[Elite Spec Idea] The Medium

in Necromancer

Posted by: Roseblood.6793

Roseblood.6793

Note: I never played GW1 so I do not know how much this resembles Ritualists in the original game.
The reaper has been bugging me a whole lot and I couldn’t figure out why. Only when I played with my mesmer for a bit I realized what my problem with it was, it was lacking the “caster” or “mage” feel I get when I play vanilla necro. Because of that it got me to think about a new elite spec (because base necro will never be viable because of the reaper, we’ve asked for revamps since forever). My suggestion is as followed:

The Medium:

Class mechanic: Veil shroud (could be changed)
The necromancer dwells in a state between the world of the living and the dead, allowing it to mediate between the two worlds. Veil shroud features a massive staff as its weapon.
Veil Shroud would feature a 2-set Auto-Attack (AA), a special debuff on #4 and a gap closer.

Class skills: Mantras
The necromancer has learned to summon the souls of the fallen, to be released at any time. Do take not, however, that these souls will hinder you as well.
The mantras will work much like the mesmer’s mantras, but they each have a debuff (we have to stay true to the necro, like it or not). This also means we can make them stronger than the current ones.

Class weapon: Off-hand scepter
The reasoning for this? None, I just like the symmetry as I primarily run scepter mainhand.
Unlike its main hand counterpart, it does not have to focus on applying condition (unless traited). Instead, it focuses on ranged AoE damage. I also opted for the more realistic ideas because, let’s face it, we’re never getting a block.

New mechanic: Haunted
Some skills will apply a Medium specific debuff called haunted. It does not stack duration or intensity, every time it is applied it’ll last for 10 seconds. If applied while the opponent still has it, it increases the duration back to 10.
This mechanic is part of the core to this specialization. In it’s vanilla state it does not do anything, it is just a guide for many of the Medium’s skills to have extra effects. The medium can then trait to make it reduce the target’s attack/defense by 5% (does not stack with multiple mediums).

So now that I’ve given a general description of the skills and mechanics, I’d like to share the skills I had in mind. Note that I haven’t thought of skills for every slot.
Veil Shroud:
Veil #1: Ghastly Blast – 2 chain auto-attack that applied Haunted on the 2nd attack.
Veil #2: ****** – teleports to the target location, dealing damage in the surrounding area.
Veil #3: Terrifying Ghast – Summons a ghost at the target location that lasts 2-3 seconds. Enemies are feared by it and run away from the ghost (not you).
Veil #4: ****** – Sends out a large amounts of ghosts to surrounding enemies. Each enemy struck gains the Haunted state.

Mantras:
Mantra of ****** (Heal) – When prepared it reduces the necro’s healing from external sources by 20%. When activated it gives a good heal.
Mantra of Redemption – When prepared it reduces the necro’s boon durations by 10%. When activated it shares all buff on the necro with its allies.
Mantra of Revenge – When prepared it reduces stamina regen by 10%. When activated it damages any enemies with the Haunted state, no matter the range. Also breaks stun.
Mantra of Corruption – When prepared it increases condition damage on you by 10%. When activated, it transforms 3 boons on the enemy into conditions. 5 if haunted.

Scepter:
Scepter #4: * – calls down the ghosts from the mists to deal damage in the target area. (much like Guardian scepter #2).
Scepter #5: * – Sends forth a large bull spirit that will knock back the opponent. Blast finisher.

Traits:
As for traits, I only have a few. It’d be awesome to get some more ideas for these:
Minor Adept: leave behind a ghost that explodes, applying Haunted in a small area.
Adept trait: Gain stability when you apply fear.
Master Trait: Off-hand scepter skills all inflict torment on impact. Reduced cooldown by 20%.
Master Trait: The haunted debuff reduces the target’s attack/defense by 5%. Increases duration to 12-15 seconds.
Master trait: Gain 2 stacks of might for every time you apply a new stack of Haunted (not renew).

I hope you like my idea and feedback is always welcome. Also, looks like I made this post longer than I intended it to. Not sorry though :P

Parasitic Contagion and Shroud

Hiya,
I was thinking of making a tanky condition build that would use parasitic contagion. The idea is to keep dishing out damage until I’m low health, go DS/RS and then apply burning with dhuumfire. I thought this might work because all other vampiric/siphoning effects keep healing you (your real HP pool) while you’re in shroud. This trait, however, does not. Just found it odd to differentiate this one so I assumed it was a bug of some kind.

