Jon “The Mack” Sharp,
Thank you for Pax. Thank you for your work, time, dedication. You may not realize it; or maybe you have, but this post was insight as to what is going on inside that shiny noggin’ of yours.
This type of thing is what the community needs. It’s the same as any relationship, or friendship you will ever encounter. YOU; as devs, form a relationship with us. How you go about it will simply determine the outcome. When players have questions, concerns, or comments, they just want to be heard. Or, have the illusion that they are being heard. Sometimes we need reinforcement, mentoring, or talking to. But, we never want to be ignored. You talked about “finding the right spot,” and I believe that is a troublesome area with ArenaNet. While you guys show support in streams, at tournies, and with SOTGs… Sometimes we need more than that. General PR responses don’t always get the job done, and they get stale.
We understand you can’t speak with us all the time, nor should you ever be expected to. I just ask that you “find the right spot” when communicating with us. Deep down, I always knew you were working on the current issues with the game. But, sometimes it’s nice to have a status report, which has always been lacking.
Thank you again, for all your committment and dedication to us. For those that have quit, they’ll be back. ^.^

This is not a critique but just my observation from doing arenas. I feel no map presence with eles. If an ele is on my team, I can’t rely on them to finish downed people like before, or stick on targets, or offer me support, because they are so busy trying to keep themselves alive all the time now. I always see eles struggling against the onslaught of conditions put out by necros and rangers that I feel like they aren’t doing much for me when they’re on my team.
If I see an ele on the enemy team, I know that I can pressure the ele easily now, so I always focus the ele and stick on him until he’s forced to leave the team fight. It has become a routine now. Ele in sight? Mark him. Stick on him until he’s dead – rest of the enemy team crumbles. These are just my personal observations from arenas so far.
@Zone
I definitely agree with you. I think this thread is more about how the OP enjoys playing ele, and we’re just dishing out ideas to him. Truly, anything an ele can do right now can be done better by any other class. I absolutely agree with the comment you made about putting pressure on an ele. I do find myself having to reset fight alot and pole hump like this is WoW arena. I haven’t had too many issues with stomping, due to the 2 defensives, but rezzing is a whole different beast. No updraft or mist, I can’t even attempt rezzing.

I think my W/L against average rangers now is about 50/50.
AMAZING. I can’t believe it at all…
btw I’m almost giving up to play Elementalist on solo que lol
Amyyyyzz! <3
Btw, that fight consists of me reseting and having full cd’s. lol

@Katniss
I’ve been dueling random spirit rangers. The biggest tip i can tell you, is if you are absolutely forced to fight a spirit ranger, you need to play at max range and focus the sun spirit down.
If you eat alot of damage before you get it down then reset fight a bit and come back in. I think my W/L against average rangers now is about 50/50.
I honestly try to avoid rangers like the plague.

Yah, i used ele surge a crap ton back in the day. I was a huge advocate of it. But, the glory of fresh air is that you aren’t really pigeon-holed into opening with that earth combo. I usually push out some damage on them then do it mid fight, or when ive already forced a few dodge rolls out. I guess it’s kinda the same mechanic as the old shatter mesmer build. Once you play it more and more you begin to land it more reptitively.

It’s more time-consuming uploading to youtube. I think he just wanted to get it up for you all right away.

I can’t totally agree with the RTL thing. I remember being able to get out of EVERY fight and not die because of the cd, and length of the old RTL. I think the real problem is condi removal for us.
Eles do have access to condi removal, unlike mesmers. But, we have to sacrifice sooo much to pick up the condi removal. We begin to suffer in other areas such as sustained damage, and spike damage. I won’t even bring up condi damage, because that is a massive joke for eles.

