catering to your every whim at the expense of other players, princess.
If you’re going to make exaggerations, don’t expect anyone to take your post seriously.
Look princess, you clearly don’t understand what a dev team needs to do when developing a game. Updates to this game are not a simple process. It takes a lot of real people doing real work trying to make millions of players happy. The experience simply cannot be personally tailored to each and every princess in this game so that that princess will never have to do anything she finds boring. That, princess, would take quite literally 1000s of man hours.
Oddly enough I’ve worked on triple A titles and at present, am employed as a software developer. I know what this ‘real work’ consists of, because I live and breathe this industry everyday at work. Don’t try to lecture me on my own domain.
Secondly, your analogy is flawed as you seem to be under the impression these are my individualistic requirements. You’re halfway right! One half says that I, as a individual player of this game, should feel the game is fun. The other half, the point that I’m really getting at – is that a game should be generalized enough such that anyone can jump in and play as they like. My views are for diversity. I speak on behalf and from the point of view of the more casual gamers. In otherwords, when I use ‘I’ and ‘my views’, these are not the personal pronouns refering to the writer, but I as in the user in a ‘use case’. (Google if you don’t know what these are)
The whole model of GW2 was that it could kick the traditional MMO model that would require deep time commitment and investment before they could even do anything they’d like to do in the MMO. Which is why I feel that by making dailies more time consuming and RESTRICTIVE, it violates this vision.
If you define “grind” as “working for something”
Noone should have to grind for gear.
Anything that you have to work towards, say, The legendary weapons, are a grind in essence, but are cosmetic only – so they don’t actually violate this ideology.

If your going to make ridiculous demands of what is ultimately optional content, dont expect anyone, including ArenaNet, to take your posts seriously either.
Laurels = daily exclusive = exclusive gear
cool options bro.
Ridiculous demands? What I was requesting was already in place.
It is not a question if I can or cannot spend five minutes in Ascalon but if I WANT that.
I don’t need reasons to travel to other maps because wvw map is enough fun for me. But now with the new dailys I’m in a disadvantage in that kitten gear treadmill in the long run.does not matter if it takes 10 minutes to complete it if you travel around the world, those 10minutes would bore the hell out of me.
so that leaves me 2 options: ignore laurels and the gear treadmill or spend time doing stuff I hate.
great
Exactly. Before, you could just login, do all your dailies inside WvW. Now you have to step outside, do some mind numbing PvE, run fractals, grind 3 levels.
The whole selling point of GW2 was that anyone can just jump in and have fun, noone should be forced to grind 80 levels to PvP, so they made it so that ANYONE can partipicate. LIKEWISE, noone should be forced to do a ton of chore-like-dailies to get EXCLUSIVE GEAR.

This is absurd. You are absurd.
You complain about lack of choice. There are 9 different dailies to choose from.
Yes, about 3 I actually care about. The others I don’t even get involved in for day to day play.
And you’re completely missing a central goal of dailies which is to give you an incentive to visit content that you don’t usually visit.
There’s a reason I don’t visit them. If I wanted to visit content for the lols, I’d do it. If the central goal of dailies is to choke content down my throat, I’d load up another game and play what I want to.
The idea of dailies to me, as a veteran MMO gamer, is to enforce consistency. NOT persistency.
If you can’t spend 5 minutes in Ascalon or in Norn territory that’s your problem.
I

I
Shouldn’t
Have
To
Go
There.
Do I need to break it down even more for you to understand?
The vast majority of us like having a reason to go back to these zones and explore content that we haven’t seen in a while or might have missed when we were leveling.
No.

