Add dedicated GVG mode and Guild Halls

Righteous Sen.1053

Im sure this is already on A-net’s radar because having a game called Guild Wars 2 10 months in and having no dedicated GvG is ridic.

Basically it would be like GW1-Guild Halls that each Guild chooses that serve as a hub for meeting for socials etc.

1 Guild v 1 Guild GvG maps. Can be similar setup to WvW maps just on a much smaller scale and with some of the GW1 gameplay mechanics.

Tournament ranking/leaderboards.

And no WvW does not count as GvG, because the idea of GvG is combat between 2 guilds not random zergs intervening.

Shing Jea Island is probably the best intro tutorial thingy ive ever played in any game.

The game was simply stunning.

“Btw, Asian themes are in almost every mmorpg and so ArenaNet is just following the ugly trend.”

Aren’t European themes in every mmo? yeah LOTR etc provdes the basis for alot of lore, but these Asian themes are in these games because people find them compelling and the idea of a ‘world’ with one universal culture is very ridiculous.

Besides if Cantha does become released which i hope it does, its notlike you will be forced to play it.

Arena Net, let’s work with what we have

This is an itnerested but hard to implement skill.

Just add more weapon skills and the ability to change skills in and out of your weapon bar (like GW1

I’m not Russian, but given that no mod has bothered to post in here it does seem ridiculous that Cyrillic is not supported and there does not seem to be any indication that A-net are even concerned about it atm.

After reading this thread I probably will make an Asura, so thanks peeps for all the reasons.

Personally I find their appearance, voices and lore boring/annoying.

I prefer the Dwarves if they were to be playable due to their lore, hardy appearance, but I really respect A-net not including them as a playable race (or with the exception of that 1 guy a visible race).

Add more skills/remove mandatory sets.

I understand in a truly open world game like GW2 (vs GW1 instanced gameplay) it would be more resources that need to be devoted on Anets part to ensure skill balancing.

But I feel that being tied to weapon skills (and not being able to swap out weapon skills) and only having elites etc to play around with, limits the gameplay diversity, experience and opportunities for PvE/PvP/WvW.

One great element of GW1 that kept many people coming back was the sheer amount of skills and builds to play around with, that constantly evolved, changed and emerged.

It kept things fresh and varied.

But now you basically the same builds being played by people all the time.

I understand it would be a big undertaking and change a large element of gameplay in GW2, but I think its necessary to keep things fresh and interesting.

Hell, it would breathe more life into the game.

Maybe many of the new skills thatwould be added don’t need to be “new” at all, but some skills can be taken from GW1 and added, as some already have been on release, that don’t interfere with lore/gameplay mechanics

GvG - Let them eat cake!

Righteous Sen.1053

^ yes.

Each Guild had their own Guild Hall which was used for Guild members to congregate on a non-GVG basis.

Then you had GvG mode which was 1 Guild v 1 Guild. Basically it was a smaller map version of WvW with two opposing towers and Guild Halls. There were no non-Guild members apart from 1 guest you could have to fill slots.

It is not complicated or particularly time consuming to make, hell, just use the skins from WvW.

Also a GvG tournament viewing and ranking system is necessary and wont be too time consuming to implement, given the framework is already there.

The people saying we dont need 1 v 1 dedicated GvG are complete idiots who probably don’t understand this hardcore pvp concept or are trolling.

I think what your experiencing maybe is just that much of the content has been exhausted.

Thats how i feel now versus the sheer dopeness of this game i experienced upon release like you.

I think its only natural to get bored.

However GW1 had less content in terms of exploration than GW2 but what kept it for me was the expansions, ability to set your own skills and captivatng PVP.

I think the onus for A-Net now is to really look at how to move the game forward. I wouldnt say a huge opening of new areas is immediately necessary but certain game mechanics that imo should be obvious is GvG dedicated arenas, GVG halls and adding of new skills, thus ensuring everyone isnt running the same builds.

lets rename it to World of Guilds.

Or Guild Worlds.

Seriously though dedicated GvG and Guild Halls needsto be implemented ASAP please.

The content updates being given so fast is great, but i’d rather you focused more on gameplay fixes and stuff like ded. GVG that should have been in the game upon release.

a Dragon Bash Festival and the other living story will be/are nice for about an hour then you get bored or complete them.

They look cool at times, but most of the time look incredibly cheesy and oversized.

In GW1 you knew if someone had a dope weapon just from the skins, it didn’t need to be chronically oversized on some WoW kitten.

Mursaat were dope and kitten creepy villains much better than a kittenty dragon and its lame kitten eye of sauron rip off

GvG idea

in WvW

Righteous Sen.1053

GvG needs to be a seperate game mode like in GW1.

