@ bel geode: i hear alot of people talking about running Memtest when facing blue screens. Might be worth a try. Have no experience with it myself but Google is your best mate here….
Bel Geode.8129 this is programers problem not you system
eehm blue screen is more likely to be an issue with failing memory or possibly other hardware problems. Where are you getting all this wisdom?? It seems that you’re pissed at ANet but not everything is their doing mate, just saying. Now for the black screen… that could be something on Anet’s side but who knows ey. I would like people to check something. you probably did this already but just to eliminate that possibility: Check your windows update, especially if its set to automatic. I had same issue a while back and it was because a NET framework update failed on me (NET framework 3.5. sumthing). Crazy stuff happened, black screens and then a redownload of entire program wich failed again and again. Complete lockups and that message about damaged files…. After redoing that one update everything was back to normal. And it still is. I am in no way a PC techboy, just a fairly decent troubleshooter… ( you learn alot when trying to run games on a low end laptop, maybe dead end even ) I do not understand how important this framework is and havent had time to read up on it, but again this just me trying to help…. The only blue screens i ever saw was when i was messing about with Nvidia tools to buff up my t4400 2.2 Ghz. Got it running at 2.53 for a day but one day later it became quite unstable loool
@ visceral & beerbash.
I’ve had a lock up issue also. It was after some windows Netframework updates failed.
version 3.5 i think. It kept locking up my entire system, even when the database repairing thing started. Redid those updates and poof problem solved. It is something to be looked at by Anet i think. My connection got way more stable after that and with that my framerate. Still cant go near the Zerg in Wvw but thats not surprising since my system is minimum. Many people are like, yeah overheating or memory failure but for me that just wasn’t the case.
I get 30 fps average while questing, around 20 fps while questing with a group of about 10 players. WvW is the same unless i get near the zerg. It’s like 1 frame every 2 seconds… :p and also, i have been to lion’s arch and did not experience significant drops. I do have them occasionally when entering a cave, building or right after a cutscene. But not evey time. (confuzzling isn’t it?)

Ow and about the “invest in better hardware” i know you are trying to help but if the issue only happens with one game it is a bit fast to throw money at it. Game isn’t even out for one month…. May i suggest playing something else until stuff gets cleared up.
I mean how many posts are there from people with new rigs getting same old issues. What would be better, putting this game away for a month (or 2) or swapping hardware and later finding out that it wasn’t necessary. I know that some people may have flawed hardware but not all of them. This happened with SWTOR also. I find it hard to believe that hundreds of people suddenly turned clueless overnight and there systems instantly reduced to rubble. Also the amount of people only having issues right after a patch is confusing (im talking about freezing and not the FPS thing)
I do have to agree with Genezilla and MDK in a way that you have to eliminate the possibility of your rig being the problem. My issues were caused by faulty windows update, would have been really embarassing if i had first posted rants and “F this game” threads, only to find out it was on my side It’s to easy to yell “Anet your kitten is wack, fix asap”. We are all trying to help each other out here right? Just keep your hand on your wallet a couple of weeks longer mate :p

I had a freeze issue when downloading an update. But for me it was a day after i finally got windows 7 SP1 and a bunch of other critical updates. I noticed that all my NETframework updates failed so i redid those and also got an optional driver update
for my wireless network device. This fixed my problems. Someone else tried is and it didnt fix his though… but im throwing this out there because maybe it will help one of you. And have you tried the other possible fixes mentioned in other threads?
And i just wanna say this btw.
Am i wrong or are there 2 major problems right now?
1 is the fps mayhem, but i there is also the freezing/not updating thing.
And i see people giving the same solutions to both, wich in many cases could work.
But i wonder if these issues have different causes. This freezing could be network related i mean. I may sound dumb and all but it got me thinking. So for the guys with actual computer knowledge, don’t flame if i’m being stupid just trying to help
Hi there,
I checked nvidia update site and the update you mention does support the gtx260
http://www.nvidia.com/object/win8-win7-winvista-64bit-304.79-beta-driver.html
it doesnt say that the M version is supported. Unless you got it twisted and you mean that you have the M version??
