So since one of my comments has been removed, for not providing “constructive feedback”, I’ll clarify some things. It’s not only the event players are up roaring about, it’s the combination of lack of forethought and lack of accounting for player feedback. The sales didn’t go as hoped, and neither did the mordrem event. I still love this game but, it’s hard to downplay these issues.
I think the ways to remedy this could have been to implement bonus blooms in small amounts based on completion level (bronze, silver, gold) for example 5 for bronze, 10 for silver, and 15 for gold, along with the timed map portion. This would give players a small amount more than current, provide an incentive to play nice, and ensure time restricted folks are able to get their share of rewards. The problem here is, this game is 3 years old, and you guys have done fantastic events in the past. What has changed in the offices, to make you go against what you know works already, and how players will react to it? For arguments sake however, these aren’t things players should need to tell you.
As far as the sale, I know many people got things the needed, things they didn’t have before. The other side of that coin though, are the veteran players who already had these items, or didn’t need them. Those are the players in the 60 page gem store suggestion thread. Those players hoped that after that thread became popular, and actively monitored, maybe they would finally be obliged, and able to purchase a few items they’ve been longing for; such as, the bunny ears, grenth hood, sunglasses, character slots, and other fun items. Instead we got the run around, and even a hype inducing extension, and it all ended in a flop for many players.
I don’t want to take away from the people who got what they needed though, perhaps having more than 1-2 good sale items per day would help, you could do more of the full priced rare items, and still have the regular sales items that new players need. It’s only a short time so really it shouldn’t be game breaking, and things settle back to normal quickly anyhow. I really think it would have been worth it, in a retention sort of way had the sale targeted both player audiences a bit more evenly.
I for one am hoping somehow a fix comes soon, that will allow players a chance at the items they want so bad, now that the sales have allowed the new players to get the items they needed. Whether that be another event, or another sale, so be it. This way we can all get back to what matters, having fun in GW2.
The event was a bit short. We can all attest to that. Whether that’s a good or bad thing, I’m not sure.
The amount of bloom rewards were fine. GW2 players are just too used to grinding events that will allow them to purchase ALL the rewards offered by event vendors and I feel like some players are upset that this is not the case with the Mordrem invasion event. Personally I’m completely fine with events like these that offer limited rewards during a limited time.
The initial reward bug was unfortunate but it happens, right? The issue was addressed and rectified quickly and players retroactively awarded blooms. That’s great.
Event mobs not dropping loot and event completion not awarding karma was a bit discouraging. Maybe reduced amount of karma and loot drop could be awarded if ANet feels like it might affect the economy.
My biggest gripe was how the event encouraged tagging and running to obtain the largest stack of defender buff. This was a big NO-NO in a game like GW2 where acts of helping each other and cooperating are rewarded.
Overall, the event was more than fine for a limited time event, but the tagging and running nature of it all really turned me off.
It’s not a problem for people who don’t work 45+ hours a week, but for those that do that, and school, makes it practically impossible to get 450 in any reasonable amount of time. For the kids, and retired folks, I’m sure they did fine, but for the middle aged working class person, it didn’t work out.
Nope won’t happen, at this rate with the fails this month, we will be lucky to see anything further than HoT. NCSoft won’t give them the money for a 3rd game, especially with BnS launching soon. GW2 will now have to work off it’s own budget, and they can’t even get sales and weekend events done right anymore. lol
This really is quite sad, I feel bad that Gaile has to be the one reading all these posts. It’s not her monumental fail. It’s game devs mistake, the bad part is they are handling it like politicians. In a nutshell admitting they can’t handle game wide events, and forcing Gaile to read through all these comments, knowing she can’t do anything about game devs being blind.
Hello,
I asked the head of the GW2 Design Team about whether we would be making changes and rerunning it, extending it, or repeating it as it currently is designed.
Stuff like this just makes me die. On Monday players are complaining like hell and by Friday they want the event extended or repeated.
Quick Competition time
Use the jumbled words below to find my guess at what the head of the GW2 Design Team’s actual response to Gaile’s question was.
Having Laugh Kitten You Are A
It’s not that players want to play more of the terrible event, they are upset because they have jobs and can’t grind 4 days straight to get a few items. Instead, if they are lucky, they will get 1 item. They want it extended because they want the items, not the toxic game play involved.
This whole Anniversary month is supposed to be about getting some stuff that’s either cheap, or seldom released, for those loyal enough to spend some cash on the game. Not an endless grind for the good stuff, while having to pay for a bunch of unexciting stuff that’s always there anyway.
I feel ANet is becoming more and more disconnected from their player base.
