I agree. This is why I would prefer a sub. Paying those 15 bucks a month and being sure that the devs are working to make the game better and fun, instead of creating the next bunny ears in the cash shop. If the game is poor, I simply stop paying.

There used to be some great MMO’s with subs. Not one of those games was working against you. Because that’s how I feel about GW2. I’m playing against the game and not the content.

I wish I could agree with you, but subs games are duplicitous too.

Usually a sub game or sub player offers a couple different justifications for the sub price – premium content or increased quantity of content, and inclusivity; ie that rewards are all included ‘in game’ for the sub price.

Neither of those is true nowadays.

Take WoW – a nine month hiatus on ‘content’ before the release of it’s Cataclysm expansion, and currently what is it – 8 months and on-going? before the release of it’s next. Subscription prices are ongoing during all of that time; you also don’t receive any kind of discount for the expansion prices for paying a sub for all those content-less months.

There’s no sub game that releases more content objectively than many of the f2p/b2p games out there. As for premium quality, that’s subjective but .. let’s just say that I’d lean towards content being of a relatively evenish quality between sub and f2p/b2p games.

As for inclusivity of content for the sub price – don’t make me laugh; sub games sell services and special items in their cash shops too. No such thing.

I’m not even going to get into the topic of how subscriptions can force a game to be designed with deliberate and meaningless timesinks.

So.. take it all together, and what do you get for your sub fee? Bupkiss aside of access, which most games – not even MMOs only! – include for free to their multiplayer.

The difference between a sub MMO and cash-shop MMO is not about which one has more contents. In a sub MMO, the focus is the design of attractive contents that satisfies the player’s demands (hardcore or casual) to keep those subscribers happy. In a cash-shop MMO is goal is to design contents around the cash-shop items and sell more gems. Both models work can work great IMO, but don’t have the same expectations from a cash-shop MMO compared to a sub.

The difference between a sub MMO and a B2P MMO is that the sub MMO only lets you roll for loot once a week. That’s how they make their moneyz.

…And B2P MMO such as GW2 doesn’t have any loot or time restrictions?

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/crafting/Remove-time-gate-in-Ascended-crafting/first#post3353316

Not nearly as obnoxious as the weekly lockouts that sub games employ. Weekly lockouts to get a chance at your loot dropping, then another chance on top of that maybe you’ll win the loot roll. If someone doesn’t ninja it of course.

Meanwhile in FFXIV: Child lalafell:“daddy what are those other games arguing about?” adult lalafell:“things that do not concern us son for we do not have any of these problems”

and for people who dont know FFXIV is a sub game so yeah…….saying that all sub games get it wrong is not true……..

Customers that quit are infinitely harder to reclaim than it is to retain customers considering leaving. Makes me question why people would think they’d give more than a passing thought as to why people left instead of giving more considering to the reasons people are considering leaving.

As its been previously stated – the reasons the OP and/or other people that have left recently directly coincide with those that are thinking of leaving soon themselves.

Accurate, but does not address the issue of reclaiming that user. Fixing something that player A has an issue with but hasnt yet quit playing means that, because it’s fixed while they’re still playing they dont stop, and Anet doesnt need to do anything aside from put in the patch notes “hey, we fixed this, thought you should know.” Fixing something that player B had an issue with and quit because of it means that aside from fixing the issue, Anet now has to go through the painful process of getting that player back to the game, and that involves dealing with a player who may have decided to step away from the game 100%, regardless of any changes made to fix what they found wrong with it. It’s wasted effort, even if player A and player B are dealing with the exact same issue. Sure they’ll fix the issue, they’ll simply not make the choice to go through all of that effort to reclaim player B.

are you not paying ANY attention? fixing player B’s issue might not bring them back to the game however it might stop player C and D from leaving too if they had the same problem player B had, fixing player As issue is also a priority but slighly lower because player a is only THINKING about leaving, player bs issue actually cause them to LEAVE so that should be focused on first to prevent more people from leaving

Because figuring out the reason customer A left could help keep customer B interested longer?

ok but yeah to continue on topic here: i agree that gw2 is lacking memorable moments, only claw island and the fire effigy boss in flame citadel, and only because we were playing mostly PUG and we almost wiped, only i was left and i somehow managed to revive everyone and kill the boss all with the gurren lagann theme playing, it was simply awesome

Everyone seems to be missing the underlying reason behind this post and other well thought out complaint posts.