It does not work for either shrouds either. I tested both Deathshroud and Reaper Shroud.

I see a fairly simple solution to all this:

Make the Pact Tyria masteries available to everyone. (no sarcasm either).

I think that the mastery system is something that can be expanded upon but it’d have to be a part of the core game for it to feel normal. Using expansions to expand on expansions just feels weird. It gives existing players a taste of what it’s like and might motivate others to join in on the HoT fun.
My main problem with this will be the increased amount of gold-sellers that will farm the legendary masteries to sell the legendaries online.

EDIT: Looks like someone posted the exact same thing as I wrote this =_="

New Fractal questions

Roseblood.6793

1) What exactly does each fractal mastery do for rewards
For rewards? There is the first one that gives you access to a specific merchant. It allows you to buy a piece of a collection as well.
The third mastery gives extra drops at the end of every fractal as well as from the boxes you get at the end.

2) What if any effect does personal fractal level have on rewards, which chests are effected.
As far as I know, the reward at the end of a fractal is determined by your current level. If you are a higher level than the fractal you are in, you will receive the reward you would get for the fractal’s level, not your own.

3)If personal level does effect chest drops, what are the rates currently set at.
All I can tell you is that the higher the level, the higher the drop rates. It’s waaaaay too early to be able to tell this.

4)What is supposed to be able to drop from each daily chest
There are 2 types of daily chests, the 3-run and the 1-run chests. The 3 run chests are the ones you get for completing 3 fractals within a specific range. These drop the best items (rings and ascended armor plus other stuff). The higher the level range, the better the drops.
The 1-run chests give less reward but also provide ways to get keys for the boxes you find at the end of every fractal. One of those matrices, for example, equals 2 keys.

5)what is supposed to be able to drop from fractal encryption boxes (core and mastery)
So I don’t know the non-mastery drops, but I take it they are less in value than the mastery ones. These boxes give junk items (all part of a collection) than you can sell for various amounts. They also drop the occasional materials (none too interesting though) and have a few rare drops such as golem minis (I love these!).
My suggestion is to stay away from buying keys and to stockpile on the Matrices you get from dailies and salvaging ascended rings. I’ve made quite a bit of money that way.

Hope I helped!
(I found a way to make fractals profitable now, but I still find them uninspiring )

Roseblood.6793

You talk about bad reward with or without fractal masteries? Because I feel is good with them.

With, I farmed CoF to get the masteries. Which is another problem I have with fractals, they don’t give enough xp by far. You’d expect you can get at least one mastery by playing fractals, but after doing 3 runs I still only had about 10%.

My view on the new Fractals

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Roseblood.6793

So HoT also revamped the fractal system, a system they say they are planning to use over dungeons because it allows for more versatility. The new system reworked each level to contain a single island now and your daily chest is now given as a daily achievement.

Here are my thoughts:

  • I find the new system to be uninspiring.

I liked the randomness of fractals pre-patch, it forced me to do a few instances I didn’t like which made me appreciate the others a lot more. I also find the Mistlock instabilities to be boring as you get the same instability for like 10 different levels.

  • Unclear rewards

Every time you finish a fractal you get a few chests that you can only unlock using specific keys. each key is worth 20 silver and the stuff that comes out is usually some grey junk item. What’s the point of these chests? They were never explained before.

  • Salvaging of the ascended rings.

It’s soooo bloody expensive! 1g per ring is an incredible amount (at least for me). And what do we get? A single Stabilizing Matrix. What they’re used for? I assume the legendary, but other than that… I compare this to regular salvaging of items and they usually have more interesting drops than that. Salvaging rings only leads to those matrices, no exception (so far).

What I’d also like to point out is that I haven’t dropped a single ring since HoT has launched. Normally I’d expect them to appear in the daily chest but that has been replaced with a daily chest key. I really don’t get this….

