Healway build (0/0/10/30/30 with shouts, full cleric gear, boon duration runes, and energy sigils) is surprisingly effective and has the quality of life benefit of perma-swiftness when needed. I love it in small scale WvW like impromptu jumping puzzle battles.
Efficiency is dependent on what role you want to be, what encounters you plan on doing (dungeons or high fractals), and how skilled you are as a player. Also to an extent, how organized your group is.
In terms of stat spread, to quote Brutaly who has it spot on:
25-60%% crit
2800-3400 Attack
14k-18k health
2400-3300 armour
200-1200 heal power
51-105% critdamageIf you can hit the minimum or inbetweens of those stats, you’re pretty much golden.
However, you need to adjust them depending on typical roles specified below.A typical anchor guardian would be sporting Knights armor w/ Berserker accessories with a 0/0/30/30/10 trait build along with either soldier runes or boon duration with shouts. Knights give you enough survivability without compromising on DPS too much. Plus, the boon duration, shouts, and AH from 30 Valor will give you great sustain and support.
A typical support guardian would be full clerics along with 0/X/X/30/X traits, boon duration runes and shouts. While this stat-build has great healing power through Selfless Daring party heals, you will deal low-mediocre DPS. This build seems to be deemed quite ineffectual in general PvE and dungeons as the low DPS may prolong fights which can cause mistakes for both you and your team. However, this has great potential in the PvP game type.
If you drop 30 Valor and let go of Altruistic Healing a whole slew of new builds will open up for you, which are basically the Pure, or Almost-Pure type roles.
A very offensive DPS role but still with support, is easily X/30/X/20/5 with Right-Handed Strength. Deals extreme DPS for a guardian and is still robust and supportive with the right kind of rune and stat spread.
And a very supportive role would be 0/0/X/30/20-30. Supplement with boon duration runes and shouts, with Pure of Voice as needed.
And for the record, I run a boon-duration supportive anchor with Berserker Armor, but with Knights Chest & Legs along with Ascended Zerk amulet with Ascended Cavalier Rings/Trinkets and an Ascended Soldier Backpiece. Plus Knights GS with +5% crit rune and Cleric Staff.
Brings me to unbuffed stats of:
3K-ish Attack
3.1k Armor
43% Crit
79% Crit DMG
15K HP
50% Boon Duration
350 Healing PowerWorks completely fine in any sort of dungeon or general PvE without any hiccups.
This is grade A advice.
I favor the “Anchor Guardian” with boon duration runes in PvE and the “Healway” type cleric build in WvW. Both work great in these roles.
Seems like you’re off to a good start. As stated above, you usually cannot “face tank” these bosses unless maybe you have an elementalist dropping water fields that you can proc your hammer blast finisher on, and probably not even then. Dodge rolling the big hits is important (e.g. the slave driver’s fire whip attack)
I agree with Lightrayne above: Empowering Might from Honor line would be another group buff that would proc Altruistic Healing for a boost to your survivability while boosting your group’s damage. I would swap out either Pure of Voice or Two-Handed Mastery for EM.
I’d also drop the Dolyaks runes in favor of either Soldiers or a combo that offers +40% boon duration (e.g. 2 superior Monk / 2 superior Water / 2 major Water).
Healway build is very strong 1v1. You may not like it, but there’s no denying that it is very effective, especially when you start getting comfortable enough to swap in more PVT gear to the basic Cleric gear.
Amazing video showcasing pro tactics.
Stack up. Zerg around. Smash smaller groups of players.
Pro.
Camping spawns points is classy.
Stay classy, Kaineg.
Instant server transfers up and down a supposedly competitive ladder system for WvW is just ridiculous.
It’s too bad that Arenanet made a solid game overall and then hobbled it with such a huge design flaw.
I can understand server transfers for a week or even a month after starting a new account, but to still have this happening week after week after week is fairly poor basic game design.
Unfortunately, and I mean no disrespect, I think this is a perfect example of one of the problems I see with Yak’s Bend. Your mentality is so rooted in numbers, that you guys seem to give up and forget strategy.
