Dungeons or fractals I’d say. Use some food to boost your XP and off ya go.
^ or this. Simple, eloquent and to the point… lol
You can’t even eat bacon or have sex that much and enjoy it.
Whoa-whoa-whoa-there Tonto… maybe you can’t … I mean… bacon who doesn’t enjoy that -every- time.
I started to comment seriously but to be honest, If we let the game mature for a year or two, a lot of these perceived problems will go away as ANet works the code vodoo that they do.
Saying that reminds me of another game I played, that has been since put on the chopping block by NCSoft, City of Heroes. When it first came out, you could stack enhancements on a power and make it insanely powerful, think blowing a bad-guy across an entire zone if you put enough knockback enhancers into your power sort of powerful. Then, in one issue, the kittened off 90% of the player base when they introduced Diminishing Returns to the system. 8 years later and one kittenload of crying later, the players saw it as a challenge to see just how much they could squeeze out of a ‘build’ inside the DR system. My point is, only time will tell where we’re headed. Give the ANet coders some time to catch up with the bug reports that have stressed them to the point they needed to hire more support staff. I have every confidence that they want to get stuff fixed for us.
ANet fanboy? nah, I tried GW1 and wasn’t fond of it. But, I’m a software developer IRL and I take every bug in code I write personally and squish it with extreme prejudice as quickly as I can. And if given the opportunity to develop enhancements later on down the road, I jump on it. Most developers I know are like that, I’d like to think the guys in game development are that way too..