Earth gib combo:
-Bring up your rock barrier (Earth 2)
-Begin casting Earth 2 at your target + begin earthquake
-While you’re in mid animation of earthquake, use port cantrip on top of the target your focusing on.
-Swap to air attunement and press 2
All the damage adds up and it puts a ton of pressure on targets. What I personally like to do is do that combo, and then updraft into a Dragons Tooth. But if it’s a fresh fight, you can generally expect them to have a stun break up.
Just remember to play right next to your target when you use arcane shield, it will add some pretty nice additional damage to the target.
As ridiculous as this might sound, imagine as if you were a boxer. Float in and do damage, then float out and range your target. And neeeeever play node unless you have to! It’s a super fun build, imo. And it’ll take some getting used to, but once you get it down you will definitely trash teams if they don’t focus you.
Oh and last tip, don’t be afraid to exit a fight altogether if you being to get focused. You have 2-3 defensives that will allow you to get out. You can easily get right back in the fight after healing up a tad bit.
Glad you’re enjoying it!

That is a re-post I did, mainly too lazy to type it again. So if some stuff doesnt play in context, you’ll understand.
We fill one roll, defensive roamer. Just roam between the points you have, or are attacking. Try to place yourself so you’re not primary focus and/or first person to initiate a fight (although that always isn’t possible).
Running zerker truly keeps you on your toes, but it’s super rewarding to me. And if you don’t feel like running Lyssa, then don’t. I just like it for an “oh-kitten” button, I understand it’s on a 120s cd. IDGAF.

-Fresh-air build:
30 Air: VI, X, XII
10 Water: V
30 Arcana: VI, V, XI
-Amulet: Berserker
-Superior Force on scepter, Superior Energy on dagger
-Utilities: Sig heal, Arcane Shield, Mist Form, Port cantrip, Glyph of Ele
-And the SUPER secret: Runes of Lyssa.
Playstyle:
-One role to fill: Defensively roam between the nodes that you do have, or the nodes your TEAM is engaging.
-Do not attempt to 1v1 spirits, you will lose.
-When using your earth gib combo on a necro, remember to arcane shield when you knock him down to prevent his fear.
-Lyssa runes are an “OH SNAP” button, I recommend baiting Signet of Spite out of necros with it.
-You have a very aggressive appearance in team fights due to the two stun breaks and defensive utilities. This build isn’t meant to global people, but put tons of pressure on the team.
-Remember to pre-cast Air 1 when swapping attunements. It will automatically activate fresh-air due to the fury + high crit chance the build already has.
-If you can’t stand berserkers, or you just don’t want to run it, then use valks w/ zerker ammy.
Notes: I would say I am a very seasoned ele. This build MAY NOT work for you, and it isn’t some godly build that defeats everything. Your biggest fear is d/p thieves, but they are beatable. S/D thieves are extremely easy to kill with this build, and it is very forgiving. Just simply run from spirit rangers, simple as that. NO, I do not have a video for it, and NO I will not make one. I’m not sharing this because I feel the need to be some ele superhero. I’m sharing this because I love the class, and I want to fill people in on what I’m using that works for me.
The end.

Is it just me, or does nobody else seem to pick up on the fact that EU has some ridiculously, unwarranted, over-aggressive players?
EU is the last thing on our minds on NA. We don’t care about this “ZOMG EU IZ DA BEZT” nonsense. It is always some random from EU that gets all hyphy on the forums and starts drama.
Imo, sounds like the OP needs to head to his local GNC and pick up some testo pills. The estrogen levels are high in this one.
Just congratulate CC for playing better than SYNC did, and move on.

Yah, I’m not quite sure that most mesmers are complaining about their mobility compared to their viability in the current meta.
Blink, portal, focus. All viable solutions, imo.

I’m quite sure solo q is about personal performance. If you don’t like it, don’t play it. Seems like the easiest solution, imo.

