Rofl at all the special snowflakes in this thread. “Oh, my super secret build is X good.” Yea, well, if it’s so good why didn’t anyone use it in ESL? Because it’s garbage.
If you want the honest answer, Warrior is bad at the moment, and no builds are decent. While you shouldn’t 100% rely on the classes picked for tournaments, the fact that no one played Warrior should scream that Warrior has no synergy with every other class.
Everyone in this thread talking about their “secret” build are either being carried or they are skilled enough to overcome the cons of playing the class. Skill can overcome some handicaps a class has, but it does not make it equal to the other classes in terms of strength, reliability, and synergy.
At this point in time, a new Necromancer with a build from MetaBattle will be more effective in a battle than a good/decent Warrior with all builds.
Gunflame is bad. Warrior is pretty much trash tier even with how broken Gunflame is.
This happens to me all of the time on all of the new maps near completion. I’ve never crashed in GW2 before until HoT. I’ve only completed AB once because I always crash, and when I did complete AB I didn’t get the rewards because it moves me to an instance that fails after I crash, so I can’t go around collecting stuff.
<edited for clarification>I made a post about it being unacceptable that you don’t get saved to an instance (because ALL of the maps are based on participation and all rewards are tied to that) and all of the GW2 white knights bashed me for not using the 64 bit client instead of ANet fixing their kitten.
Seriously, this game is going down the kittenter. Can’t be soon enough for Black Desert.

Imo, I would be much happier if ArenaNET dumped eSports and ESL entirely and focused on making the game fun, rather than competitive (this is for pve and pvp).
I’m so sick of all these companies wooing at eSports nowadays when the best competitive game ever: Counter Strike never lifted a single finger to get the following it had. They only made the game fun and the eSports crowd came. The same goes for Smash Bro.
You don’t need to make an eSports scene to have one, and so far it’s shown that it actually hurts your community more to cater to it.
If ArenaNET makes the game fun, eSports will follow after it.
I have zero enthusiasm for the story after that “ending,” which catered to people who hated a humble, kind-hearted protagonist. Like it or not, that was canonically your character’s friend and boss, and you failed to save him. Congratulations, Commander Screwup. Please have this visible and conveniently linkable spoiler as your reward.
Anyway. Positive feedback about Trahearne doesn’t seem to have much of an effect on anything, so I’m just going to low-effort this and say I completely agree with the OP and everyone who has similar views.
Imo, Trahearne should have become a Champion/Avatar of Mordremoth and we should have had to kill him in the end.
Instead, he remains as Treesus.
It’s almost like they’re afraid of giving him a personality.
Trahearne was terrible. I’ll list the ways:
1.) Trahearne is non-believable. He became leader of the Pact by pulling a sword out of a ground and knowing a lot about Orr. He knows nothing of military strategy (that we’re told of) and his only desire is to fulfill his Wyld Hunt. He doesn’t have loves, he doesn’t have a family, he’s just there…
This sounds like King Arthur, that mythological King on whose kingdom and customs the Sylvari are partially based.
2.) Everyone knows and loves Trahearne. Random people know Trahearne and it is presented horribly. He randomly shows up and every NPC is literally like “Yo, Trahearne! Whats up my dog?” No one seems to hate or dislike him. He literally has no personal challenges to his authority that are serious, which makes him less or a real character. Real people that make real decisions ALWAYS face harsh criticism or opposition. The fact Trahearne bulldozes his way through the story is just awful.
This is untrue. Play through PS again if you have the time or desire and listen to the dialogue between him and other NPC’s, before he is accepted as pact leader everyone and their dog questions him, and even afterward when things are moving fast in the war there is often dissent concerning which way to proceed among the orders. Sometimes that ends in a story mechanism for PC decision-making.
3.) Trahearne has NO personality. Trahearne is awful. You know that scene in Star Wars 3: Revenge of the Sith when Anakin talks about how he hates sand? That’s how Trahearne sounds ALL OF THE TIME. Trahearne doesn’t hate anyone, doesn’t seem to have emotions, and doesn’t get hurt. He is pretty much Jesus, which makes for an incredibly boring character.
Not Jesus, TREESUS!
Some people feel that haters don’t like him because he takes the spotlight, which I feel is not the point. If we had a true Pact Leader that was presented as a general or someone with more background who welcomed us a commander, it would seem so much more genuine than some random guy taking charge almost immediately with no military knowledge.
Imagine this:
Pact Leader should be someone with prior military knowledge: I honestly would love it if it was Logan or Rytlock, or any of the members of destiny’s edge. It could have been anyone that was an outsider to each of the pact factions.
They have already known you for a while (or heard of you from the other Destiny’s Edge members), respect you, and bring you on to lead a special operations task force (which is why you make decisions of what to do for Orr).
This special operations task force is what does all of the stuff on Orr, without the Pact Leader being involved until the end.
This would serve multiple purposes: you’re still a hero for leading the special operations team into Orr, the Pact Leader is believable and credible, and it leaves them with a lot of story room to do whatever they need.
