It’s like their priorities focus around what’s profitable or not. This is how I imagine their meetings went:

Can we make money by giving players more dungeons? No? Let’s make them redundant and soak up all the gold that’s floating around from running said dungeons, that way they will have to resort to purchasing gems if they ever want to buy any of these fancy skins we’re pumping out on our store, muahahaha.

Better yet, let’s remove any future means of acquiring cool skins by actually playing the game itself and have them resort to purchasing our gem store skins, I mean if we give them legendary skins why would they want to buy our rehashed gem store weapons? So let’s remove that off the to-do list and proceed with what we decided in 2010 something something about a living breathing world, okay wait that didn’t make sense.

Long story short team we need to capitalize on all those losers that bought into our false promises and empty bottles and really go for their wallets, we did it once we can do it again I mean some of these losers paid a $100 for the expansion dev team all laugh, some who didn’t find it amusing handed in their resignation letters

The expansion move gave us a huge Christmas bonus so we’re going to rinse and repeat this model and we all get paid handsomely and won’t have to pour hearts into this game anymore we can kitten for months on end and spend our not so hard earned money. I said three weeks ago I’d focus on sustainability and quality. I want to reiterate the part about sustainability. Be angry about legendary weapons, sure, but how about the recent drought of content? That kind of thing happens when we spread ourselves too thin, and when we let the content development pipeline empty out so we can fight fires. What I think we actually owe you is sustainable, predictable, high-quality content. I’m making a decision that’s painful in the short-term so we can position ourselves to deliver that.

Consider this… HoT currently has: 3 new maps (which are still buggy looking at DS) which are grindy as hell, Elite Specs which are heavy powercreep (pay to win in PvP…), a Story which is short but at least good (if you ignore the myriad of bugs f.e. in the Mordi battle), Guild halls, 2 Raids with 5 1/2 bosses, a new PvP map (which is quite unbalanced) and now only 4 legy weaps (3/4 being rarely used thanks to being underpowered or buggy)… That’s it?

I previously addressed the “half an expansion” thing, and I can point you to pages like this one and this one (https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Guild_Wars_2:_Heart_of_Thorns), but that doesn’t matter because it’s just arguing. My job is to entertain you, not to argue with you.

I strongly believe that we will in fact entertain you. We’re a team of people who love the game that you love, and are working on things we’re confident you’ll love. But I’m not here to convince you of that, and I wouldn’t expect you to take my word for it. You can make that judgment in April, and each subsequent time we ship. I will work to make you happy, and I’ll do it by making you happy with what we ship, not with what we promise to ship.

It’s time for some serious damage control. You need to show your player base that we are valued and important to you and not just the money. Businesses have costs and we all have to make do with the funding we have but it’s very clear that you guys do have the resources but are allocating them in the wrong places and doing so inefficiently. Mo you’re the new face of Anet and you’ve inherited a crap ton of broken things but instead of instilling confidence you’re essentially telling us you’re not the right man for the job. I and all these others may be ultimately inconsequential to you but there’s a lot of things that look shady here with your commendably transparent announcement. Talk about trade-offs then maybe move over some resources from the gem store weapons to your legendary weapon sector (which obviously doesn’t exist in this moment in time). You could have even gone as far getting some feedback from the community so we could tell you what we want to see moving forward before making this decision. Get us involved we are the heart of what makes the game what it is, without us you don’t have a game, you have barren lands you have, for want of a better word…nothing.

Some suggestions for damage control:

Scrap the journey/collection part and revert back to giving us the legendary skins how we originally acquired them on release. Skins aren’t hard to make as is made very clear with your gemstone weapon onslaught.

Buff dungeon rewards so they’re not left barren and unused.

Improve fractals, introduce the leaderboards, improve the drops.

PvP can’t afford to have a meta shift every so often it needs to be balanced and stable all classes need to be viable and left up to player skill to dictate the flow of a game.
There are some ridiculous cash prizes up for grabs in the ESL but how many actually tune in to watch them?