/endrant

Well, here’s my my opinion on the current fractal system. Please tell me if I missed anything. I imagine fractals will feel a lot more rewarding once everything has been figured out, but until then it feels like a massive gold sink.

tl;dr: Fractals feel unrewarding and uninspired.

Fractal Instabilities

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Roseblood.6793

Roseblood.6793

Hiya, I would like to make a suggestion for fractals.
I support the idea that you can join higher level fractals even when you don’t have the level, it helps a lot even. But I don’t think we should be getting the Instability from that level. It makes it too easy to skip over some otherwise hard content.

So my suggestion is to base the Fractal Instability debuff on your personal reward level so that we all get to experience some of the hardships these instabilities have to offer. I find it sad that some fractal levels are totally ignored because they are easily skipped over. They just skip the challenging content and complain it is too easy.

Counter argument: People could sell higher level fractals to skip the unwanted instabilities.
True, but that wouldn’t be anything new. Level 50s are currently being sold quite often. I just want to promote the fact that everyone goes through the instabilities.

looking for Nerco Fractals Build

Roseblood.6793

Hiya, I’d like to share my own build that I use for fractals:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vRAQRBLRtG2IHN0SjV3gzNwfjDjhamCLQOQDioYIi/cAcAA-TxRFABCr+DAnEAiV+lwTAQQlgps/gv6HIFAMjtA-e

How it works:
* Use Blood is Power is combination with dagger 4 (4bleeds and 2 torment on enemy)
* Use Warhorn 5, Well of Suffering and then go DS 4 for burst of direct damage (plus bleeds on crit)
* Use Corrosive Poison Cloud (CPC) whenever you can. It’s really high dps. Weakness doesn’t affect condi damage.
* Combine Consume Condition with CPC for better heal.
* Cast Blood is Power and CPC and then plague to send all conditions to the enemy using the Curses Minor trait.
* Always cast scepters 2-3 whenever you can.

Some changes to the build I use:
* Change Well of Suffering with Well of Power, very useful when fighting the Legendary Shaman.
* Change Well of suffering with Plague Signet if you find dagger 4 isn’t enough to cleanse your condis.
* Use Pandemic when fighting bosses with loads of adds (Legendary Shaman for example)
* Swap traits: Lingering Curses with Parasitic Contagion when your party dies too fast. (lowers damage, but you’ll be incredibly tanky)
* If your group has the tendency to get downed, get Tranfusion (trait) instead of Vampiric Rituals. It’s a life safer for fractals such as Cliffside.

Other tips:
* Go DS when you try to heal a downed ally.
* Go DS when you fall into a ravine (chances are you will not get downed)
* Bosses that go invuln. are often not invulnerable to condis. Mossman and Shaman are good examples.

But most of all, try to have fun!

Roseblood.6793

Hiya,
I was wondering if we could get a slight animation change for the Corrosive Poison Cloud? Whenever I run level 50 fractals Guardians ALWAYS place their Walls of Reflection on top of it, it just isn’t visible enough.

My suggestion:
Make it have bright green glow on the edges that clearly define the area (it’ll look slightly more Spectral-y). It’d help us necros significantly.

PS: I really love the condi necro right now. I run full sinister scepter/dagger/warhorn and I feel like I finally contribute to the team

Spirits and Spirit Weapons

in Ranger

Posted by: Roseblood.6793

Roseblood.6793

Hiya,
I was wondering why we have the distinction between the two? The only clear difference is that the Ranger’s spirits are immobile and provide buffs, but that doesn’t seem like too much of a difference. Heck, the Reaper’s screams are going to have cast times and provide little to no group support.
I think it’d be interesting if these because the same skill type as I can see other classes use them as well (mainly Necro and Revenant). I’d love to see signets that improve them someday.
Just my opinion though.

Necromancer Appreciation Thread

Roseblood.6793

Hi there fellow Necromancers!
I just thought I’d start a thread of positive goodness in the midst of a sea of negativity (at least, it feels that way on Reddit/here). I get it, necros are gloomy bums that turned to the dark arts, always pessimistic about life and the outcasts of society (at least, that’s how I see the necromancer class, dead things are usually taboo in most cultures).
But does that mean we have to be negative about everything?

I just thought I’d give my appreciation to Robert Gee and the whole team that works on the necro as a whole!

