I’ve noticed an unsettling amount of times lately as I’ve been farming Silverwastes for a portal that a number of my ranger longbow attacks do not seem to be registering. Enemies are within range and unobstructed, and I can visually see the arrow strike them. No evade, block, out of range, obstruction, or any other form of combat message appears when this occurs. Checking the combat log shows that despite the visual of the arrow striking, no damage was incurred. This can be a significant loss of DPS, especially when it happens during a rapid fire. Has anyone else experienced this at all?
The skins offered by completing living story meta-achievements are quite interesting and lovely things. Many people enjoy them quite a great deal and (if I’m not mistaken) all of them are account-bound skins. My suggestion is simple; Add these meta achievement skins to the renewable unlocked rewards on the achievements tab. These skins offer no statistical advantage, nor do they offer monetary gains. As purely aesthetic items that can only be gained by completion of the meta achievement they already are much akin to skins available through renewable methods such as Hall of Monuments or the AP reward Zenith weapon skins and Hellfire/Radiant armour skins. This way allows for players to worry less about which character gets that neato Slickpack or venture out in the world protected from pesky poisons with their all new Gasmask.
Overall I think that this would be a valuable new addition to the existing unlockable achievement rewards system. People would be less wary about using their skins on one character and be able to enjoy and show off these wonderful looking additions more and more!
The first year of an MMO will always face market fluctuations in the in-game economy. Part of this is due to players finding unique and unexpected methods of playing the system to maximize returns on any of their investment, whether it real money, gold, crafting materials, etc etc. The market takes time and does stabilize however. The primary reason for the gems like so many have stated is as a method of cash inflow to supplement for lack of subscription fees. Arenanet has done well in making everything gem-based cosmetic or non-game breaking. Services such as name changes, server transfers, and so on have always traditionally been pure cash services in MMO’s, and even allowing for the use of ingame currency as an option to players was a generous choice on their part.
That said, let’s compare the current gem market with a smaller scale MMO that is still fairly recent. Three Ring’s Spiral Knights (SK) worked on a similar platform, allowing players to transfer ingame currency for crystal energy (CE), which in turn was used for resurrections, gear crafting, and dungeon exploration after the daily usage of mist energy. In the early days of the release of SK, crystal energy would commonly see buy orders as low as 3500 crowns per hundred units, crowns being the ingame currency. Crowns in these early stages were scarce, CE was available from fresh players eager to amass early fortunes and with deep wallets and so there was little worry at the time. As those early riches were attained though, and the playerbase generated more crowns, the cost of CE would grow slowly every few weeks by a few hundred crowns. As the playerbase shrunk and fewer suppliers of CE remained, it begun to rise quite dramatically, almost doubling in value. People panicked and wondered just how far it would rise as prices of 8000 and 9000 crowns per 100 CE were viewed. The market however began to stabilize after this dramatic rise. For months now, CE has been levelled off at a value of 7.5k crowns per hundred CE. Is this the ideal cheap price we initially had? Absolutely not. Is the price rising further into unobtainable reaches? Again, absolutely not. This is not perfectly reflective of GW2, which boasts a much larger playerbase and uses for the paid premium currency that are different from SK, but is something to take into consideration.
As the playerbase stabilizes, and methods of gold generation become more stable, the market will in turn reflect this. We will at some point see Gems tapering off at a price higher than what we were used to in the first few months of release, but likely never to a point where we have 1g=1gem. Economies are not formed overnight, and very much of the Guild Wars 2 economy is still working towards that stabilization.
Cleared the entire gauntlet on my ranger with little to no trouble to be honest. Liadri was the only boss that gave me a hard time, but who doesn’t have a hard time on her? You need to pick and choose very carefully skills and pets for the gauntlet, some builds like zerker can breeze through it but others cannot. The wolf can be very helpful for example on fights such as Subject 7, and Strugar and Chomper for the AoE fear.
Pets are useless in Liardri yes, that is not something I will argue, but the ranger class can be a very very mobile class that allows for very useful kite/dodge tactics if you trait yourself accordingly. The Gauntlet is designed to push you as a player to figure out the ins and outs of your class and maximize your efficiency in a wide range of scenarios. The sole fight I would argue is stacked against rangers is Liadri, but that is not even impossible just difficult. The rest of the gauntlet is not.
Did it on a warrior, I actually managed to get her to 25% twice with an under geared lvl 40 warrior. It was tough though and so I opted to try it again after levelling to 80. Mostly berserker gear though I had just hit 80 and did not have many exotics.
I was traited for 0/20/15/20/15, and used only a rifle. Rifle melee cleared off orbs and I kept to circle strafing for the duration of the fight with almost constant swiftness thanks to my signet of rage and trait allocations.
You are kidding me, right? If something like that happens to me I either kill them or leave and join another game. Reporting people for killing you over and over while it is legal to kill you ( over and over ) is just lame. This game is about killing, not about being nice to eachother. Personally I don;t hunt people when they kill me but I see no reason to blame them for hunting me. It’s what they CAN do.
If you read more closely you would see that I did not report them for their actions but the verbal abuse that they paired up with it. Messaging others with comments that are nothing but offensive insults with very very offensive language even after the game is over is well beyond simply hunting others.
What did you do that made you such a target?
In worst experience I had, I had scored the game winning kill off someone with a headshot. They proceeded to kill me and only me in every subsequent game until I quit, following me directly out of spawn with either pistols or swords.
I ended up reporting them for verbal abuse after I hid in the shark infested waters to deny them the satisfaction of killing me themselves which prompted them to use very offensive terms for me.