Okay, so I understand what they are saying, but I don’t think it answered my question.
I want to know why sometimes you will see stats AND attributes in green on armor/weapon then sometimes see green stats with a white attribute next to it. Does an attribute written in white with a green stat mean the attribute is new to you?
Best done by example I think. Lets say you use a sword and it’s values are:
+72 vitality
+72 toughness
+100 precision
You find a sword on the corps of a Whooziewhatsit you just killed and when you hover over it, it puts a currently equipped window next to it’s stats which are:
+69 vitality (in red)
+75 toughness (in green)
+100 heal (in white)
The Vitality stat is red because it’s lower. The toughness is green because it’s higher and the heal stat is white because you don’t have it on your current weapon to compare against. A value will also show up in white when it’s same as a value that matches it on the currently equipped weapon.
Hope that helps.
For guardians sword is also a solid choice…but it’s probably their second most defensive weapon choice (just behind mace), and their offhand weapons are all pretty defensive too. That’s great for survivability and utility, but it will mean that you kill things a bit slower. That said it’s got a fair bit of single-target damage from the #3 ability and even gives you a little leeway on range as well. Personally I like mixing it with a focus for another medium-range attack and #5 is either extra damage agaisnt a single target or extra defense against groups; both of which are nice. The MH sword gets a LOT better if you go deep enough in radiance to get the trait that refreshes your Virtue of Justice every time you kill something. You can start every fight by giving the enemy a 5 sec burn, which really helps improve kill rate.
Don’t forget the “Right Hand Strength” trait you can build in, allowing more damage from the sword. Couple that with a heal on Dodge and a Superior sigil of Energy in your focus you’ve got the starts of a fairly good support build with some respectable dps (not warrior grade dps, but not to shabby either).
In Lions Arch you can buy a power level reader its about 45 Silver. Mines over 9000.
Holykitten I about choked on my coffee when I read that. Thanks, needed the chuckle this morning.
Sadly, with the Guardian you’re kittening yourself as well, though not nearly as bad as you would be with the Mesmer. I normally run mace/focus * Greatsword but there are and when I can’t get enough regen in or need that gap closer switching between the two sets lets me get to where I need to be. Truth is once I got used to swapping my effectiveness and more importantly, my survivability, substantially increased.
I can respect the desire not to switch, in which case I say just go with what you’re happy with. If that’s Sword/Focus, then with the right traits, that’s a perfectly viable.
Sword has a ranged auto attack, a blink (control) and a ranged blocking attack. Focus has a blind/bounce heal and a pretty good shield, so I’d stay away from symbol builds and perhaps focus on condition removal and shouts for support if you ever get into a party. While the Scepter and Staff are our “ranged” weapons, a good party will have 4 other members that will dwarf your ranged capabilities no matter what you do, so lean into supporting them while they kill it and you should be fine. (imho though, you should at least pack a scepter on the alt. key just in case)
Another thing I noticed (sorry I know this is turning into a book) you said swapping is mapped to ‘Q’. I say ouch, that’s a strafe key… the default ‘`’ key would be better for the purpose of getting it out of they way… wouldn’t it?
The Guardian isn’t so much about DPS as it is about survivability and utility. There are a few builds that favor DPS (burning), but most will trade Warrior-esque DPS for a fair bit of control and healing/condition removal. If your going to focus on DPS, then a Elementalist or Thief might be up your alley as they have traits for both DPS focus or more support-y type builds.
Hope my 2 copper helped a bit.
I would not roll a Ranger.
Rangers are the most broken and unfinished class in the game, according to the developers. Half of their utility skills were removed in beta to be replaced/fixed but they ran out of time and put the broken and useless skills back in.
Also, the developers have outright LIED to the ranger community for over a month by promising a “big major” ranger update to fix all their utilities, and every patch it’s “we need more time for testing” or “we were worried there might be imbalances” followed by “it’ll come next patch.”
Yeah right.
Oh, get over it.
Ranger is still a good class, Op. My level 80 ranger could solo well above his level all the way through and is darn effective in WvW.
I’d have to agree, Rangers are a fun class, especially as an Asura with a sword and dagger for melee… little guy looks like Yoda … lol! But they can be danged effective tbh. Yes they have their bugs, but at this point, what class doesn’t have some bugs?
At first look, the Guardian looks like it’s easy to pick up, but there’s some finer points that make playing a useful Guardian quite a bit harder. If you want a good mix of Ranged combat and Melee combat, then I’d run with a Warrior. Since there’s no ‘Holy Trinity’ there’s no true tanks or healers like you are used to coming from WoW. The deeper health and toughness pool of the Warrior will let you get used to the mechanics and give you a breadth of weapons and skills to play with.
Engineers are almost purely ranged. They’ve no melee weapons to speak of, but they can be built into powerful support and ranged damage dealers with work. I’ll defer to IndigoSundown’s summary of the Necromancer. They can be a very powerful tool in the right hands, but they have their nuances.
Also, I’d point out that you have more than one character slot. Make 3 Characters, one of each of the classes you are interested in and work them up to level 20 each. You can still accomplish your daily stuff on any of them, as they share an account wide bank, and it gives you the chance to experiment with the different classes doing a bit of compare and contrast on them as you level.
It’s showing your pvp rune setup added to your pve setup. Basically it’s a display bug, your armor is fine. Mine did that with the Superior Runes of the Guardian. I tested it in the mists first, and then went ‘real-world’ with it and got the same effect.
There are plenty of groups and people out there that are perfectly willing to take you in at minimum level… of course, a lot of that depends on what server your on as well. Having said that http://gw2lfg.com/ is a great place to find people. If not there, Lion’s Arch overflow has netted me some really good groups in the past.
Good luck with your dungeoneering!
I saw the armor skin for AC and decided that I would love to have some of the pieces for my main. I’m fairly new to dungeons, I’ll admit that right up front. Before this weekend, I’d only run path 2 and story mode of the Catacombs, a failed attempt at CM and story mode for Arah. I had fun with all of the dungeons, even the failed attempt.
Now here’s where the title of the post comes into play:
I ran a couple of levels of the Fractals on Saturday and on the third level we got to the end boss fight and without warning the leader drops instance and we’re all booted instantly without a word. It was a bit frustrating as we had pretty good group synergy for a PUG and had just figured out the mechanic for beating the boss. No biggie, things happen, maybe the leader had an emergency, I don’t know, but it was what it was.
So, I figured I’d start the grind for my armor since I had plenty of time Sunday evening to do a couple of runs. I found a team and off we went to go path AC path 3. We finished in pretty good time. The rest of the team skipped a bunch, so, as not to be left going O.O as Kholer facemashed me, I followed along; which is fine as well. But, we got to the end, killed the big baddie and before I could click on Accept on the reward popup, we were all dumped from the dungeon as the Instance owner left. Yes, I got the rewards that popped up on the screen, but having never run the path before, was there a chest to loot? If there was, the instance owner left so quick the other four of us didn’t get a chance to loot it, or even look around and enjoy the ambiance of the place (lol).
After that, some of us stuck together to run the first path. We filled out the team, and off we went; making it all the way to the end even after we dropped a member. We wiped on the boss after the first attempt, but the leader decided it was taking to much time and left after a second attempt, booting us all and preventing us from filling out the team and getting any of the rewards for getting so far, or finishing it ourselves.
I’d hate for this to turn into a thread about horrible leaders or how bad the dungeons were (because I did enjoy them up until the teams got booted) because that wasn’t my goal here. My goal, was to illustrate that the latest iteration of how instance ownership is handled is not necessarily (imo) the best way to handle things. Of course, this is my opinion, and it’s jaded by some pretty crummy luck in pugs, but I can see it frustrating more people than just me if this is a common occurrence. I don’t have any other suggestion than to pass instance ownership to another party member in dungeons only.
tl;dr: Instance owners can boot entire groups without warning, wasting everyone’s time and effort if they have the notion. Please pass the instance ownership to another member of the group in dungeons.
Thanks for reading, hopefully this is in the right spot. (copied from the op in the dungeon forum)