I love the vampiric traits, they’re really cool! I often run it in dungeons and I feel like a boss.
I also love Reaper design. Sure, shouts seem somewhat odd considering they’ve got cast times, but I’d love to have more voices for my necro.
Transfusion is such a boss trait now, running it in WvW has helped me keep people alive countless of times.
This is old too, but I just love running condis. I’ve played condimancer for 2.5 years now and nothing is as satisfying as seeing a 5k bleeding tick (before the patch I had difficulty reaching even 3k ticks… too bad that the staff doesn’t help anymore )

Got anything you enjoy about the necro, just share it! Not everything has to be negative (although negative opinions are usually what attract people to the forums in the first place).

Classes related to player personality?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Roseblood.6793

This is a really cool idea
I suggest you take it to the GW2 reddit page though, it won’t get much attention here imo.
As for personality types, I main a necro and I have the tendency to try and dish out as much bleeding as I can while ignoring my own health bar. I like to think that I can prove everyone wrong and that Necros aren’t all that terrible at PvE. (Off course, sometimes people don’t give me the chance to do so…). I am also quite a fan of fiction where major characters are killed (queue GoT or Mortal Engines) and I tend to like non-dramatic love stories

Missing Skill Types

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Roseblood.6793

Roseblood.6793

Hiya,
I was wondering whether all classes will be receiving new baseline skills to fill certain gaps?
Anet made it a point that every specialization gets 1 heal, 4 utilities and 1 elite of the same skill type. Heck, most skill types follow this pattern (except engineers for some reason).
But there are some skills that don’t follow this pattern, like the necro not having an elite well or a healing spectral skill, etc etc
So I was just wondering if we were getting new skills for this or are these gaps going to stay there forever?

(A conjured weapon heal would be interesting )

Spectral Wall

in Necromancer

Posted by: Roseblood.6793

Roseblood.6793

Hi there,
I was wondering why Spectral Wall gives protection and not Stability?
It would be much more useful for party play and make a lot more sense as well. Necros play around with turning condis into boons and vice versa. The opposite of Fear is Stability, so it would make sense to me.
And it wouldn’t be stackable either, like, 1-2 stacks of stability for 4 seconds as you walk through. Gives the necro some group support (wanted one at least) and some much needed stability. I hate being a golf ball all the time…

That’seriously messed up. They’re forcing us to play with Chill with those minors. I can see their appeal, but please just make them adept traits?

Also, you say we should rush into the middle of a battle, but we have no way to mitigate damage apart from our Death Shroud. It’s already a problem as it is…

I was also hoping for some group support but then again, we got a whirl finisher now! (see trailer)

Roseblood.6793

The french version calls it the “Draconier”, which is kinda related to dragons, but it doesn’t actually have the word “dragon” in it. I like it much better
Also, why call it a Dragonhunter anyways? Chronomancer utilizes time as a mechanic, guardians specialize in defending and necromancers summon the dead. Does this mean that Dragonhunters will forever hunt dragons? It doesn’t explain their mechanics at all.
Hunter I can agree with, the dragon, no.

Back on topic:
I know some of my recommendations aren’t THE solution, but some of them would promote the use of something other than zerker gear. I would love to see the other gears used as much in the game as the rest. These were just some examples that’d promote this (also note that I didn’t mean to give all bosses these abilities, but I’d really like to see a dungeon where zerker gear just isn’t as viable as anywhere else )

Dungeons need love.

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Roseblood.6793

I have a few suggestions for dungeons that would promote more diverse builds than the current zerker meta.
1. A boss that is immune to direct damage but take twice the condi damage. (perhaps in combination with a boss that is immune to condis).
2. Some rooms applying so many conditions and strips so many boons that a designated support class is needed to keep the party alive. (This’d kill necros though…)
3. A boss that has an AoE hard hitting move (unavoidable) that would down any player without Vitality or Toughness in 1 move.
4. A boss that has hard hitting moves for immobile players? (much like some vine attacks in SW, but more potent)
5. A boss that drains Endurance, forcing players to take a hit from time to time.
6. A boss that takes damage from healing, a zombie of some kind.

