Think we should keep adding more videos that ANet could watch, should they come by?

Well, there were some tweaks that made some abilities a bit more interesting than before;

The way how Chocking Gas was changed, that it now stuns enemies periodically depending on poison stacks, gave thief a wide AoE-Crowd control option, but only work if they correctly prepared the situation for it.

By either loading up on spider venom or teaming up with classes that can spam poison into enemies (Necromancer or Condi Revenant), thieves can now feel a bit more like a class that manipulates the combat environment for their own gain.

While this is certainly a minor change for a single skill, it still feels like an area that Anet has scrapped on before, and just push further into it.

I can definitely attest to the first video; The warrior nerfs as given by the latest patch definitely gave me a sour/bitter feeling whenever I even looked at my Warrior. Feeling the additional cast-time for headbutt and the greatsword primal burst just made me switch away from warrior in the current patch.

I still love the game, playing on an Elementalist (for PvE) and Thief (for PvP) instead, but it’s still immensely exciting when a character is given a buff or a way to fight an existing meta instead.

I highly recommend the first video in terms of what patches should seek to accomplish. The second video is very good too, but I feel applies more in a E-sports scenario.

TL;DR: Watch both. Correctly expresses feelings.

Why is it called PvP?

Robert Williams.4872

It’s probably called PvP for simplicity & familiarity; the name is easier to market, and let everyone know of what that game-mode is supposed to be.

Remember, any sort of player against another players (or group) constitutes as PvP. A more specific term to single player vs. single player would be Dueling, and more appropriate for fights that aren’t team fighting.

And, as for why we don’t have dueling, the game deve probably didn’t want to create a new game mode of which they have to balance for. Imagine if every class must be balanced for sPvP AND dueling?

Edit: Gramar corrections.

A patch a season keeps the game interesting. Warriors were nerfed hard, but Thieves (provided they have friends) now have one of the highest single-target damage with some of the simplest rotations. There were Nerfs and Buffs in this update, It feels great to be able to use new things.

So, not feeling bad atm.

Considering that we’re yet to have episode 6, we’re more than likely to go through at least one more balance patch. Honestly, this post should’ve been made THAT DAY, If there are full-house nerfs.

Then again, this post is mostly getting people riled off, based solely on opinion & guesstimates.

I HIGHLY doubt that it’s a GM island…. But holy kitten you might be on to something here.

It could eventually become something like Havoc’s Heir & Noble’s Folly (Wiki those if curious).

But then again, the thread mentioning this place is 4 years old (about as old as the game itself, really.)

Here’s an idea, how about we give this forum post some constructive direction….

1) Is there a way to measure skill level?

2) Does it matter?

Well, Plok, suggesting ideas that ask for QoL might make a Dev think twice to seeing if there is interest in these features; it’d show how much we’re willing to go for to have these QoLs, and possibly give suggestions that they may not have thought about at first, until suggested.

It’s 200 Gold for an arena Ticket, and 2 Gold per extra day beyond the first 30. That’s a lot of unnecessary grinding for a dueler to have favorable conditions, or otherwise easily accessible content.

@ Acnologia

There’s a catch to that; You need a “Custom Arena Starter Ticket” for that, and you open a server for 30 days…. Click on “My Custom Arena” yourself, really quick, and you’ll see it.

I say we take the “Look at the suggestion, and see where it can take us” route with this.

First of all, We don’t have easily accessible 1v1s in sPvP or PvE.
As much as it is suggested here, players WOULD NOT just be able to “Jump in” into the mists for a quick 1v1.

If you want to PvP Duel someone, it’s a complicated system of servers, until you can hopefully find a functioning server that you and a friend can (At most, hopefully) play uninterrupted. In comparison to a “Duel player” option, players have to be Introduced to the idea of being able to 1v1 in this game.

By this point, this is a feature only available to those with prior knowledge, or have showed the way.

The other way is using Guild-Hall instances for 1v1s, which while may seem easy or make some sense, it’s a small time restriction for players who might want to try, but are yet to have a guild… And a major restriction for F2P players, whom cannot use this content without HoT.