If you go back to release a lot of the legendary skins were not as cool as the greatswords but the team eventually went back and fine tuned them/made them flashier. Just deliver the skins, any skin and you can fine tune them after they don’t have to be amazing just deliver something.

We want the game to succeed we aren’t brainless zombies that don’t know what we’re talking about so probably best to not treat us as such.

Sad thing is I wholeheartedly defend this game and am the first to jump at anyone who tries to say it’s bad or dying, as a long time fan I guess all I can say of significance is get your kitten together and make this game be what it is destined to be, I.e. awesome.

I’m just laughing at all the rage, but it’s actually warranted Anet. Diversify each classes playing style AND make them viable/fun. Why’s that so hard to get? Or is it because if you did listen to what people are saying there would be even more balancing you’ll have to do so you decide to encourage players to play a certain way so there are fewer options to consider and rework (I.e. less work for you guys?) There are some loyal as kitten people playing your game and it’s been three years but it seems like you’re going backwards in some places. All I read in this proposed update was “we’re going to take away how movement skills are affected by boons” as if the game isn’t slow enough. Signet of inspiration STILL doesn’t give what all other classes seem to have, a passive movement speed enhancement. The withdraw skill for thief has an increased cooldown but we’re supposed to be happy about a 10% increase in health gained from it? Who compiled all these list of nerfs? Why are you guys draining the life and joy out of the game, are you guys Necromancers IRL?

(in all honesty I stopped taking this game seriously a long time ago, I just wanted to jump on the bandwagon. Hoping HoT and class specializations changes all that though, one can dream right?)

One of DnT’s members were in our ts and had informed us that the other team wiped, and it being the 3rd game of the round, we weren’t obliged to finish the path to secure our win, hence why we started goofing off before party leader decided to call it quits (why continue when we’ve won?). But thank you for watching us, and thank you for bringing your dark fields to a speedclear run. I will miss those days (!) Biggest drama queen, tells me he wants to play the game for fun but every other week he’s starting a fight with someone. Have fun in your new casual home, some people simply do not have 10 hours to spend in a dungeon due to an individual’s stubborness.

We are Renegatus [Ren]. We’ve changed our focus once again! We’re now semi-hardcore, we want players in zerker gear for dungeons but we aren’t no longer require that you do a trial before you join, although I will say that since we had a trial process for such a long time the players in the guild are quite competent, very friendly and sociable. Personally, I’ve reached a point with the game where I ask myself “why be elite in a game that caters to casuals primarily?” Time to stop forcing ourselves to be elite when really we have the same dungeons we’ve had since the game came out over 2 years ago. We want fun/friendly/caring/loyal/enthusiastic players to join our ranks. We especially want players that like to use voice communication, teamspeak 3 is what we use, we have a lot of made up events that we run to build guild camaraderie, i.e. karaoke nights, plug-dj events (best dj gets tipped with in game gold), stuff like that xD

What else do we do/have to offer as a guild?

Well, we’re a tight-knit guild that places emphasis on having fun, that means we like to hang out on Teamspeak quite a bit and have a laugh. We hold monthly Karaoke Nights (themed) and offer up prizes for participants and winners, our most recent winner won 100g for an original song he sang in the competition. We also, as you’ve probably guessed, find it fun to clear things fast as possible, because time is of the essence, but we’re not too anal about this aspect like we used to be. We’re accepting people that aren’t too familiar with dungeon tactics and are keen to learn.

We are based on SoR, Sanctum of Rall, but anyone on an NA server can join, since we heavily focus on pve/dungeons but are now encouraging people to try their hands at other aspect of the game.

Weekly guild missions, twice a week.

We’re very social, we use Teamspeak 3 a lot. Communication is key for everyone to be on the same page, even if you don’t talk we encourage you to come and listen in because that in itself proves to be quite entertaining.