This entire thread is literally a double-edged sword. From experience, when Devs are b@lls deep with the community, and not getting what they want, all you hear is “get back to the drawing board and actually work!”
But, when the Devs are working their kitten of, and not as open with the community, we QQ and ask for more communication.
It has been openly said; MULTIPLE TIMES, that after Pax has been settled you WILL see balance patches.
“We don’t believe in changing too much prior to a major tourny we’re invested in.” -Peters
Now, so you know, the Devs are always fishing through streams and forums looking for feedback. As a matter of fact, think about every class/spec we’ve considered OP since launch. They have been fixed/changed/balanced to meet the communities requests. It will be NO different from the current meta as well.
Slack is needed, QQ is not.
1 = you don’t know how hard they work…
2 = "all you hear is “get back to the drawing board and actually work!” " — So because some players say that, that is what “the community” thinks?
3 = no QQ"er yet. Your first one in the thread. :/
4 = “We don’t believe in changing too much prior to a major tourny we’re invested in.” -Peters -- they broke that statement
5 = i’m sure they look at the forums, but yet have to see something of it being used
Fortunately, I do know how hard they work. I have a couple friends who have recently been employed by ANET, and talking to them alone has filled me in on that.
They haven’t broken the statement about balance patches prior to the tourny? I’m really not quite sure where you’re getting your info. This is actually why this thread is coming up in the first place, lol.
BTW, “Class Balance” team does talk with the players. I’m not sure if you’re aware, but they do include themselves in SOTG’s. Actually, that is exactly what SOTGs are meant for.

@ Cmc
Personally, my only concern is that D/D forces you to play into the cleave. For example, spirit rangers have a heavy amount of burst once the active is pressed. Once you cleave those spirits down (and you will with D/D) it becomes another liability that you will be within range of the spirit burst again. It’s not as simple as saying “dodge roll after burning speed” because you still have to final out with the animation, essentially forcing you to eat the damage. Any spirit ranger who has time behind the class understands that an ele using burning speed is easy access for burst. So, essentially if he uses his actives, then you kill those spirits, it will act as a double proc.
As for S/D thieves, the only true defense you have against them is shocking aura. Again, a seasoned thief knows that when you pop shocking, it’s time for him to reset and wait it out. The boons you have are now literally being granted to that thief for free. He will simply steal all the boons you got and keep up tons of pressure on you. You have approx 1/4 second after Flanking Strike to finish it’s animation to attack that thief. And, from my experience with D/D you can’t put out enough pressure to scare that thief off. Unless you run around attempting to Lightning Whip him, your only opportunity is to attempt to kite.
And finally, necros… It seems that you have attempted to create a build that essentially harasses and counters necros, and D/D is the perfect weapon set for that task. BUT, here is the problem… Necros crumble from continuous pressure, and as a matter of fact, the playstyle of a necro is to kite, and find openings. The huge issue I see with the build is Ether Renewal. While it is a fantastic heal, the channel and length of it ends up turning your pressure around on you. It gives necros free openings because of the lack of dodging, or mitigating you can actively do. Instead, it forces you to run around kitten ing and asking to be eaten alive. Along with that, Ether Renewals biggest counter is power damage. If you start running against any player with spike, it becomes an issue.
D/D is fun, it truly is. I played it for MONTHS and I do believe I contributed to it becoming popular. But as for now, you aren’t capable of running it. In a condi cleave meta, where ele’s are being eaten alive, you begin to suffer from being within that cleave. Running Soldiers gives you some room for error, but eles primarily benefit from TOUGHNESS because of the heals we have at our disposal. Counting on Ether Renewal to get the job done is too much of a liability.
Unfortunately, ele’s are pigeon-holed into running spike builds that focus on putting out so much pressure, that the other player can’t do anything at all. We fill one role, defensive roamer. And to be quite frank, other classes fill that role better as of right now. If you spec condi clear, you begin to lose too much damage sadly.
Imo, just man-mode on Berserker Ammy for awhile. If you can start learning to survive, as well as put damage out, you start to learn how to play ele at the next level. Your personal situational awareness, map awareness, team fight presence, and general mechanics jump up ten fold.
This wasn’t meant to take a dump on your build, more-so about pointing out some apparent flaws.

