The funny thing is that while the design goal for GW2 was to make PvP better by making it more “accessible”, the whole thing ended up being much more bloated and confusing to grasp than the original game.
Guild Wars 2 hides most of its mechanics behind visual clutter and layers of random numbers. Incoherent and confusing mechanics (damage numbers, health pools, armor values, stat points and what they do, skill descriptions, upgrades etc.) plus hardly readable combat (lack of clear visual and acoustic spell cues, RNG, traits, animations (lolasura), spell effects, targeting, no enemy skill bar, lack of a “what’s hitting me” display… Let’s not go further.
On top of that, conquest is just not deep and engaging enough to stand as the only “competitive” PvP mode. (Yet?)
This makes for an overall much more shallow experience.
TL;DR
The only thing this has in common with Guild Wars is the lore. Sorry.
My thoughts exactly. It’s funny that by trying to create something that casuals could grasp easily they created a confusing and complicated mess…
Well, this isn’t very relevant, but seeing the “rank 10+ req”, “rank 20+ req” ect. in my opinion is really silly. How do you expect me to prove I’m that rank? The only way I can think of is with finishers, but expecting people to save finishers specifically for that is absolutely stupid.
You can always turn titles on – although it doesn’t mean you can play the particular character you happen to on. =p
Very annoying sounds before match starts and 5 Fixes to make Spvp more enjoyable

Yeah, I’d like to look at the stats but I find it hard to let some idiot and his buddies beat on me. I know it doesn’ t matter at that point – but it’s annoying as hell.
Maps are too small for 8v8 – it just encourages zerging. Although some people seem to enjoy that style of play; it gets old fast. The 5v5 format should be the standard.
Yeah, it’s a bit funny when I try new classes out. Enter a match with a high rank but no real ability to play the toon I’m on. Get owned pretty hard.
Had a match yesterday where some thief kept roflstomping my new mesmer. Danced on my corpse, lol’d and made ankitten of himself.
Got back into a game on my main “thief” and guess who I found? It wasn’t him doing the dancing this time. =p
Ranks should not be persistent acrosss all characters. I know for a fact that I’m only competent on two of the ones I play – and suck big hairy ones on all the others.
Like someone mentioned up top – if you drop a shadow refuge right before you die you can remain stealthed long enough to bandage yourself – as long as the ball of the zerg isn’t fighting right on top of you. =p
I don’t mind that folks can be revived… they can be “battle rezzed” in other games too. But it’s a bit too easy for some classes to manage this. I also feel that once down you shouldn’t have any abilities available. You should need to wait and depend on your team fully to get you back up.
I can’t count how many 1v2 (even 3’s) I’ve “won” just to be downed by “dirt” throwing dead people. I can finish them if SR is up, but I often have to use that to win the fights anyhow – so it’s not an option and I usually just end up having to beat a hasty retreat from the dirt throwers. =p