I like this system. Some activities just bugged me in the old system.
How is this possible? The old activities were a superset of the activities now. They’ve become more restricted. I suppose this post gives as much insight as the vagueness it indicates.
There are more options BUT they’re far more restrictive AND time-consuming.
1 – The ‘Kill 40x’ quests are ridiculous. Before you could kill whatever you want and play the game as you would like to play it. For me, I’d rack up these kills in the cursed shore where the loot and events are relevant to my level. But now, i’m forced to go to these zones to get 40-80 kills, all the time wondering, why am I sent here? Besides slogging it out for the daily quest, I have no real purpose here.
2 – 3x Skill Points – OK~ but this is still quite grindy, perhaps 1h30 of events to get this. This daily is ok for people still leveling but for casual 80 players, especially for those who have little time after coming home from work, are forced to do activities that give XP. Some activities in GW2 are more lucrative for XP than others, either way, this is time consuming.
3 – Daily Fractal – Wow, a forced dungeon. I don’t run this dungeon often, I don’t have the time. I actually join the dungeon my guildmates happen to be doing or, join a lower level dungeon with low level guild members. How about changing this to, do ANY DUNGEON OF YOUR CHOICE.
I know people are going to get all defensive here but the main reason why I’m playing this was because I was drawn by the notion that arenanet conveyed to me: to allow players to play the game as they want it.
At first I was like, oh cool, individualistic dailies. Maybe I can do dailies that I care about! But now it seems more like ‘here are some dailies that arenanet wants you to do in order to stimulate the economy, get more player activity in instance X, etc etc’
Don’t underestimate the size of your casual market, time-consuming dailies are the exact opposite of what we want. The casual market is bigger than ever at this point in time, like it or not. Now, get this: Dailies that prove to be a chore IS NOT a selling point.
The dailies must be generalized enough such that they are applicable to every player and are gradually completed minute by minute by doing the stuff they’re interested in. Now this would be a feature I would be thrilled to tell my colleagues and friends about.
Example:
- Kill Any 50 monsters of your choice
- Make 10 PvP kills in a map of your choice
- Do a dungeon of your choice
The old dailies were like this, there was freedom in what you can do. And the time spent, as you would normally play, would eventually complete it. Now it’s more like, I have to do X number of activities I don’t care about ON TOP of what I’d normally want to do. I really don’t have the time and guess what, dailies become a chore and get BORING.
I’m not whining about making it easier (not like dailies should be based on difficulty anyway), i’m asking for dailies to be more relevant to any player’s daily play.

“Yeah but Guild Wars lasted a lot of people 5+ years just on that. So it must have done something right.”
They had several expansions. This is the first release. Chill out.
I didn’t buy an incomplete game to buy 5 more expansions to cost me 300$+ just to have a real game.
This thread is one of the reason that I hate official forums at a start of a game. There are always more fanboys and trolls than real-players.
OP is %100 right. All real-players know this.
To all those giving examples from GW1:
- This is not GW1. this was not intended to be “only” for the people who had played GW1. So, stop with your GW1 analogies and examples. they make no sense.
- More than half of current GW2 accounts have never played nor heard -till this game- about GW1.
- GW1 is an obsolete game.
- We don’t want GW2 to be obsolete as well.
Gem Store
- Race change should be added.
- Appearance change should be added..
- Class change should be added but when you get a new class, your story quest should reset to beginning.
- We should be able to change Armor/Weapons that we bought from a vendor. Currently, if you mis-click and buy the wrong-weapon from a token-vendor, you can’t change it. Maybe if we get an item that lets us change the wrong-weapon to a change-weapon-item then we can correct the issue without ever needing to contact the support.
Karma & Gold
- The items that require Karma -while leveling- is overpriced. They currently cost for more than all your Karma that you farmed while your level and they are only “really” useful for 3-4 levels.
Trade
- We should be able to trade between players without mail and trading post. A basic trade option is needed.
- Trading Post tax is a very big money sink and overkill. %15 is really to high to make a profit from anything. It shouldn’t be more than %5 IMO.
Dungeon
- Each Dungeon has its own token. Because of this you need to farm each dungeon separately to get any item from them and since all stats are the same, the people only bother with 1 dungeon and don’t do the rest. IMO all tokens should be the same and same dungeon runs should get a real CD. Currently, the system feels like a generic korean mmo. (I have nothing against Koreans nor Korean mmo’s)
- Dungeon Group Searching Tool should be implemented.
- Some dungeons are faceroll and some of them are like D3’s nightmare mode. It should be re-balanced.
- Dungeon Bosses are generally easier to kill then the in-between mobs you kill while reaching to the boss. I remember getting wiped at least several times be veteran-zergs than on any boss. Either make the bosses harder or nerf the veteran-zergs.
- Drops in Dungeons are a joke. I have at least 70-80+ dungeon runs and saw only several greens and no gold nor any oranges. Blues are vendor materials.
MISC
- A real Combat Log should be added.
- Much more information base damage of condition damage and how it is increased, should be given.
- After level 50+, mobs seems to get over-HP. Even the easiest mobs takes “time” to kill. It should be re-adjusted.
- We should be able to inspect what other players are wearing. For instance, I have seen a good looking armor on some guy but couldn’t learn what it was because he was afk.
- Duels should be added.