I main Ele, and always will. Unfortunately, I decided to see what all the hype is about today by playing Spirits. Well, I literally carried my personal rating from 196, to 60-70ish today. I’m pretty sure I went 20-4 or 19-4 today, which is unreal.
I consider myself an extremely seasoned Ele, and I know the ins and the outs of the class, yet somehow somebody who has NO idea what is going on can faceroll and kill me. No matter how hard I outplay the Spirit Ranger, it is just too forgiving.
-Passively providing burning, swiftness, and protection to the entire team
-AOE Rez
-AOE Condi clearing, regen granting, blastable heal.
-kittened amounts of condi burts
-Massive amounts of sustain^ THAT should never happen to any one class. It’s disappointing how broken Spirits currently are.
For you people that want to be pro in this game multiclassing is very important.
But honestly what will you get for playing sp ranger? Yeah your rating will increase and you ll have an easier and less frustrating time than playing with your ele.
But when this kitten eventually gets the nerf it deserves you ll just have wasted hours upon hours of your life playing something that did very little to increase your mechanical skill in the game. I dont know..if i cared a bit i would roll with engi or even necro in this meta.Necro has room of getting better compared to ranger imo.
S/d thief seem to have a good skill ceiling too although its cheesy as hell
“For you people that want to be pro.” Jajaja.
I’ve sat here and considered a way to word this without sounding like a d*#k….
I’ve been pretty successful with my “GW2 career” and it isn’t a matter of if I want to be “pro” or not. I played for a competitive team, I was in the SOTG (thanks Grouch), and I streamed non-stop for 3 months straight. Through it all, I’ve determined that this game just simply comes down to having fun. Our team was a success, but when it started not being fun anymore it just became too much of a stressor.
It isn’t about wasting time, just doing what you enjoy. So I personally no longer give the player ISH about playing the OP spec, I just credit the overdue balance patch.

Appreciate it, brother! I’ve been randomly testing builds for the past couple weeks, and this is just the most fun for me. I know ele glyph seems like its on a long CD, but it always seem to work out where it comes up in huge teamfights or when I need it the most!

While I do agree Elementalists are bottom tier right now…. They are still rewarding AF to play. I agree with some of the information that is being said within this thread, but these are some of my current opinions:
-You legitimately have to work 10x harder for a kill, when in comparison to other classes. But, the “outplay” potential still exists within the class.
-Unfortunately, I fear that with the supposed incoming nerfs to spirit rangers, and necros, it will place ele’s back at the top of the food chain. Already (with the specific spec I run) I give necros a hard time. If they mess up in any way, they lose.
-With that being said I do fear a nerf incoming to the s/d weapon set. The damage spike is too high, and isn’t foreshadowed at all. Essentially you have 3/4 sec to dodge about half of the burst incoming from s/d, and even then you still eat huge damage spikes. I am going to go out on a limb here and say that you WILL see more nerfs incoming to eles, but hopefully, you will see buffs in other areas as well.
-As of right now, we (eles) only fill one role within the competitive scene. Defensively roaming. I would like to help make other people aware that prior to this meta, we came from a spot that let us fill any role we desired. We aren’t the masters of the arena anymore, and we have to be aware of that.

Hello, there.
My primary/main account was permanently banned about two days ago. When I try to log into GW2 client, it tells me “You have been permanently banned for macroing, botting, or using other similar services.”
The problem is that I haven’t used any of those services so I’m not quite sure where this even came from. All I do on that account is Spvp, and I haven’t done much of that lately either. So in all honesty, I don’t have any need to use any of those programs.
When I found out I was permanently banned, I had never received an e-mail nor notification concerning the matter. So, if you could please help me out with this, it would be much appreciated.
The account name associated with my other account is: DevilsGlare.7658
Being that this is another account I’m on, and you can’t verify if I’m truly that person. You can always email me with the email address associated to that account, I monitor it every day.
Thank you, Vain.
