Keep hating on the best paying and most supportive customers, all you’re doing is shooting yourself in the foot.

This is what supportive looks like: Hey I didn’t win but I am glad I supported a good company and a terrific game.

This is what supportive doesn’t look like: I didn’t win so I demand my money back and I hate Arenanet and the game.

Another supportive look that you seem to have forgotten: Hey I didn’t win and spent a healthy amount of money on your advertisement. I think the way you advertised this is misleading. You should look at your actions.

Why is this supportive? Because you need to let them know that their actions have long term effects on their company. A company touts itself as being UPFRONT but has shown at several times it has not been UPFRONT.

I complain when I believe they have done something wrong so that they will hopefully do the right thing the next time.

Could you let me know what they weren’t upfront about?

They stated a chance. Not stating in the emails or anywhere on the landing page for the keys did it state the skins and holiday items that were added to the chests were RARE. By using general statements of chance that leads a person to believe there is a reasonable rate of drop. Using the excuse that you got other items isn’t valid as if the person wanted those items they would have bought keys before the event to get random stuff. These keys were touted because the chests had items added for halloween. Based on the drop rate of items we get from them most people would assume they would have had rates of drops similar to things like the black lion salvage kits, or fine trans gems, etc.

Instead you can have people open 100-200 chests and not get a skin.

Go see Mc Donalds when they have a promotion they list chances on anything from a drink all the way up to the grand prize. That’s upfront.

And yet a lot of others opened 10-15 chests and got items. It was chance that gave them these items. Its called a chance for a reason. Having to state rare next to chance is just redundant when the chest drops so many different items.

Dinks,
They said you have a chance of winning 1 of 6 skins… that could easily be construed as getting one skin out of the 6 when you open any given chest… not nothing at all. The fact that it fooled this many people proves that it was not well written REGARDLESS if it was in fact written CORRECTLY. And if your like me and just saw the “Discover the secrets of the black lion chest” in game… then the word chance was never even mentioned. Are you trying to tell me that I need to go look at websites and forums every time they advertise something in game because it can not be trusted? Because if you tell me that I need to do research before I make a purchase… that says something VERY bad about the company selling it. Anet played off of peoples trust. Period.

I wonder what the chances are of winning in court if someone was to contest the charges on their bank card as false advertising. I think that person would have a good case.
(I am not suggesting anyone do this… just a hypothesis I was curious about)

Strange, I like that the BLCs only had a 1% chance of giving the skins. I like that they are trade-able, so anyone who wants one can buy it (instead of keys). I’m extremely impressed that ArenaNet added the Mad King Chests to try to let people know they care.

This all seems like some strange joke about misunderstandings…

Kyle,
The mad king chests was a chance to restore faith. But with the .01% drop rate… at the end of the day, people dropped money, expecting something, and got nothing even with the second chance. If its a failure of the consumer; anet will pay for it. If its a failure of anet, anet will still pay for it. If it is in fact the consumers fault; as a lot of people seem to point at… then its still an anet failure for not correctly advertising or informing the consumer. I for one, had I known about the drop rate, would have still bought gems. But I would have bought one of the costumes or traded for gold to grab a skin. Since I am not accustomed to this type of cash store, the way the event worded the merchandise, I assumed you would have a good chance to get one of 6 items with a few keys. I never imagined what they meant was… you have a SLIM chance to get ANYTHING at all. If that had even occurred to me I would not have done it. I don’t consider myself a foolish consumer. You may disagree, but again, at the end of the day, faith in Anet has gone down/vanished tremendously with hundreds if not thousands of paying customers. And you cannot argue that point.

Just gotta say….

Opened 6 Black lion chests (Bought 5 keys) -> Got the scythe skin
Opened around 7-9 New Mad King chests -> Got Heavy shoulder skin + Recipe: Gift of the Souls

So yeh… I am satisfied But even if I didn’t get any of those, I would still be. Bcos unlike most ppl here it seems, I knew it was a gamble and the chances are ridiculously low to get the skins or the rare recipes. That’s why I only bought 5 keys in the first place.