Combined with the above, dueling in this game is a feature unavailable to truly new players. This is game content of which Could have been better introduced to newer players, possibly appealing some to stay & be around for enough time to value purchasing the expansion, or gem store items.

.

IN CLOSING (tl;dr)
We have valid reason to consider an easier, more available dueling option that is easily available to newer players, and open-world dueling is a suggestion that tackles this. If we want to argue constructively here, we ought to suggest easier access to dueling, with or without open-world dueling.

Also, Squid, NEVER settle for less QoL if the only way they’ll do it is if they can make a profit; These features help ease player experience, encourage newer players, and overall just make the game more enjoyable.

These suggestions should be what we would like to see in the game; Leave profit making to them.

Quite possibly: More opportunities to make Magnetite shards, more interesting weapon skins, auras, the usual.

Well, a consumables bar might not be as convenient if only with shared slots; people just buying HoT probably only have 1 (including me, though I’ve played for years now).

It’d feel more like you’d have to sacrifice a convenience for another, if it’s shared slots only.

WvW builds in Metabattle aren’t always… good.

And I think you’re skipping over how Thief, as a DPS class, has access to “Heal on Crit damage” (Every other attack with level 80 Berserker exotic). It’s also faster and easier to use on PvE maps than most classes due to mobility AND stealth, and is still Good-Great in raids.

You wouldn’t be the most wanted for in Raids with a thief, but you would be able to pull your weight.

Whenever you see hoards of people using the same builds in WvW it’s an indication that they are currently OP.” – Hitman

it could mean OP, or just that the class is really liked.

Dragonhunters tend to be slow, but can counter thief & Mesmer pretty well, and are easy to play as, relatively.
they’re also Heavy Class whose Elite sports a ranged weapon, perhaps attracting attention on its own

Though, any class can be good one way or another in WvW (Maybe not Revenant).

Riffle is Useless

in Warrior

Posted by: Robert Williams.4872

Robert Williams.4872

I wouldn’t call rifle useless, unless we’re looking solely at a PvE meta perspective.
.
The rifle’s ranged-burst style is great in WvW, and niche but usable in PvP. In terms of warrior being able to dish out ranged AoE damage, it already has longbow condi-build.
Rifle does offer Ranged Dps damage for power builds, which people can opt for should they want to build for a PS Power warrior in certain situations.
.
It’s not meta though, if that’s what we’re complaining about. It doesn’t deal as much damage as a Daredevil, doesn’t have the same dps buffing as a Support Condi, nor does it provide any healing whatsoever. But at that point, it’s bashing Rifle for not being the best.

[Suggest] Remove the canceled skill cooldown

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Robert Williams.4872

Some history info & gameplay advice.

History of Chaotic Release

I’m not sure about the “Valuable Choice” argument as given by SlipplyCheeze.5483, but I do remember that when Heralds came into the game their elite skill Chaotic Release had virtually no cool-down when cancelled.

By canceling animations mid-cast, it was possible to spam the animation of Chaotic Release, which can cause some lag to on-lookers due to its rather effect-intensive animation, or to flaunt around with a clearly unintentional animation effect.

A quick fix later, and now Chaotic Release, alongside other Revenant skills, are given animation cool downs, which has toned down the skill spamming.

That would hopefully explain why skills such as Chaotic Release & Jade Winds have skill-cancel cool-downs, but that doesn’t necessarily explain skills such as One-hundred blades, but it’s likely for similar reasons.

Besides, makes for interesting game-play, especially in PvP.

Gameplay tip about Skill Canceling

Though, judging from your comment, it seems as though you’ve only cancelled your own skills by dodging. There is another way to cancel non-movement abilities without switching weapons by using “Stow/Equip” weapons mid-casting. That way, you can bluff opponents in PvP with faked skill-casts (Such as with Kill Shot or Chaos Release), or stop an unintended skill cast.

Helps a lot with the gameplay, and can make using skills feel more fluid.

So in the end, if you’re the insisting sort, you can manage yourself a (c ) scenario of “Stand and take the hit, and loose access to the ability for a while!”