Follow my link ( it doesn’t have “notebook” in it)
Hi there, can you maybe check your update log to see if any windows parts failed? And look at NETframework updates. Maybe you already did this but i was having an issue alot like yours and redoing those failed updates fixed it. I also did an optional update for my wireless network device. Don’t wanna get your hopes up, just trying to help out. good luck mate
Alpha has a good idea
I’ve had an issue this week while downloading the latest update. My laptop crashed.
But the day before that i finally did a windows update and got like 133 critical updates, incl. Service Pack 1 and the latest NETframework. So i thought the issue could be in the updates. I checked the log and all the NETframework updates had failed. So i tried those again (version 3.5.something…) including an optional update for my wireless network device, and this time they installed properly. This fixed my issue and
even got the client to download faster and more stable o_0 (didnt do nuthin for me framerate though, but thats not a surprise since my rig blows 30 fps average pve and slideshow WvW :p
So just check them out, update them and who knows it may work. Never hurts to try right?
I’m usually pretty up2date with drivers and all, but windows update was bugged. Something with “update awareness”. and since i have little time to sit behind my laptop, i prefer to use the time playing a game instead of looking at an updatescreen for 2 hours…. but i fixed it this week so thats why i just have sp1 and the frameworkthingy installed. It never gave any issues until the failed updates, before that everything ran fine actually…
Hope kitten gets cleared up soon though, ive had my issues with swtor so i feel your pain.
You all need to get playingkitten/p>
edit… i did not use the word kitten… o wait i was foulmouthing and it got censored looool
Man.. page 2 already lol,
Man.. page 2 already lol,I seem to have fixed the issue. I checked the update logs and something went wrong whit installing NETframework 3.5 or something… tried them again and added an update for my wireless network device. All installed wothout problems and now the client is downloading again. And with pretty good speed 2, getting 4 MB/s per second.
So slap a lock on this and call it a day. Off to work now, Goodnight
Hello,
First of all wanna say that i enjoy this game a lot. First mmo in a while that lives up to my expectations and without a sub yay….
I have tried the search option and got some topics that adressed lockups but mine is a bit different i think, here it goes.
I had issues with windows updates, they didnt work anymore so last night i decided to look into it further. Got the issue solved and had about 133 important updates waiting…. so i left my laptop on when i went to work the nightshift. I got home this morning and
updates where finished. So i went to play GW2 wich had been running fine for a couple of days. But it needed to update first. Then i thought of a way to increase fps wich ive read here, wich was disabling hardware acc. on youtube. i go to youtube and click on a video and “freeeeeeeeze”… done… needed to pull the plug and restart. Then i tried to open GW2 again and it said something about repairing a database. Bar went halfway and again the whole comp froze. restart again, this time no repair but installer started to redownload the entire game. Got to 1% and froze again.
So now i am in a bit of a pickle here I checked windows error report and the first lock up was due to a video hardware error. Ther are no issues with my GPU when doing something else. So my bet is it has something to do with windows 7 SP1, wich was part of the update, because problems started after that. Strange thing is that i can do everything except re-install GW2, because when i try laptop freezes again.
No BSOD just lockup.
So does any1 know of known issues with SP1 an GW2? perhaps the service packs did something to my network settings wich is why it does no longer allow GW2 to install?
I tried the clean install and got the firewall message to re-add the client to my trusted list but it still crashed.
I have done a clean GPU driver install
I cant use the client repair thingy because its not on my harddrive…
I have tried running the client setup as an adminstrator, didnt change anything.
Problems started after windows update so i think the answer lies there. I can roll back to before the updates but thats not really a viable option since i want my stuff up to date. So any1 who has an idea, thanks in advance…
Systemspecs: (yeh there bottom of the barrel, but i got this game, SWTOR, Tera and The Secret World running pretty stable so far. GPU tends to break a sweat though. Not surprising since it cooks up to a whopping 100 degrees celsius, but new rig is in the making. I can squeeze about 30 fps averge outta this old craptop, only WvW is a freakin slideshow)