If you wanted Trahearne, he could still be in the game as part of the Special Operations team because he is an expert on Orr.
If people are worried about Treesus taking the spotlight, imagine Pact Marshal Rytlock.
Anyhow, I didn’t hate Trehearne and didn’t think he really stole the spotlight, but I did think they wrote the PS poorly after the racial part, and a large aspect of that was the representation of the Trehearne-Commander relationship-as I said, I didn’t feel my spotlight was stolen, I don’t have to BE a commander of something in a game to feel like a hero- heck I don’t have to be the ONLY hero in the world or in the war to be a hero, but I didn’t feel like a commander, despite the story telling me I was one. It felt contrived. I think that put a lot of people off, and aside from that many more people who probably, in reality noticed NONE of this during their PS just love to jump on any bandwagon filled with hatred.
King Arthur is more developed than Trahearne ever was, which is why I don’t like Trahearne.
Even you agree with me that he has no personality.
If Rytlock was Pact Leader, I would LOVE IT (I don’t even like the Charr or play a Charr).
None of the Destiny’s Edge guys steal the spotlight, which is why they work for the early stories. While they do join you on a couple of occasions, the story still focus’ a lot on you.
The same exact thing goes for the mentors. They were entertaining, awesome, and had great roles in the story. Most importantly, all of the Destiny’s Edge characters and the mentors HAVE A PERSONALITY.
Once Trahearne enters the picture, everything becomes garbage.

If this is how people react to all the work put in I hate to imagine how the devs are feeling – because it isn’t a fair representation of what we got… Mob mentality or just too much hand holding in the past? And people who say “you only are having fun because you played the game more” are basicly saying “you have fun the more you play” (‘less is more’ only works for makeup).
“Working hard” doesn’t deserve a dime from me. Dev’s are not owed a kitten thing. Especially from players that are reasonably upset.
GW2 HoT is basically B2G (Buy 2 Grind). It’s not something I want my hard earned money to support. If they decide to make Hero Points more reasonable, finish the other content, then I might be willing to spend money.
Now I remember why Dark Souls was “revolutionary” in an age where all games have to be easy so that a baby could play it.
Don’t tarnish FromSoft by comparing it to this garbage.
Dark Souls was hard, but you could beat it in a single day. GW2 HoT is about wasting as much of your time as possible with the most mindless activities possible. It’s not challenging, it’s a time sink. ArenaNET has managed to add a new acronym: B2G = Buy 2 Grind.
What do people have against putting in any real effort and time to do anything nowadays. Last several years, I see countless threads among the popular MMO’s Forums, all made by people up-in-arms, about how hard this is, or how much a grind that is, ect.
It’s called progression, to progress in this game you need to put in effort, and the desire to better your character such as unlocking your Elite Spec, and soon Raids, I really hope ANet keeps up with the challenging content, and doesn’t cave to the people who want everything streamlined, just log in, and BOOM, everything handed to them.
I like the challenge this expansion presents, please don’t kill it just because you can’t bring yourselves to invest yourself into working towards bettering your character.
This isn’t a challenge.
If I wanted a challenge, I would be playing WoW w/ a Mystic progression guild. I’ve left the whole hardcore raiding scene after WoW Vanilla. Nowadays, I’m getting my fix from From Soft games for the side of me that wants a challenge. GW2 is a complete joke for “Challenges”.
This is wasting time. I paid money for a game, which goes to bar me against all of the content which I paid for unless I grind the crap out of everything. I don’t like the Dragon Hunter, I feel it doesn’t suit the Guardian well at all, but I would like to mess around with it. After learning that it’s behind a 400 hero point wall, I’ve decided that I’d rather not waste my time.
If this is what “Horizontal Progression” is, then I guess GW2 is no longer worthy of my money anymore. Simple as that.
Right, so this QQ is on the bases that U want the Elite specialisation for free?.. claiming this is a barrier and not content?..
Right, so No PvEr is going to raid?… No PvEr will do world Bosses?…. No PvEr could possibly have interests in WvW, Litterally 100% of the community complete Quests then AFK in main towns for the Rest of their lives?… Not even guild missions?….
im sorry but the statements ridiculous, theres NOTHING ELSE TO SPEND THE kitten THINGS ON, ofcourse this new specialization was GOING to involve hero points its Funded EVERY OTHER specialization throughout Guild Wars 2, to claim its suddenly wrong is ridiculous.
there is 0 terrible decisions made, dragonhunters great and is performing well in PvE and PvP and the reasons to refuse having it all together is ridiculous, to claim it was a waste of money without the elite is ridiculous, as im pretty sure PvErs mainly bought this Expansion FOR THE NEW PVE CONTENT.
400 hero points is steep, i did feel like maybe slightly too high, but to outright Say theres 0 justification to it.. and nothing to do after u’ve done it is just bullcrap, i did feel it should be on the Same sorta guideline of grind for any other Specialization, as these elites are ment to ADD to the proffession and not replace it, so the reasoning for it to be so much higher then the rest is ridiculous.
but at the end of the day, some inconviences exist.
