Tactics minor would be Lung Capacity.

Traits can be changed to tactics minor Leg Specialist, major Quick Breathing taking Sword/Warhorn instead (or Axe/Warhorn if you just want the condi cleanse).

Is it better to go 0/0/20/30/20 taking Sharpening Axes as major discipline trait?

How much Healing Power is needed to make use of Vigorous Shouts? Should I drop the cleric gear and go full zerk, or add mor cleric?

Would this spec be viable for PvE, although not optimized?

You could also debate whether you could switch in the 10% reduced damage signet for one of your consecrations. You don’t need reflect all the time, but when you do, perhaps swap it out for Hallowed Ground.

But as I say, who knows what will be announced next Tues. I’d sit tight for now.

Valid point, this would provide more bulkiness to the build indeed.

Your crit chance is really, really low.

Anyway, if you’re dead set on running a build like that; I’d just go with 15/15/0/20/20. That’s a really good hammer build setup, will work with mace as well.

Is there a good reason for wanting to avoid Berserker gear? Or is this just kind of one of those ‘special snowflake’ things

About going full zerk or not; I’m well aware of the advantages of running full zerk (and I run it on various dmg-focused alts), and the disadvantages (for me, personally). I just feel more comfortable playing with some bulkieness built into my gear sets, especially when playing my guard.

So looking at gear only I made some adjustments (full zerk trinkets) and som changes to armor (one alternative with soldier and one with knights).

With soldier armor pieces I gain 1500 health and 50 attack, but loose out on 50 extra armor and 7% extra crit chance compared if I go knight’s pieces.

Is it possible to argue that the 7% increase in crit chance makes you proc vigorous precision more ofter = more endurance = more dodge healing from selfless daring?

If next update brings more viable ways for us to focus on support builds in PvE content I might aswell hold out until the patch notes are released, but the theory exercise is well needed anyhow.

So, I’ve been lurking these forums alot, trying to find a way for my sweet Guardian to get some use of her hammer (and mace).

I’ve been trying to go all zerk, but that route is not for me (for whatever reason). So I’ve been fiddling around with some gear combinations, trying to find a sweet spot where I get a bit more survivability through gear stats (vitality/toughness) without loosing too much offensive capabilities.

What it the minimum damage/crit chance you would recommend for PvE content? With the setup below I’m at 3252 damage/30% crit chance without food. I’d like to think atleast 16k health helps me ride through some of the cond spikes in various dungeons? Will the 30% crit chance (with low access to fury) be a problem with proc on crit?

As I mentioned above I want to make as much use of the hammer (and mace) as possible and therefore I was thinking about going for a symbol focused build.

Alt 1: More focus on symbols and consecrations (although low condition cleansing for my group)

I was aiming to create a traid spread that allowed flexibility between a symbol/consecration and symbol/shout support hybrid. Hence the traits choices.

Last thing: Would you recommend waiting for the October 15 update, or is it unlikely that any major changes will be made to the mechanics of this build?

Hopefully this thread can contribute with some thoughts on how to play a Guardian i PvE without going full zerk.

Best Gear Mix for Tanky WvW

I consider this a rather “tanky” build for both zerg and group roaming. It’s what I’ve been using since Chris posted the build.

If I wanna go even more tanky I switch GS for mace/shield and swap stats to 0/0/20/30/20 taking II, VII, II, IX, XI, II, IX.

Works like a charm and my guildies appreciate the support it provides.

"Hidden Fire" New Mesmer Build WvW

I’ve been trying an interesting hybrid. By swapping out “Empowered Illusions” with “Crippling Dissipation” and using Focus instead of pistol (Sw/T – Sc/F) You get an incredible amount of crowd control. It’s amazing for both zergs and solo. Try to produce as many clones as possible and almost never shatter so your foe kills as many of them as they can. Check it out.

Hybrid Gear

I would not worry about condition damage that much. With this build your damage is prob 70:30 direct:conditions.

If power is the primary stat; is it better to go rampager armor with a mix of cavalier/knight trinkets with ruby jewels in them?

I’m not sure wether it’s better to go for the 30/20/10/0/10 option using staff and greater marks or go 30/25/0/0/15 and use axe/dagger or dagger/warhorn as second set.

Any thoughts?

I’ve fiddling around with two setups, the first beeing more focused on pow/pre with an extra fear (staff #5) while the second is more into cond using scepter/dagger as offhand.

What do you guys think?

Seems tanky enough to endure a DoT fight, and has utlities to reset/escape if needed. Not sure of how the killing power will turn out though.

(I only took ascended amulet bcs I don’t have the resources to go full ascended on trinkets)

If you would use this for WvW (or some PvE content), should you play it as a condition build (focusing on confusion/bleeds/burning for damage) or a power build (focusing on illusions for damage and using invis for utility and condition removal)?

If going condition specced, would you run full rabid gear with 2x krait/2x undead/2x necro? I guess rabid trinkets with carrion rubies would be the way to go? Not sure about sigils though.
My thoughts: 20/0/30/0/20 taking IV, IX, IV, X (or VII), XII, V, IX?

If going power specced would you run a mix of zerk/knight/valkyrie gear with 6x centaur? A mix of zerk/cav trinkets? Not sure about sigils here either.

The build will be aimed for WvW, I might use it in PvE dungeons and alike though.
Q1: Which stat values should I aim for? Was trying to aim for 2k+ armor and 50%+ crit chance but maybe that’s wrong?
Q2: How should I spread the stats on armor between Ber/Kni/Val? Any improvements to be made of the current spread? Also applies to the trinkets.
Q3: Not sure which runes to go for, I picked Eagle/Ranger for the Prec which gets me to 50% crit chance.
Q4: Which sigils are best used with this kind of build? I saw one meta build using Ai/Air and Bloodlust/Bloodlust but that’s way out of my budget.

Edit:
Would maybe a gear stat spread like this suit WvW better? Ber weapons, Kni armor, Cav/Val trinkets.

Q1: I’m kinda crappy at condition builds. How should I spread armor stats between Rab/Carr? No idea which stat values to go for. Applies to trinkets aswell.
Q2: I can see that Necromancer runes are very specific for the terror build. Is it possible to create a “hybrid” condition set (if I would like to change to a Dhuumfire/bleed build), and if so which runes should I go for?

I would be forever grateful for any help you guys and gals can provide!