People don’t want to quit playing GW2.

They post in hopes of changing the games direction/adding what would make the game have more value for their time.

Now, at the end of the day, it’s still just a game – but is what you’re doing in GW2 today, worth you coming back tomorrow to play again?

I ‘quit’ Rift a few months after its first release. Now I’m playing it again since its free. So while someone can say they ‘quit’ gw2, unless I see a video of them deleting all their characters, then they plan on coming back at some point. Until then, its not quitting, its ‘taking a break’.

i DID delete all my characters back in 2012, i did quit the game because it was boring me, i come back and find that not much has changed and a few things were messed up (imo as a gw1 fan i don’t like ascended as a concept) but im trying to get back in because im hoping that we might get some new awesome content soon……..i mean 2 years without much perma content is really bad for a recent mmo

Suggestion:customizable ui?

This has been a requested feature since beta – don’t see it happening.

Or…

Change your UI packs now at BLTC. Only 1500 Gems.

With that, we might see it happen.

ok yeah change my suggestion to this, anet sure do love ripping people off- er giving them incentive to buy gems so it might work

Sorry guys, but any customer-centered business must care about what causes customers to quit buying (or playing) their product.

[…]

Sincerely,
Stevizard

+1

When I was working for another MMO running studio, that company was ignorant for insights light these.
They basically didnt care about what anyone said if he wasnt a high paid suit, where most of them hadnt even a clue about the product itself, but had some fancy job titles and nice boards in theirs offices with some monetization statistics on it.

Trying to explain or convince them to listen to what their customers had to say even it wasnt a lawsuit was, despite all the internal and external smoke screen PR (where most of the revenue vanished in to anyway), like talking to a brick wall.
It was really weird because to me it seemed most of them just didnt want to understand whats going on, because they would have to step ‘out of line’.
They preferred to stay in their office ‘doing their job’, watching the ship sink and grabbing on what they can get.
I dont know, but thats the impression I got. And I saw the numbers, every working day.

Well, the best description about what happened next would be….a crash landing with many casualties beginning of course on the “lower end”….poor buggers.

If a company reaches a certain size, loosing touch with the basics is its biggest treat.

Anet seems to have reached that tipping point somewhere in between GW and GW2 with an integrated accelerator it seems.

To be fair, I probably should swap Anet with NCsoft.

Basically the same thing can be read at the Glassdoor page of ArenaNet too, which is what makes me so indifferent.

I’ve never seen a company come out of this. The world is changing. Customers are more self-aware, the smoke screens are becoming smaller and smaller relative to the size of the internet. There isn’t really enough money out there to lie so effectively anymore. For a while, maybe, but its becoming increasingly inefficient. Maybe that’s why a lot of companies just don’t care anymore and just want to grab as much money as they can while they still can. Nobody actually wants to provide a service anymore. It’s too much of a hassle.

I read lately a quote from somewhere, I don’t know what it was. It was that the first company which comes out and starts behaving like a normal person will become incredibly rich and well received.

Customers are growing tired of BS.
They see the BS better, and that sight isn’t going anywhere. And their mouths are not as open yet as they could be, but their wallets are closing sooner.

The first person who realizes that and gambles on honesty becomes incredibly rich.

First dev who comes here and says “You know what? You are right. Here’s what’s going on in the company now:” and lay out everything will be revered by the community and everyone will fight for him. The gamer community would kickstarter fund a guy like that up to buying up the entire company. And that’s probably not even a joke.

We need also UI-check then, so we know who has to be kicked for using the wrong UI as soon as some of the wiser players made clear what the current meta-UI is

sigh all right, fine if you dont want to be mature about this i’ll just show myself out, you people are why im having trouble sticking with this game, cant even listen to one simple suggestion

Would customizable ui possibly be a thing in the future? i mean this as an in game thing because the ui is hampering the fun i am having with the game as it is just not practical, i would at the very least like the option to rotate, resize and move it and i think others would too, now again before i get banned for this i would remind you it is just a suggestion………..a suggestion that has been whispered by fans to you for months……….ok years but yeah just saying it was in gw1 so maybe consider adding it to gw2? please?

hah! incoming lock, i never directly insulted you mods, just stated what happens whenever someone brings this up, and it is going to happen with this thread too
