Guild Wars 2 is a slowly sinking ship, that is attempting to fix the problem by throwing marshmallows at the leak.

They need to bulk up the game with something more sturdy, or this bridge will collapse.

Show me your proof, then I will listen. All I hear is this. I heard this a year ago, before they removed the LoD limiter. People cried because “the game is dying! I don’t see anyone on my maps anymore!”. Then the LoD was changed, and holy crow There’s people everywhere. I hardly see a time when there’s not people everywhere, not just peak hours.

[/quote]

They added megaservers so of course your gonna see people everywhere but before then most parts of the game was a ghost town…

An Xpac is SUPPOSED to make a game feel new again, give us a fresh experience on the world we already seen without changing the core mechanics of what makes the game great (something the living story just cant do from what i seen so far).

I’ma just be clear on this one NO ONE from the people i seen quit GW2 since launch are excited to come back because of a “living world” but i’ll bet you at least half of those people would be the first in line to pre order a GW2 Xpac if it showed the right content. The game is starting to get stale and small portioned content that could be completed in about 40 min every 2 weeks isn’t gonna cut it for the longevity of GW2.

This entire thread is off topic since Guild Wars 2 on a console is like ordering a Big Mac at Pizza Hut.

Why do you think that??

Was gonna stop responding to this thread since it seems that majority of guys here don’t even want it. But anyway my 450 dollar Toshiba LAPTOP was running on Guild Wars 2 at around 15-20 fps during WVWVW and 30 FPS at all other times on those settings and it was running an amd apu a8 series which clocks at about 1.6 ghz each core (quad core). It seems like you are vastly underestmating what next-gen consoles and developers could do on those systems.

As was i but you missed the point again. Yes the devs can do a lot on those systems but they still cant just magically wave a wand and instantly make something that is gonna run well and provide the same performance. Your CPU actually runs at 2,3 or 2,5GHz with turbo on, the console chip has no such thing from what was revealed.

And did i ever say this port would be a bad things? Do you even read my posts? I said this could potentially be a very good thing even for us on PC as better multi core and just general optimization would do the game good.

Yes but they wouldn’t need a complete remake of their engine to run on consoles just alot of modifications as to what i said before. As for the last sentence of my post it wasn’t targeted at you but basically the way most people on this thread seem to have negative emotions towards the console audience for whatever reason.

This game would be great on the console market you have no idea how much people would be willing to play this but can’t because WVWVW and other events where a lot of players gather is to taxing on their measly pc. I seriously had to buy a 1.5 thousand dollar gaming laptop(im at college so desktop is not an option) to be able to run WVWVW on GW2 at high settings.

I don’t get it … buying a 1.5k laptop is an option, buying a 1k xbox+tv is an option. Buying a 600€ desktop system isn’t?

WvW isn’t something you want to do on a laptop on high settings. That is simply not meant to be.

Gonna ignore the first paragraph because that will be me basically trying to explain my own PERSONAL information as to why I don’t have a desktop right now so i’m going leave it at that.

I’ve been a student too, and I just accepted that I couldn’t play MMOs on high settings with a laptop. Also, I wouldn’t have spent 1500 euros on a laptop if I could spend half on a pc with monitor, and half on a decent school notebook. That’s just the way I’d have done it. That’s why I’m curious.

On the other hand i play WVWVW at 30-40 fps on high settings on my laptop with it easily going above 60fps if i wanted to lower the settings a bit. You could say"it’s not meant to be" but yet i do it so…

Ye sure but what temperatures do you have? Are you sure you’ll be able to have kids in 5 years? Will you buy a new laptop in 2 years when this one 100% guaranteed burns down?
Personally I’d have gone with lower graphics but sure, to each his own. I would never, ever recommend laptops for games. Extremely high end computer hardware is my day job btw.

Yes because i have my laptop running on my lap all the time right? Like i said it’s for personal reason’s I tend to travel on my off time and in the coming months i’m not gonna be home or at College for a career i really want to pursue so yea. On the other hand your getting completely off topic this isn’t a thread about why i use my laptop.