There is so much potential that could end the Zerker meta, so many ways dungeons could become more fun and rewarding, but instead we’re mostly given champions with a bit more HP.
I could describe a really cool dungeon using various elements, but that’d probably fall on deaf ears so I’ll post these few ideas for now

Roseblood.6793

I don’t get Anet’s decision to avoid a new race at all.
I mean, end game is mostly about cosmetics. Heck, most of their revenue is from selling skins/outfits in the Gem Store. Adding a new race would open up a whole new line of cosmetics, and even veteran players are gonna invest time (and money) on giving them the looks they want.

Necromancers and Shouts

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Roseblood.6793

How do you know Banshee is the Necromencar elite specc?

We don’t, this is just a speculation thread. I believe it’ll happen because of the reasons I stated in the first post

Necromancer’s Banshee getting support shout is dumb.

  • I can understand Banshee getting Shouts.
  • I can understand Necromancers needing support.
  • I don’t understand Banshee using shouts to support allies.

It sounds dumb when a Banshee is yelling at their allies like, “YOU GO GET STRONGEEEER!!!!!”

A Banshee shout would be, “SCREEECH! I’M SHOUTING STUFF HERE TO SCARE YOUUUUU!!! SCREECCCHHH!!!!”

If Banshee gets shouts, It should be a CC spec, not a support spec.

I don’t see the necro shouting at all. For them to use words to direct phantoms/spirits, I can understand, but giving orders just seems odd. Like I said, necromancers are on the dark side of society so it’d be really odd for them to lead others. Heck, the reason for turning to necromancy is usually not a pretty one (like a dead mother/friend/cat).

Necromancers and Shouts

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Roseblood.6793

Roseblood.6793

That is indeed an interesting idea, to use shouts to communicate with spirits. Unlike the Revenant who channels spirits, the necro could use them to manipulate their surroundings…
But since shouts are usually insta-casts, I doubt that will be the case.

Necromancers and Shouts

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Roseblood.6793

Roseblood.6793

I was wondering what you guys think of this. The Specializations post said there was a class that would be getting Shouts with their new specialization and I believe the necro is the most likely class to get them.
Why? Because Warriors, rangers and guardians already have shouts (so they’re out of the question), thieves and elementalists don’t seem very leader-y (squishy and stealthy) and Mesmers were confirmed to get Wells. This leaves the shouts to either the Revenant, the Engineer or the necromancer. As Anet’s been building up the necromancer as a commander (See Trahearne), it seems VERY likely that the necro will get the shouts. It’d also give them group support (which they are currently lacking).

tl;dr
So I wanted to get your opinions on this, whether you’d like them to get the shouts and maybe some speculation as to what shouts we’re getting.

My opinion
I personally am of the opinion that shouts would NOT mix well with the necro because I imagine necros being reclus, social misfits and/or taboo. Their closeness to death would repulse many people, so it would not make sense to make them a commanding character. (I also see it as a waste of potential as Shouts are really basic skills that require little to no strategies to use. Only timing is key).

I had a similar problem, during the Lost Shores event. I was unable to acces my Necromancer at all and I was lucky that the Fractals of the Mists was a dungeon or else my ranger would have gotten stuck too. I got stuck on the loading screens as well.
After the event GW2 repaired itself on its own and I was able to access my necro again, but now she’s stuck again. I tried using the repair method described by Ashley, but it keeps crashing at “221,672 files remaining”.

Some notes:
– I’ve never had this issue before lost shores (I’ve been playing for over a month)
– I use a GeForce GTX 560 graphics card, it makes a lot of noise when I play gw2.
– My necromancer appears to be the only one with this problem right now
– I saw this in another thread, I do not overclock.

Hope I can get some help on this issue…

I have been having crashing problems ever since the start of the Lost Shores event.
I am unable to enter the Rata Sum map (my necromancer is stuck on the loading screen) and I also cannot access the Fractales of the Mist dungeon.

At first I assumed it was because of the huge amount of lag around that time, but even now, when it is a lot less crowded, I still crash every time. Thus I looked throughout my computer, deleted unnecessary programs and ran a defragmentation on my disks, with no results. So I was wondering if others are having this problem and if it can be fixed on my end.

Thanks in andvance.
