The exe file on my desktop that i didnt delete (the one that couldnt locate the original file because that was the shortcut) i took it and moved it to the program file (x86). Hopefully this will solve it afterwards. Yeah the exe must be on the computer somewhere but i just cant seem to locate it. and dont know how to. yess i do need to learn more basic windows.
anyways Thank you for your help. and i will check out the anti virus you suggested, yeah baidu , i dont even know how i ended up with it…
Ok, so there is a gw2 folder in C:\program files (x86) \guildwars 2 and there is a gw2.dat file and bin folder, crash.dmp, gw2.tmp. should i remove those to a new folder under c>game>gw2? currently i just moved the gw2.dat and im downloading the game again. and after it finished downlaoding look for the gw2.exe and remove it to the new folder you told me to?
only thing im confused now is if the game after its downloaded and its not in temp where else do i look for it because it doesnt give me an option to save as it. it just downloads automatically. (i have a cd of the game)
Then just use the GW2.exe there and create a shortcut to it there.
The dat file is most of download, so no need to redownload it.The exe always just downloads everything to the directory where it is located.
So, i dont know where to locate the exe file, gw2.dat is here i can find it but the exe is the one missing. so thats why im waiting to download the whole game again and look for the exe file hopefully its still in temp>download folder. if its not than im screwed again haha.
No leave it there I’m thinking for some reason you are just losing the desktop icon not the whole game, not sore why this is happening to you, but till you get it sorted out just use the gw2.exe to start the game in that folder. What Antivirus are you using maybe your AV is thinking the game is a threat and Quarantining the game. Some have had a lot of issues with Norton’s and GuildWars2.
Ok. i will leave the gw2.dat in the program file (x86)>gw2 folder. i have Baidu antivirus, but more or less i dont have proper antivvirus on this computer, (i should but never got around to getting it) it could be that the stupid baidu is deleting or quarantine it like you said. makes sense instead it just dissapearing. yeah its the whole gw2.exe file that dissapears.

No need, you can use that folder. Just make sure that the gw2.exe file is located in the same folder – C:\program files (x86) \guildwars 2
Also, you really should check where you download stuff to. Best it to set your browser to ask each time imho, then you have to select a location every time you download something.
Ok, i will keep using the program file (x86) >gw2 as the folder but how can i check where it iinstalls anything i downlaod? how can i set my browser to ask each time i download? so i can set the location. its been doing it automatically and i have no clue where find the commands to do what you just said.

when i install the game it doenst let me choose a place to install it.. do i have to take each file manually and put it into a folder? which files do i know belong to the gw2 game? thanks for replying
but you get to choose where to download installer (unless your browser is configured to save stuff somewhere by default without asking you)
and then installer downloads all gamefiles to same directory
as for window temp dir… it shouldn’t have stuff dissapearing, unless you ran disk cleanup or some other software that removes temporary files
P.S. if you don’t know where installer is downloaded, you can find it through your browsers download window, by rightclicking and choosing to open containing folder – afaik should work for any modern browser
yes i think its downloading without permission and puts my downloads somewhere i dont know where, when i found it on temp it was a fluke because i openeed each and every file i could click on my computer and found it by accident. and you’re probably right that a software is probably cleaning out my temp without permission. all very frustrating cause im no wiz on the comp.
About your advice about if i dont know where the installer is downloading files, i didnt really understand it. (browser download window<—- what is this? is it the download folder from documents?)

Yes sir i do know and i have posted there and if you read i did apologize for posting here but people asnwer faster in this forum and this will be the 4th time i download the game and it takes around 8 hours each time and its frustrating and its nice if i can get more info and help and suggestions which ever forum it comes from.

