Norn only if it’s female, otherwise charr.
Nice plays and nice music. Enjoyed the mesmer PoV
Not gonna lie, you should have titled it SB life venom in stead of D/D. Nice play, but if i could have one gripe it would be your transitions. When you switch fights or viewpoints, or timing in a fight, you have to include a visual transition. The parts where you rewound and played again really throw you off and it looks like the video is skipping. Otherwise it was nice
That was a great vid. Really liked the text explanations in the bottom left. I’d love for you to make more of them. I really enjoy SP (really don’t like dp)but i wasn’t sure how to play it effectively. I’m going to try your build and see if it helps. Nice job!
Nice man, thanks for posting! cool fights, loved the music.
Hello,
I’m not a Mesmer master, but it is my favorite class to play and I enjoy it very much. I slide back and forth between CI and PU builds, but have been running a self-made bunker build for a bit too.
- What do you feel the Mesmer is currently lacking ATM? Please don’t use general terms like “damage” without elaborating for what game mode and why you feel this way.
I feel as though the skills we have don’t often provide a visual or tangible reward for our actions. I know that shatter builds do great burst, and we have some cool boon rips etc, but it doesn’t always feel like we’re actually DOING anything. We don’t have the thud of a hammer hitting someone, or the explosion of a bomb going off. I think we lack feedback (both positive and negative) from our actions on the battlefield.
- What game mode (PvP, WvW, PvE Open World/Dungeons) do you feel Mesmer currently excels in the most? Least?
I think we’re best at PvP and WvW. I get along just fine in dungeons, but I feel like I’m contributing more in PvP. WvW is tough because illusions die so quickly and it’s hard to make an impact on a huge group of people with illusions only targeting 1 person.
- Without reworking anything, what minor adjustments would you make to any of our weapons/utilities/traits to make them more viable?
Honestly I don’t think many minor adjustments would work. Not that I want to remove utility skills, but the ones we have seem like they are made for certain situations only. In PvP I rotate through maybe 4 or 5 depending on whether I’m against rangers or not, and in WvW I pretty much have veil, mass invis, and portal/IoL up all the time. It’s kind of… boring
- Is there anything that would make you stop playing Mesmer? If you’ve stopped what would draw you back?
If it got to the point where it was clear I cannot survive without another class in PvP. Being able to win a skill based 1v1 with any profession is important regardless of what you play. Also if I felt like I was useless everywhere.
- What has damaged your faith in the devs? Is there any faith remaining? What would have to happen to earn back your trust? Again, please no general statements like “a lot of nerfs.”
I haven’t followed the dev stuff very closely. I know we’re getting some changes in HoT but like everyone else no idea what. I’d really like the class to change enough to live up to it’s description of screwing with people’s minds.
- What is your one (reasonable) Mesmer wish?
More build variety of course, but I’d like to see our illusions be altered so you can have as many out as you can get at a time, but you are only allowed to blast 3 of them at once. So if you use all your GS and staff abilities, you have 4 illusions out, and you hit F1, the first 3 you summoned responded to the command, and the last one just kept on doing his thing. While I can maybe see a problem with some troll build pumping out 10+ illusions at once, you’d still only get 3 off at a time, and people would be killing them anyway. It sounds kind of OP, but I think it could work out and make our illusions be a little more important to our enemies, instead of just dodging at the right time every 10 seconds when we shatter.
If you’ve had that much help and you can’t score more than 10 points in a match with a mesmer, then it may just not be your thing! I thought I wanted to play ranger when the game first came out, and while I wasn’t bad with it, the profession just didn’t really suit what I wanted no matter how much I tried. I got a thief to 80 and love it, but I roll as a mesmer now and it’s working out pretty well. I’m not awesome, but I can hold my own in pvp.
I’d say just learn what the class can do, then go play thief and counter us that much harder. There’s no shame in not performing well with a class, so don’t feel bad about it! This is all about fun. If you’re not having fun with a profession, then switch!
I’m level 29 on my mesmer currently. My first and only 80 was a ranger that I leveled when the game first came out. I’ve just returned to the game recently, and decided to try something else out since the I wasn’t really feeling the ranger. I’m leveling a mesmer.
I did the first 20 levels without a 1h sword. I really like the staff, and was trying to see if i could get by with that and the greatsword, just because they felt more caster-y. Finally i said screw it and purchased a 1h sword. I immediately felt the difference. Things were dying quickly, I was able to easily survive encounters, and it was like a whole new world opened up. I bought another sword to dual wield them and I was even stronger. Now I run around in PVE with a greatsword in one slot, and a sword and torch in my other set. It’s a lot of fun, you can take on many enemies at once, and veteran mobs are no real problem at all.
My one tip for leveling would be this. Buy blink, and 2 other utility skills of your choice, and then save up for the healing signet. It makes such a huge difference it’s not even funny. It allows you to last in fights so much longer and you don’t even have to use heal. Yes it costs 25 skill points, but kitten is it worth it to have for soloing. Honestly most of the other skills can wait because they are either more group oriented, or not really needed until you’re fighting much harder foes. Buy the healing signet.
Nice vids, and for the most part I like it. Tried the build last night and had some pretty good success with it, even though I haven’t done a lot of PvP.
I will say that I don’t think you use your pet enough. A lot of the time its running next to you not doing anything. I know pets do a ton of damage, so I think a lot of those fights wouldn’t have been so close had you sent your pet after an opponent.
Is there a reason you’re using that particular heal over the others? It doesn’t seem like 5 seconds worth of cooldown is worth more than the 2k+ more healing you get from TU. Maybe there’s something I don’t know about it
Lastly: Do you feel that lightning reflexes is worth taking over muddy terrain? I know a lot of problems with melee could be solved if they couldn’t get to you, or were slowed. I know it supports all the dodging that the build needs, but I was just curious. Nice vids though, and nice playing
Curious after reading most of the comments here. People are complaining about the cone direction of the #4 skill on the shield. Why are you standing in a line with everyone you’re fighting with? If the boss is attacking you, everyone else should be behind it so that they don’t get caught in AOE swings etc. Therefore you should almost always be facing your group, or at least the members that need the buff. Am I the only one doing this? I can’t be..
Would probably help if we knew what you were running as far as weapons and utilities go.
Generally they have so many gap closers that slows aren’t that great. Off the bat I’d recommend using lots of traps and just start pouring on the damage so they have to react to you. Stun and dodge when you can, and keep them poisoned so they can’t heal well.