It doesn’t matter what PC users don’t want, what matters is what console users want. If it’s coming for PS4 it’s not the PC users vote who counts but the console users. It seems like most PC users are ignorant and selfcentered. “CONSOLES SUCKS OMFG release GW2 for PS4 and i keeel youu!!”, more mature than a 12 year old.

Yes it is true but i understand where most are coming from after you spend time building your own PC it’s really hard to look at console gamer’s the same way. I made this thread hoping for some rational answers and so far i’m really not surprised at some of the comments PC gamers are coming up with. Not to say they aren’t rational but just.. (not in a bad way) typical.

That would be on probably the highest settings… most likely if it ever happens the game would run at 720p/ with GW2 on low/medium settings running at 60fps which is no dealbreaker. Planestide 2 one of the most demanding games on the PC is coming to the PS4 so GW2 really shouldn’t be a problem spec wise.
Anyway yea sure GW2 might never come i’m just saying their is a possibility.

You know nothing of multithreading, the GW2 engine and everything else on this matter. Ps2 scales far better with lower settings than GW2 and even so SOE will also have to do (or already did) a lot of work on their engine for the PS4 unless they drastically lower the quality of the game.
Solutions like “lowering the res” and “putting the settings on medium” wont solve the problem which again (for the blind) is single core dependency. Not to mention all the other differences between the consoles OS and Windows at which point you might as well do it proper – from scratch.

Indeed GW2 isnt even properly optimized for most PCs as it is too demanding on single thread CPU performance.
And as far as the current console gen is concerned – hell no. Ever heard of programming for the Cell CPU? Or trying to fit things into 512MB of memory? Nothing is impossible but the result would be ugly (GW1 level of GFX) and not worth the investment.

Rewrite their entire engine from scratch??? No like stated by someone else on this thread the Next Gen of consoles are using PC like Hardware so porting it would only require a few modifications to the engine like UI, Controller Support and handling the consoles OS that is it. I bet Anet could pull this off withought even making this game Consolized just by modifying the GW2 UI for the consoles seperately.

Sure… and the game would run at 10 FPS since the main thread would run at 1,6GHz instead of 3+.

If they really had to do this, like TESO is going to do it, you have to get those console players a seperate server. I know a lot of Console Players, most of them are either children (10-12 There is seriously a 11 year old child in my school playing Halo) or kittened. A small amout is normal, but I switched to the PC years ago for a reason, and I don’t want this filthy rats in my genre.

Like i said already it clearly depends on the game and how the dev shapes how they want the community to be. Anet done an EXCELLENT job at community building when it comes to GW2 so that really wouldn’t be a problem.

After seeing the next get console specs they would probably have to rewrite the entire engine from scratch since it is way too single core dependant. Not that it would be a bad thing, quite the opposite since it could help the PC version as well. However IMO the odds of that happening are close to 0.

yeah, i want to see people trying to beat pc-gamers in a shooter with their kitten xbox. honestly, this will never become reality

Guild Wars 2 isn’t a shooter…

Perhaps if they created PS4 specific servers, that PC players could guest on (but PS4 players couldn’t guest on the PC servers), it could help alot with allieviating problems with slow patching or engine upgrades being held back by the PS4 version – afterall we already know it’s possible to remain on a previous version of the game for a while after a patch (Dungeons gives you 3 hours for example before forcing you to update), so they would just need to extend that system.

The PC players would still be able to guest to play with their PS4 friends, but wouldn’t have their own optimal choice of server and anything patch-related be held back by the console players and the slow patch cycles for those systems.

Alot of The Next- Gen console games are becoming MMO like games see Destiny and Tom Clany’s Divide. Most Dev’s already said that they are now able to patch games more seamless now in next gen.