(sorry, i know its the wrong forum but people reply faster here than on the technical one and last time i found a solution from you guys here)
This is the third time this has happened to me. the first time i downloaded the game, played, and when i shut down to restart the game i cant find the game’s gw2.exe to start it (shortcut and real file) and had to download all over again. (happened 3 times already) (by the way, im not new gamer, but returning player, didnt play for a year and my computer was bought especially for gw2 so it hasnt been started for a year as well, not like that helps solving this just wanted to state it)
After the third time it happened and i posted (wrong forum but people was helpful) and i found it here C:\Users\ADMIN\AppData\Local\Temp\GW2.exe
It worked fine, i made a shortcut of the gw2.exe to my desktop and was great for about 2 weeks now.
But then….
Today i was lagging a bit (wvw) so i restarted my computer and its gone?!!! wtf hahahaha @^#%&^$
It says the “the item gw2.exe that this shortcut refers to has been changed or moved, so this shortcut will no longer work properly, do you want to delete this shortcut” hell no i havent deleted it and i have no idea where it went. im no expert in computers windows or mac, but this is messed up. comp is going coup de ta on my kitten again.
please help for a solution, im so tired of downloading the game over and over again just to play probably already 44 hours worth of times i downloaded the game….
by the way…
before i restarted, the computer asked for an update, not sure what it was, maybe something from microsoft windows… ( i think i have a fake miscrosoft windows if this helps solve the problem)

i found my temp file (users>admin>appdata>local>temp) and it has gw2 in it with a bunch of files (not in a folder just all over the place). i check its properties and its an exe. fingers crossed im going to log out of the game and try log back in using the file in the temp.
the only gw2 files i found is in computer>program files x86>guild wars 2 but its only gw2.dat, i cant find anywhere on the computer gw2.exe.
how i play the game is, i put the cd in, it downloads, second cd in and when it finihsed (3-4 hours later) i log in the game. i havent logged out the game the whole day today, because if i do its gone. nowhere to be found lol.
maybe i need to start the downloading process again from the beginning.
when i started the download i got 2 options, 1. start downloading using run gw2setup.exe or 2. open folder to view files.
maybe i do the second option without running it on automatic.
its hidden somewhere in the comp but i dont know where.
in program files x86 there is only bin, crash, gw2.dat and i dont think thats the files that is downloaded into the comp from the cd.
i found GW2.dat, how can i convert that to shortcut link to start the game?
hi. i downloaded the game client from my cd again (i was playing last year). somehow the game dissapeared from my computer. The game runs but when i close the game i have to download the whole game again! this happened twice already and i cant find where the game is saved on my computer and the shortcut for the game client (so i can click on it and play gw2 shortcut for desktop). please help its killing me to download the game over and over again just to play.
is it because when i put the cd in the computer and it ask me to choose to either open it by folder or setup from the cd. i choose setup form the cd..
just sucks i already un installed the game hahaha, now the waiting process of installing XD

1. automatic detect settings is CHECK (so maybe uncheck it)
or
2.use automatic configuration script is CHECK (look at the address —- mine was like (x89) wisen wizard, and i googled it (wisen wizard) and it was like adware malware of some sort so i uninstalled it and kept all the boxes un check
or
3. proxy is on.
i keept all those boxes UN CHECK , then ok.
By the way, i un installed the game earlier on because was trying to see if it’ll work (which didnt). and i re installed it again and it works now. hope that makes sense

If you are having this issue and crashing after the update we recommend you try the following troubleshooting steps to try to resolve the issue.
First, try disabling any antivirus you have on your system. Sometimes after programs/games are updated, the antivirus program will see them as a threat due to the new files added to the program/game which can cause issues.
If this does not resolve the issue and allow you to download/launch the client you can try moving the game out of the program files folder. If you are not sure how to do this please follow the instructions below.
1. Navigate to your Guild Wars 2 folder, which by default should be C:\Program Files(x86)\Guild Wars 2.
2. Move this folder to a new location like C:\Games\Guild Wars 2. The location doesn’t matter specifically, as long as it’s outside of Program Files and Program Files(x86).
3. Navigate to this new location and “Right-click” on “GW2.exe” selecting “Create Shortcut.”
4. Rename this shortcut to “Guild Wars 2 Admin Mode.”
5. “Right-click” on “Guild Wars 2 Admin Mode” and select “Properties.”
6. Click the “Compatibility” tab.
7. Checkmark “Run this program as an Administrator.”

i did this all but nothing works… i also now have un installed the game and is tryuign to re install it to get the same message coherent UI …