Southsun survival is a very cutthroat game mode, that is the entire basis for the idea. Pitting player vs player in an ultimate show of survival skills is sure to shed blood and cause a want for revenge. The ghost system of course, is designed to give players a chance for revenge as well as hasten the length of the matches.
But I’ve noticed that players in this game mode more than others end up applying very abusive tactics throughout the game. I can’t enjoy Southsun Survival anymore, not because flaws with the game mode itself but rather a select few players who make it unpleasant.
More than once I’ve found players focusing less on the game mode and more on ruthlessly stalking and killing me specifically round after round after round. Surely I cannot be the only person who has had these forms dirty cherry-picking tactics used on them. When I offer no resources to the people who kill me and they still follow me for as long as it takes to ensure of my death, no matter the cost to them, that is blatant enough that the player wishes to make the game as unpleasant as possible for others.
Some have even go so far as to whisper me with offensive remarks, insulting me as a player which is above and beyond simply playing the game. One player ignored a target with 9 rations and no traps or arrows who was beside them simply just to wait for me to come out of the shark infested waters I had taken refuge in. The entire time she waited, she used offensive terms to insult me as a player.
I don’t expect justice to be done beyond the report I filed of verbal abuse on this player, but I just would like to know if this has ever happened to other players out there. It’s a true shame that a few bad apples can spoil the bushel, but because of these abusive tactics, I no longer have any desire to play Southsun Survival.
bout time we heard some news..might i suggest you fix bugs first before adding this so called living world content, content thats mostly designed for higher lvls which lowers get boosted in lvls but thats about it..can barely get the rep points fot the rewards offered and by the time we do..the event / content is done and never will be on again..sucky strat tbh.
Wish i never bought this game
But this IS Living World Content! Some Bookah in charge of the Asura Portal decided he just wanted to watch the world burn by redirecting all foot-traffic from the labs to jail. Surely our next Living World Patch will be the Retaking of Rata Sum, in which all Asuran Portals lead to the wrong places and it’s up to YOU to find your way to Portal control!
In all seriousness though, I spend my days now staring longingly across the waters from Dawnside Quay at the labs, praying that one day I will visit their esteemed halls and incubate my ideas of playable Tengu and Get-Rich-Quick Schemes. At least one of those involves a team of Quaggan Pro-Hustlers….

Reposting here as people don’t seem to check out the bug report threads as much as Living Story despite this being a bug.
As of this post, Crab Toss is still broken. Just popped in now to check and managed to even fill crabtacular requirements. No achievements, no progress on crab grabber and crab carrying.
I contacted Support on this and and had a short back and forth with them, first getting the standard “Please report this on the forums or in a bug report.” response. I informed support that I had gone through the standard bug support procedures but due to the timed and thus delicate nature of the problem, I was concerned by lack of communication on the problem through any of Arenanet’s normal communication channels. Support responded as below (slightly reformatted to fit the spoiler).
Thank you for contacting us once more regarding this bug with the Crab Toss activity. I understand that it can be frustrating not to see immediate results based on your in-game report. Keep in mind that even if we are able to verify a report made through the game it can take time to resolve the issue. The exact amount of time can vary wildly based on the severity and complexity of each issue. As it has been reported both In-Game and on the Forums, I can tell the Development Team is aware of this issue at this time and they are currently working on addressing it. Please keep an eye on the official forums for any future updates and announcements regarding Guild Wars 2 news. Please let us know if you have any other questions concerns. Thanks again!
So from the looks of this, it seems that they are aware and doing something about the issue. I guess now we can only cross our fingers and hope for the best.

Honestly, the previous Living Story arch was much much better than this. Southsun has become an annoyance of massive Karka zergs that are able to completely wipe the even more massive player zergs the second they spawn. Glitchy content such as the achievements for Crab Toss which still need to be addressed and have locked players out for days now from completing them as the even draws to a close have only caused worry and frustration.
Molten Facility had very engaging and well-thought out design and mechanics, while the two dungeon instances of Southsun have been a source of frustration for many. Molten Facilities taught the crucial mechanics needed for the boss through the weapons testing segment near the start. Canach’s Lair failed to give much if any indication as to how to handle the fight properly.
Southsun as a whole, while well-intentioned is very brutal on many players, and very annoying when you find yourself suddenly in the middle of a massive spawn of deadly hostiles. Glitchy content, poor dungeon design, I think that the wise choice would be to return to a Flame and Frost style of delivery for Living Stories, taking more time to tell the story and create stronger content.
And please, please, extend crab toss. Many have been unable to complete the glitched achievements through no fault of their own. Please consider treating it such as the Flame and Frost bonfire, taking away the chest rewards in it but allowing people to play and complete their achievements who were caught in the terrible glitch that has plagued Crab Toss for several days now.
Yep, same happening to me. Took a bit of a break from Crab Toss, came back to wrap it up. Only 12 more grabs and like 20 carries until I am done. Spent an hour playing and progress didn’t budge. Please extend crab toss playability once this is patched, this is rather unfair to those who are completionists and have jobs that limit the amount of time they can play.
Considering how the bonfire for the last Living Story was extended for players I think this would be an equal and just response.
I have a critical bug with my shoulder armour that has persisted since release day. Any attempts to remove my armour automatically cause the game to crash. Attempts to dye the shoulder armour are null. While on the dye screen the change is apparent, upon exit the dyes revert to the current colours. No other armour pieces have this error.
I’ve encountered this issue as well, and 9k exp from completing the monthly too.