I don’t mind GW2 being available for consoles. The only negative point I see is for PvP, since obviously playing with mouse+keyboard is way better than a joystick… so they would probably need separate servers for PvP.

a KB/M is only better with a Joystick for Shooter’s/MOBA/RTS/MMORPG’s like WOW.Fighting games,Hack and slash,Platformer are way easier to use with a controller. I already said it shouldn’t be to hard to implement a controller to the mix.

Looking at the games systems I don’t think this title would survive on the console market, the environment there is alot harsher than the pc market both in the community and getting content out there, I last I heard microsoft charges a ridiculous amount for any content patches publishers apply and sony will prob have a similiar system, it is probably why Diablo 3 is a more or “closed” off to prevent the mass amount of patches that would be added.
It wouldn’t seem profitable and this game’s engine is far too old to be able to compete with modern game titles.

I don’t feel like responding to everyone as some of you already brought up the same points i previously responded to.

Isn’t the mac client still in beta? i wouldn’t hold your hopes up for console versions..

Just asking you guys your opinions on the possibility of it coming out believe me i know it would take a long time.

On the other hand, inclusion of a next-gen client could, and would, enable PC users to have consolized control set-ups.

With the current rate of in-game development, I’d say that if it would be plausible, it would take a pretty long while to implement.

I’d say two or three years if Anet wants to but yea i never really been comfortable with a M/KB set up since i’ve grown up as a console gamer so i would love controller support for GW2.

From a business stand point, it would be good. Opening the game to consoles would bring in more revenue. However, my own personal experience in playing a computer game with console players has not been fun. Console players seem to have a certain mindset that just doesn’t sit well with me. I play the game to have fun and the few times I’ve played a game with mixed players I just did not enjoy my time at all. Everything turned into a competition. Just not for me. However, that is just my opinion / experience.

I kinda agree but it all comes down to the game and the community i mean look at the MOBA genre that’s one of the harshes people you can meet online because it ENCOURAGES competitve play and if your not up to snuff people are gonna get kitten ed over it. Guild Wars 2 on the other hand encourages teamwork and the importance of the community(with the exception of the pvp aspect)

If they’d have the same servers for both. They could make console servers. It would make more sense than adding servers to the PC version.

Yea they would either have to expand their existing servers(because of WVWVW) or create a whole different batch just for the console users.

Well, even without the million skillbars like wow, I feel like making GW skills (10) + dodge playable on a joypad might be difficult. Especially targeting and Camera in PvP etc. On the other hand, I would finally be able to dodge without breaking my fingerns (R1 or so ) Not really good at those kind of stuff on keyboards.

Never really played DCUO on the PS3 but from what i heard it’s more played then its PC counterpart and it has only one hotbar like in GW2 so it shudn’t be to hard.

So by now im sure some of you have seen E3 and with some PS4 and xbox one games supporting MMO’s like Planetside 2, FF14 etc. Do you think it’s possible or cool for Guild Wars 2 to come to these platforms? I mean from a business standpoint it would open up a huge audience and the Guild Wars 2 skill system doesn’t use like 5 hotbars like in WOW or other traditional RPG’s so it would be kinda cool to see Anet release something like that.
I’d like to hear you guys opinions on this.

Fractals [Merged]

It’s an interesting combination of ‘stuff’ but really a mixed bag. The Jellyfish really was just a ridiculous spamfest with a boss with way too much health and not enough real sense of danger or strategy needed besides swim in circles and click skills.

The Dredge fractal ending with the Legendary Rampaging Ice Elemental broke our team’s spirits though. That fight was either bugged or just foolishly difficult. It’s one thing if you can only hurt him when he’s dripping with hot oil, but to have him fully regen as soon as he cools was a bit of a kick in the boys. Particularly when he would tend to stop and sit down for a while during the fight (giving just enough time for the superheated thing to wear off). Despite our best efforts we couldn’t dent him and gave up after 20+ minutes of total futility.

yea this is a boss fight tht requires tight communication with your team or it could be very frustrating but me and my group had a great time finally being able to take him out, a small hint tho is that even thought interrupts may not stop his regen completlely it does slow it down a bit so knowing when to use interupts is a must in this fight.