If you want to have somebody to blame, blame yourself. If you buy tons of Chests so you can get the skin it is your own fault being so stupid. If you want one of the BLC skins buy them off the TP. Don’t throw your money around like a fool and hope things you want fall from the sky on your lap.

Failth, you are COMPLETELY right. I do “blame myself”. I was “so stupid”… and a lot of people are in my boat. We take full responsibility for it. So in the future, in order to be not stupid, and not need to blame myself, I will no longer be supporting Anet with money. Lesson learned. Like I said earlier. I’m not mad, I’m not complaining, but lesson WELL learned. You have just turned away probably thousands of good paying customers. BUT… when it comes time to place the blame for THAT… please remember your post. ANet will need to “Blame themselves” for being “so stupid.” And when your beloved game turns sub-par, you make sure you remember why… and don’t blame it on us for not supporting anet. Good day. =)

It’s good that you’ve learned to be more fiscally responsible, and I believe that’s worth the loss in revenue to an MMO provider.

Kaff,
I am glad you have taken it upon yourself to tell me what I have “learned”. Especially when my post had nothing to do with being “fiscally responsible” and everything to do with trust in a company. I am doing just fine 40 bucks short in my bank account BECAUSE I am “fiscally responsible” thank you very much. Let me restate EXACTLY what my post said to you so you more clearly understand it:

I was comfortable spending money on a company based on something the company was offering. I did not know it was such a big gamble. I spent money. I was disappointed in the results. Therefore I will no longer give that company money.

If you take it past that point and start questioning peoples “fiscal responsibility” then you have taken it much too far. I hope I have cleared things up for you. All the best.

One of the best replies in this thread…

“Thank you! For not just giving everyone skins. It would have been like giving every kid a trophy while not keeping score.

All in all, even though ANet did not need to do this IMO. This is why I have continued to support them in ALL of the GW’s games over the years…

I hadnt realized this was a tournament that warranted “trophies”. I thought it was a fun holiday skin that I could get if I supported Anet. I was wrong.
I for one, am always against giving every kid a trophy when they don’t do as good as the other kid… but what did you do better than me to get your trophy? the correct answer is nothing… you did nothing better. because it was never a competition… it was digital merchandise that most thought could be easily purchased through keys. Next time you go to mcdonalds and order a number 4 and they take your money and come back and say… oh sorry… you didnt win a number 4, I want to make sure you thank them for giving you a chance to get a number 4 as you walk out hungry… because remember.. “It would have been like giving every kid a trophy while not keeping score.”

Thank you Anet for giving as another change at getting “Rare” loot.

Now if only we knew it was rare prior to purchasing. =)

“each Black Lion Chest you open has a chance to give you one of six exclusive Halloween-themed weapon skins!”

The first thing one reads about the chests MAYBE…. The way I read it seems to make me believe its like a happy meal… Buy a happy meal with a chance to get 1 of 6 toys…. but every happy meal still comes with a toy. POORLY POORLY advertised. Almost to the point that I believe a piece of legislation could be written to protect buyers. I’m not suggesting that should happen… but an argument could be made. Maybe Anet just made history; but not in a good way.

And thats the way the cookie crumbles. Anet stated you have a chance to get a skin, that doesnt mean youre guaranteed to get one no matter how much money you throw at the screen.

would have been to hard to state the “chances” to get the skins? i doubt so.

theres a chance the earth can explode right now.

Is that chance greater than getting a skin? because I would believe it. =)

I concur with OP… I am a n00b to this cash shop thing. I had no idea the odds were THAT low. I dropped about 30 bucks to support anet and didnt get what i wanted. Needless to say, I wont be spending any more money. I imagine a lot of people are in the same boat as me. I am not complaining, I’m not mad… just learned a hard lesson about anet. A lesson I wont soon forget when it comes to supporting this company.

I did not realize getting a skin was such a HUGE gamble… like less than .01% gamble. It tells me a lot about this game though (I am new with this whole item shop/gamble concept). With that said, I “played/gambled” and didn’t get what I wanted, period. So I will no longer be contributing my money to this game. I’m not mad, angry, or even complaining… But I am not happy with my purchase, so naturally… I will not be purchasing again from this company just like any other company that I feel I have wasted good money on. That is all… Good day. =)