When I picked my profession at launch, I got to play as it. I didn’t need to play anything else to unlock it. I could use all of the weapons, and only with about a 5 minute commitment I could use all weapons.
I could use the hero points to get other things like sigils, signets, meditations, etc… and that’s fine because the costs were reasonable and well within my level range.
Currently, I’ll have to complete the entire expansions Hero Challenges to actually get to play Dragon Hunter at lvl 80 capacity, so I can do all the wonderful PvE stuff you were talking about: world bosses, dungeons, raids, etc… Except for half that stuff, I’ve already done it plenty of times. I’ll do all the new content with my normal Guardian, so I can get Dragon Hunter, and do all the stuff I’ve been doing over and over and over again.
I’m not asking for something for free; I’m asking to be able to play something I paid money to have access to in a reasonable amount of time, at a reasonable point of the game.
Really wish I could get a refund for all the money I spent on this garbage.
1.) Dragon Hunter is not worth the 400 Hero Point investment. I don’t know how others feel, but the 400 Hero Points for an alternative style of play is quite frankly a complete and utter waste of my time. If ANet decides to carry on with this terrible decision, then once I decide to do the Hero Challenges, I’ll simply horde them so I can spend the points on something I’ll actually enjoy.
2.) Let me understand this: you want us to complete everything in the game to get our Elite spec so we can… sit around in Lion’s Arch? By the time me and any of the other people have our Elite Specs we will have completed ALL of the content of HoT, leaving us to do nothing but play repeat content in the game.
3.) Making us earn hero points to unlock our specializations is not content, it’s a barrier. It doesn’t make me want to play the game, it simply makes me want to horde the Hero Points for the next Elite Specialization. When I pick up most other MMO’s, when I choose mage I get to play as a mage. I don’t have to roll a Rogue in order to play a Mage.
4.) Don’t try to tell me that there is no leveling, when there totally is. Don’t try to sell me the whole “But your level isn’t going up!” BS because it’s insulting. Instead of your actual XP bar going up, your XP is replaced by Hero points. In order to gain these hero points you gotta do the challenges in HoT. The only difference is that certain things give you this type of “XP” instead of everything. Honestly, I would have rather had the level grind and the gear grind back rather than this embarrassment.
He’s a terrible character.
There is not a single reason for me to care about him at all. Most of the other order mentors have a personality and a reason why I like them. They have back stories to themselves other than “I research Orr”. They have something to live for.
Seriously, the only thing we really know about Trahearne is that he’s firstborn, somehow knows all of these order people, and that his mission is to restore Orr.
The only way they could have redeemed him is if he died during the Zhaitan fight. But no, he gets plot immunity because reasons.
No ones jealous of him, we just want a better character.
First of all, everyone knows that whoever joins random matches are going to always pick the winning side, and this creates a larger disparity in the match making it severely difficult for the losing side to make a comeback.
My suggestion is to make the winning team unable to be joined if both sides are even in teams. This makes it so people who join the match have no alternative than to join the losing team.
The intent of this change is to make it so the losing side at least has one person above the winning side or both sides are equal. The reasoning is that in a game of capturing points, the amount of players count. If the winning side has more players, then it has more players that are available to capture points and increase the gap in score. I realize this is not an optimum fix, but it would at least prevent people from bandwagoning onto the winning team if spots become available.
I do recognize that there is a downside to this in that close matches will favor the current loser, but close matches are less likely to have large point gaps which leaves players more satisfied with the match.
Example of this in action: Blue team has 5 players and Red team has 5. Blue team is currently winning, and is unable to be joined when new players join the match. This means the person has to join the Red team.
Now that the Red team count is slightly higher, they are now doing much better in the match and are now currently the winners.
Someone on the red teams house is on fire, and has to leave the match.
This leaves 5 players on the blue team and 5 players on red.
Because red is currently winning, the next player that joins has no option but to select blue because red is currently winning.
In conclusion, this change would allow the losing team more resources in terms of players so that the losing team has a chance of increasing their points instead of being severely outdone by the opponent.
This post is ridiculous. Your answer to an Ele fighting a thief is to D/D or Staff Auto attack? Rofl. How do we hit something we can’t really target with staff auto attack? You can’t select where the fireballs land. Not to mention Staff is pretty much fail for any 1v1 fight in the game. As for D/D, thieves can mostly just kite them around or go into stealth and destroy D/D because they have to be close to do any damage.
You seem to forget that thieves also have the ability to dodge roll, heal themselves, and generally do anything they want to escape the fight if it is not going their way.
Thieves are overpowered. All MMO’s that have had a stealth class with high burst damage have pretty much ALWAYS had balance issues with them and high populations. This is not because “Good” players flock to stealth classes, it’s pretty much because they are always overpowered. MMO developers have a kitten for creating stealth classes with significantly large damage and easy get-away tools, which in turn creates classes that are easy mode.