The point of GvG is 8 v 8 or 12 v 12, in which 2 guilds battle it out on their respective Guild Halls (which naturally needs to be added)

WvW is highly inadequate for GvG, because it isnt a dedicated game mode for GvG nor does WvW reward skill. How can a guild test its prowess and skill over another guild in two zergs and with other random non-guild members>???

Anyone who was into GvG’s in GW1 knows exactly what I am on about

just make a GVG mode.

and make an alliance battle mode. (i would suggest this replacing wvw but people would object. how the mechanics of factions would play into alliance battle i dont know but it could just be server based. similar to wvw, just limited to 12 v 12, similar in scope to the AB in GW1).

You guys are all so cute. Spvp and WvW players are equally bad. In both, the players will try to get a numbers advantage because they can’t cut it by themselves.

how are people supposed to ‘cut it by themselves’ vs a zerg?

zergs are the predominant group org in WvW, its only natural to fight fire with fire.

I love PvP. But people who think WvW is PVP obviously have reading difficulties.

The whole point of WvW is making PvP accessible fun and rewarding for PVE chars, and thus combining the two worlds.

Which is why I advocate an alliance battle type mechanic with 12 v 12 that rewards skill more than it rewards a nice internet connection and zergs

This would reduce the chances of zergs when implemented properly. Let’s face it half the people only do WvW cuz its easy experience

Lol @ all this they are the “real” PVP players.

tPVP is more about moving between points to create the 3v2 in your favor than it is about actual PVP.

Open field WvW fighting is more PVP than tPVP ever will be until it gets a mode other than conquest borefest.

Lol, no, just no.

Tpvp is a game of skill, while wvw is more a game of, who has the biggest group and can swarm the other.

I have no idea why ArenaNet not only hasn’t included this game mode, the very soul of GW1 PVP, but also doesn’t and didn’t even address it (or the demand for it). It’s as if they deem it never even existed. What’s this, Soviet Russia?
The idea behind it is simple. You wouldn’t even have to modify much from the basic GW1 principle. A medium sized map with a medium team size (8-10) with objectives more akin to WvW than sPvP (but instead of dozens of keeps and camps, only one keep containing the Guild Lord and camps as secondary objectives like flag stands on some maps). Seriously, just reuse some WvW skins if that means we will actually get it.
Make it hot-joinable for random teams or not, but the important thing is that the main teams have to be competing guilds – or guild alliances if you ever decide to add that feature.
There’s just no long-term goal for dedicated groups interested in competitive PVP. Yeah you can do three shorts matches of a paid tournament, yay I guess? What about battles that last half hours or longer? A ladder that actually matters?

Please let this be not wasted 5 minutes of my time and give us all some reply.

Agreed, it would not even be an issue to use the same mechanics for tourneys from GW1/GW2 and apply it to GVG and it would be even loss bother to create some Guild Hall maps. why not use some of the skins from GW1 and retouch the gfx on them?

A dedicated GVG is definetely needed.

WVW is neat and all but I really don’t know why people think we dont need a GVG mode. Coming across guilds in WVW and having 1 v 1 Guild Battles on dedicated maps and guild halls is a completely different ball game.

The people who think WVW and GVG are essentially one and the same most likely aren’t into dedicated PVP or a kitten idiots because WVW is more so a game of bandwith, luck and numbers, while 1 Guild vs another Guild with equal numbers is a game of skill 100%

WVW is not really that tactical. mindless lag inducing zergs lose their fun very quickly and it seems like more a WOW mechanic than the PVP in GW1 whch was renowned among MMO’s

Anybody who appreciates just how tactical and fun PVP was in GW1 knows we need dedcated GVG.

While were at it, bring back an Alliance Battle mechanic, or cut WVW numbers and make a maximum number. Alliance Battles (obv. no Kurzick/Luxon factions are evident but could have any random factons) were fun because the maps were detailed, the 12v 12 (or was it 8v8) mechanic meant less zergs, more individual groups for collecting resources etc.

Finally, while I understand why the dev’s did not include so many skills as in GW1 as it would be a nightmare to balance them all in a true open world game such as GW2, what so many players loved about GW1 was the large amount of skills and builds that could be utilised in PVE/PVP. It kept the game fresh, constantly evolving and people like me coming back to the game for 4+ years.

Now you’ve got dudes everywhere running the same kitten builds.

Its almost like ANet watered down the PVP/freedom in skills element of the game and made highly sub-par

Although the game is simply amazing, there is considerable things that can be improved, and i’m glad A-Net is listening to the community and releasing new content at a rapid pace, but i’d rather they focus on things like the above.