You’d be 110% correct about that, they messed up the mordremoth event, and their response is, opps we’re sorry we will watch you guys complain in the threads and do nothing. They didn’t want to play in the event with us because they know it’s bad, and instead of extend it so people have time to grind 20+ hours for an item, they are just going to end it tomorrow and leave everyone hanging. All while we are supposed to be happy with a bunch of old items we already had, or just don’t want because they look awful, in their “big anniversary sale” 3rd year same garbage, and the new stuff looks worse. That mordremoth outfit is hideous, almost as bad as the dragon skins for the “final day”.

“Stop being so ungrateful people! Sales a charity for the customer!…”
Let me just stop you right there. Sales are NOT charity for the customer. They are a marketing tactic to try and pull people in and get them to buy even when they might not normally because “Oh that’s a good deal, I should get that now in case I want it later” and it works too. That’s why stores have them, to entice you into spending your money.
As far as the current deals go I am sad that they haven’t put character slots on sale. I wanted to get a few so I could be playing around, leveling my characters, and mapping before HoT is released. As things stand, I passed on several deals because I was waiting to see how many slots I’d get to know how much I had to spend so Anet lost money on me. I was also looking for the storage expanders, again to prepare for HoT but no luck
It could still pop up though, after the sales are done and they go back to the normal occasional sales they might put them on sale then and, if they do it’d probably be longer than a day which would be nice. I the meantime I’ll probably focus on playing other things and just do dailies and keep an eye out for the character slot to finally go on sale again.
- on a side note how do people quote others I can’t seem to find anything that tells me how to do that?
It’s the swooping arrow in the bottom right hand side of each post, and yes you’re right sales aren’t a charity. They are an aggressive pull for extra funds by a company, if the company wishes things to go well sometimes they listen to their customers and put things in a sale that people actually want.
The problem here is, they told us they would listen, and watch the threads, and they obviously didn’t. Players wanted, character slots, bunny ears, sunglasses, grenth hood, ect. They delivered non of it. They could have had these items up for 800 gems per and sold them easy, aside from the character slots. Instead they would rather leave people feeling unheard and sour about the game, especially after the botched mordremoth event.
People will always spend on a sale, as some people have spending compulsions and it’s an easy outlet. The point is huge amounts of the player base voiced their suggestions and wishes for months in multiple threads, that were then merged, which got peoples hopes up even more. Just to find out, basically nothing from the thread was put in. If Anet wants to retain customers, and wants new players to purchase HoT or even the veteran hold outs like myself, they should start listening. Other game companies are listening, and waiting to poach all the players they can. If Anet doesn’t step it up on delivering what players ask for, how can they expect us not to jump ship?
There’s FFXIV, WoW xpac, Blade and Soul, lot’s of choices are about to be made on where the next year or two of gaming will be done. It will be hard to justify sticking with a game where you know nothing changes, the best armor skins in this game are 2+ years old. The new stuff they are coming out with looks like a 5 year old drew it.

They have over 60 pages of feedback in the other thread of what items players were waiting on the edge of their seats for, and Anet delivered non of them but bagslots…
So it looks like most of the recurring suggestions in this thread never made it into the anniversary sale.. Surprise surprise, all the feedback in the world couldn’t help Anet figure out what players want it seems. Bad month for Fashion Wars 2…
Yes I’d rather they pull all of those items, like the jungle explorer outfit ect, and put up full price rare items for the sale. No one wants to wait a year for items that are always available.
So no Bunny ears, no Grenth hood, no Aviators, nothing that resembles anything that could match with the skins they put up for the event. Fail, worst sale ever. I’m happy i didn’t load up on gems for this. Why the extension? The ugly dragon armor no one will buy? rofl What a waste.. Bad event, and non of the items players have been asking for, going on 8 months. Nice job Anet on keeping players interested, guess people can move on to the next NCSoft game like Blade and Soul, without feeling bad about it now. Maybe that was your goal all along. GGWP
The game is fine, change your builds and bring condi cleanses. These are all (Get Good) problems. If not may I suggest you mail your stuff to whatever newbies you see running around I’m sure they’d love it.
All I see in this thread are people who can’t adapt to a new meta. If you don’t want to make changes to the way you play, don’t ask them to buff/nerf things.
First off we don’t know what they will change between now and launch, secondly I don’t know about you but I remember when dhuumfire happened, and all the cry babies started to quit.
The fact is people who play this game and want meta changes such as necro buffs will just cry when the meta change actually happens. Case in point mesmers sucked for quite a while, now they are better, but the only thing you see are cries for nerfs to mesmer since the buff.
Frankly the community that plays this game needs to make up it’s mind on what it wants, changing the meta means new things will be op, this causes the cry babies to quit, so Anet knows they need to walk on eggshells about how they balance or the crying starts. If you want necro buffs tell people to shut up when changes we ask for actually happen.
TLDR; If you want better necro pve dps, you better be prepared to get destroyed by necros in pvp/wvw..