GW2 is a good game. But IMO it needs some fixes (changes) and improvements. There are some standards in MMO industry. Some of them are missing here:
3W (WvWvW)
- There shouldn’t be armor-damage when getting killed in PVP in 3W.
- In 3W maps, we should be able to see full name of enemy players.
- Queue system for 3W should be fixed. People need to know what is their queue number and queue status. We shouldn’t be kicked out of the queue when getting in overflow map.
- We should be able to queue as a group for 3W. I had many nights, in which I was in a group with friends and we ended joining in totally alone and seperate.
- When your guild is “having and event” in 3W map (many people from your guild is in the same 3W map), then queue system should give you a special queue to encourage guild play and more quality organization in 3W.
- We should be able to see the current 3W maps’ status from 3W UI and also the queue status.
- Current 3W system should be fixed for night cappers or scratched all together.
- There should be a grace time, when you are droped from the game. If you get disconnected through no fault of your own, you end up in queue for no reason.
- Dead enemy players are currently the best source of intelligence. There should be a force-respawn mechanic.
sPvP
- We should get ladders and rated matchmaking.
- Weapon changing from inventory and trait swapping should not be allowed during sPvP play (rated).
- Team compositions shouldn’t be seen before match by the other side (rated).
- Observer mode can be added.
- More sPvP modes should be added rather than point-capture only.
UI
- Achievement window should have a frontpage which shows latest won achievements and about-to-be-won achievements.
- We need much more customization options for UI. I may need bigger boxes for skills but it doesn’t mean I need bigger fonts or vice versa.
- Camera angle is a big problem especially for Asura and Norn races. It’s because that one it the biggest and the other is tiniest race. Camera centers your character to the screen. We should be able to get the camera to not center our character. It should be able to look from a little bit more above for more panoramic view.
- Once I open all skills with a a weapon, I want an option to change the position of a weapon skills. I prefer -for some weapons- to have some skills in other positions for easy use.
- Tipboxes that open up when you hover your mouse over a skill should show whether the skill has casting time or whether it’s a channeling skill and how much animation time the skill requires.
- We need an extra toolbar to put food and other stuff to easy use.
Armor & Weapons
- There should be a special line added to the tipbox for a armor/weapon of which the appearance has been changed which shows into which armor/weapon the appearance was changed to.
- When your armor/weapons gets damaged your stats changed immediately. Before an armor is completely broken there shouldn’t be a stat change. It’s not fun to look for repair each time you die.
Craft
- The current status of general crafting & gathering’s generic korean mmo style should be changed. The mid-crafts are worthless. They have same stats with world drops and cost more to craft.
- All craft requirements for below 400 recipes should require less items.
- Cost of bag-crafts should be significantly decreased. Currently 20-slot-bags cost more than 2 orange armor/weapons.
Target
- We need to able to see current and total HP and HP percentage of our target.
- -At least in PVE- we should be able to see what our target is casting.

The problem is big black hole for WvWvW community. It’s literally impossible to counter this apart from getting big US guilds playing in some EU servers. We can defeat the french in peak times. But it’s impossible to fight against people in other timezones.
Nevertheless, there are easy solutions to this problem.
1) Decrease the amount gained by any faction during after-midnight hours. Even if they end up owning all forts and stuff, the system shouldn’t be awarding them with significant gain.
2) Increase the amount gained by any dominated faction. So if you wake up with no forts and start gaining some, you will be getting maybe double or triple award.
3) If your server is losing by far, the game should let you get in with more players. For instance, I’m at Gandara and I always have to wait at least 2-3h at peak times. Even if the server is losing, there is nothing I can do, because the game doesn’t let me in. This can be fixed.