Ok, so I have a Guardian that I put 1 Superior Rune of the Guardian on. But what I see is all of the levels blue and the (X/6) number is red showing (7/6). This is prolly a dumb question, but is that intentional or should I bug report it?
I never heard it before today. I think urban dictionary needs an entry for it.
Basically ‘Face-tanking’ means standing directly in front of a baddie and take his attacks with little effort to dodge relying only on active healing or passive defenses to save you while drawing the aggro of said target away from squishier party members.
Hope that made sense.
To the CD Charr warrior that faced off against the TC Necromancer just north of RL last night… Dude, that was an awesome kill. I’ve never been trounced so quickly and thoroughly … lol

I forgot to add that some of the Seraph refer to the centaurs derogatorily as “ponies” if you listen to their dialog, which also indicates that they have a clear concept of what horses are.
(As an explanation for those who aren’t horse people: although there are exceptions for some breeds, in general the difference between a horse and a pony is a height cutoff. In most cases they’re the same type of animal, which is why I’m referring to horses and ponies interchangeably in my posts.)
i know this is slightly off topic, but as a non-horse person, i do have to ask:
i always thought ponies were just baby horses, is that not the case?
Ponies are technically small horses, usually 12-14.3 hands high. Of course, lots of people use the term pony to replace the term ‘foal’ or ‘filly’ when referring to baby horses.
Ancient Bronze or brass for the trim
Calfskin or Earthen for the primary color
maybe? Here’s a list of most of them (I’ve got colors very close to those on my T1 Cultural but I’m stuck at work so I can’t tell you for sure)

I’ve not used the form enough to gauge how useful it really is, having just hit lvl 30. But I will say I was a little disappointed with the transformation itself. I envisioned it being something akin to what we saw in the opening movie with the warrior ‘growing’ into bear form. I know that’s just my ascetic side coming out in me. The twice I’ve used it, Raven form did seem to help … but there again, any benefit to toughness is a boon for an Elementalist (esp when your in a bind).

So I hit 80 about a week ago, and using everything that I had saved/gathered/traded built a nice set of armor to match my level. I hadn’t even thought about a Legendary anything until I started seeing posts on it. So I started digging, trying to find out what it would take to make one of these guys and as I worked out a basic bill of material I was floored I’ve not seen a bill like this since my days in Eve online. I’d like a second to make sure I totally understand what I’m setting myself up for does this look correct?