40 man zergs are not the ideal play style, and they are not at all necessary. I run a guild that at most fields 15 people, and there is rarely a tower we can’t take, and a keep we can’t pressure. If I could have one 40 man zerg or two 15 man organized groups, I would go with organization any day. We learned, as a server, how to do this because we were so often outmanned. We know siege placements, work together, know how to ninja, and have some of the best mesmers in the game. These are more important than numbers any day.
It’s easy to say these things when you have the overall numbers in your favor. Yak’s Bend’s mentality is fine. We have people who are organized. Like all servers, we have many people who run around aimlessly – every server has those people. Also, there’s only so much a “ninja” group can do. You take a tower or two and word gets around to the enemy and they finally root you out because of their numbers.
The good thing about Yak’s Bend is that we have a relatively stable membership. When all the servers that have been poisoned by over-transfers rise to the top, we will end up in the middle Tier with even matchups and loads of fun. We don’t need the drama that comes with over-populating a server.
This.
Yaks Bend had some great battles a few weeks ago against Maguuma. I don’t even remember who won in total points that week, but I think it was Maguuma. Either way, a lot of fun for BOTH sides I think.
This new Maguuma is clearly a top tier server in numbers and organization, and I wish you well on your ride up.
I’m honestly not upset with Maguuma or with large guilds of WvWvW players who transferred there. (Well, OK, I’m a little grumpy with the Maguuma spawn campers. C’mon guys, really? Not too classy.)
I kitten at Arenanet for making a broken “ladder” system, and pretending its competative while allowing people to transfer up and down whenever they want.
Sadly, making it cost a few hundred gems to transfer DOWN to a lower tier isn’t going to fix the problem.
It’s a shame really, because if the system worked and server transfers had ended long ago, the system would have really worked quite well I bet.
Anyway, good luck Maguuma and hang in there YB and IoJ.
Oh no. Nerf to Guardian AoE damage incoming… wait a second…. What AoE damage? Scepter maybe? Oh no…
Survivability comes from dodge rolling and avoiding red circles.
Most stuff at higher end PvE will kill you quickly no matter how high your toughness/vitality is.
Dodge rolling effectively means managing your endurance, so the key to survivability as a Guardian, in my opinion, is maintaining vigor, which you can get through self buffs, or importantly through critical hits (with the correct minor talent).
It may seem counter-intuitive but a high crit rate will actually help you survive better.
In a typical Altruistic Healing build in a PvE group setting, crits provide both healing and vigor for dodges (which also heal).
I recommend going for Knight’s gear (power/precision/toughness) and skip vitality gear altogether.
Consider heal-on-crit food as well if need be. Sigil can also be healing on crits, or go for Energy for even more endurance for more dodges.
tl;dr Learn to avoid damage. Dodging skillfully is the key.
Easier fix.
1) End free transfers.
2) No transferred accounts can participate in the current WvWvW match-up.
Mis-matched server inbalances aren’t fun for anyone, “winners” or “losers.”
From the point of view of a Yak’s Bend player:
Sanctum of Rall has clearly won the war, and through strong numbers and solid organization, dominated all 4 maps. They deserve the victory. Well played, folks.
SoR deserves to move up the ranks and face tougher servers. Whether it is due to an influx of new players to your server or the skill, numbers, and organization of the long time SoR players, your server is clearly fighting below your tier. I wish you good luck on your ride to the top.
I look forward to next week and hope Yak’s Bend will face more evenly matched servers like last week when all 3 servers finished neck and neck. That was a blast. For all 3 servers, not just Yak’s Bend (who finished 2nd).
I, for one, enjoy being a “middle tier” WvW server. I like small queues and constant back and forth battles. Yaks’ Bend dominated all 3 worlds a few weeks back versus some bottom tier servers and it was… frankly boring…
I do believe that Arena net needs to stick to their original plan and, especially with free server transfers, not allow transferred players to participate in current WvWvW matches. The servers will never stabilize until that happens and lop-sided battles aren’t fun for either server.
In the end, congrats to SoR. Good luck to you. I don’t expect we’ll be facing you again anytime soon.
