I’d say the only class that really feels superior to the others is Mesmer. Thieves are excellent Dolyak assassins though, but Mesmers are the only class I don’t dare go 1v1.

I'm worried about tagging mobs instead of saving the outpost.

Seriously, events have to scale in a different way with player numbers. Right now in Orr events, I’m more preoccupied about tagging mobs with AoE attacks than I am about saving the outpost.

People often shoot their AoE attacks on the ground even when there are no mobs present, just to anticipate the next wave before others. It becomes a huge skill spam fest. Oftentimes, mobs don’t get rendered until they are almost dead. I tested throwing the poison AoE on the ground where waves came, and noticed I’d get XP credit from mobs that I never once saw on my screen until they were a body on the ground.

The events seem to revolve around the urge of “tag as many mobs as you can to maximize loot”, which makes it quite unlikable.

to sum it up, AA transfered there and RUIN followed them. So unlike a server like HoD, they haven’t been there winning from day1. They started on Northern Shiverpeaks first. So they had to play catch up. They also probably don’t have as big of an issue in getting all their members into WvW which makes them stronger. Titan does excellent during offpeak hours, but during peak hours, there are so many pugs flooding the queue, they can’t really get much in and be able to do much. So the server suffers during primetime hours. the organization and force just isn’t really there during that time. I don’t think ET has to deal with that problem much. However queues have been getting better recently. they arent 5+ hours like before, now some borderlands are instant most of the day and eb is like an hour or so.

The fact that ET is a medium pop server is a double edged sword. You’re right in that the WvW guilds have an easier time getting their members in, however that’s an advantage only during NA peak hours. When the guilds go to sleep, ET doesn’t have the “strong PUG population” that HoD has to cover the off hours.

Wait, what? Where can I buy a full set of exotic gear for 8g?

Nah hes talking out of the wrong hole.
I have feeling hes not even 80 yet.

exotic gear goes from 12g to 18g depending on the stats you want with berserker being at the very highest.

Either that or you can grind wvwvw for tokens and get exotic gear that way

Normally by the time you hit 80 you’d have about 18gold in your bank if you arent a big spender

Yeah I’ve been buying my set and some pieces go as high as 4g, usually 3.5g with the jewelry at 2.5g.

Gated Content

in Suggestions

Posted by: Saga.1652

Saga.1652

Gated content only works if that content is rewarding in some form. Even if you could do dungeons only once a day right now in GW2, not many would do them simply because the rewards are so distant, they don’t seem worth it. You would feel like you’re getting nothing for doing that daily dungeon.

Gating works in WoW because raids are actually quite rewarding to the players. A player can enter a raid expecting to get a piece of gear, and at the very least currency that’ll help them obtain other pieces of gear outside the dungeon. The difference is you can raid once or twice and get gear, while in GW2 you have to do the dungeon 8 times to get a piece, and even then it’s only cosmetics.

Gated content only works with a carrot at the end. And ArenaNet is of the stance that people will do the same dungeon 80 times because it’s “fun” doing so; not for the carrot.

GW1 has survived for nearly a decade now without either a subscription or any such “brilliant solution”. Checkmate.

Yes, and Guild Wars 1 was also an “average” game. In the grand, objective perspective that is revenue, Guild Wars 1 was not a spectacular hit. Yet GW2 was hyped by the fandom as a revolution to MMOs that would explode into greatness.

I don’t see anything bad about GW2 being an average game though. It’ll still pay ArenaNet’s salaries.

the endgame answer ?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Saga.1652

Saga.1652

Alright, how about this. Make a zone specifically for endgame. Place some incredibly epic events in that zone, with bosses that actually pose a challenge with creative game mechanics. The zone itself progresses, at first the “good guys” only have an outpost or such, and as you progress clearing the zone doing this epic events the good guys start conquering the zone, further advancing the war effort. Now make those “good guys” your guild, that is the zone is instanced per guild, and each guild progresses individually through it.

Now, whenever people successfully complete a “boss event” they gain an insignia, which is displayed in a “insignia panel” or some such. The insignia are tiered, so in order to experience the next epic event, people must first earn the insignia in the previous event. Make each event consist of incredibly difficult bosses that the guild has to kill. They have to work out strategies, try different build combinations, and actually coordinate to further progress. The tiers should also get harder and harder, with the last tier event being the ultimate goal.

Now the insignia should mean you have accomplished something very prestigious. Not by doing the same dungeon 80 times, but by defeating an incredibly hard event with your guild that took a high level of coordination, planning, and flawless execution. People should be able to visibly see your insignia, maybe place the highest tiered insignia you’ve acquired next to your name. If should be something to show off, akin to legendary weapons. And the guilds who accomplish this first should have their banners placed in Lion’s Arch.

Talked about it with some people from my guild and we came to the conclusion that crafting is currently the only viabel method of getting exotics.

Negative you get your early oranges through karma vendors crafting and 100% zone completion. Then once you have some real gear on you go with a group and get your nice dungeon oranges. They never said someone in greens would be able to roll through dungeons. As it is there are only 2 dungeons in the game that require effort the rest are faily easy with a properly geared team.

Yet they also said that gear wouldn’t matter, that this wasn’t a gear treadmill.

If there is no reason to reach 80, and “endgame” starts at level 1; then why did my damage triple in WvW going from 79 to 80 with exotics? Wasn’t the gear and level supposed to not matter? Yet, I’ve found the only place where it doesn’t matter is in SPvP for obvious reasons. But you kill mobs faster (even when downscaled), dungeons become easier, and you stomp WvW as an 80 with exotics compared to all the other levels.

That’s what’s strange about GW2. It tries to sell the idea that it’s not necessary to grind gear or get to 80. But at the same time it is important. So it’s stuck in a weird place right now.

So you finally hit Level 80....

You spend so much time grinding for a set of gear, when you realize it’s only one combination of stats, and if you want to change your character’s build and try maybe condition damage, you have to grind ANOTHER set of gear.

How GW2 IS becoming a "Grind" -MY thoughts.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Saga.1652

The OP also has my support. The current endgame is a bigger grind than raiding two times a week ever was. Contrary to what Tempest thinks, getting rewarded for “skill” is nonexistent; you get rewarded for doing a dungeon 80 times. That is, the more you grind the more you get rewarded. But at the same time ArenaNet tells you that you shouldn’t grind. Then what should we do? Buy gems, maybe?

Saga.1652

From the very beginning we knew that GW2 was supposed to eliminate the raiding / progression / gear treadmill concept of “endgame”. However, as I look at it now with two level 80 characters, it just feels like the game is standing on a weird intermediary spot.

On one end, they say the “endgame” starts at level 1. This message is reinforced with mechanics like the bolster in WvW. Yet, being level 80 and geared makes a HUGE difference in WvW; I’d say my damage almost tripled going from level 79 to geared 80. After experiencing WvW in that way, I feel almost useless when I get in with my level 12 alt.

They said content should be fun and challenging. They made dungeons especially challenging, which it does actually make them fun, the first 5 times you do them or so. But when you consider that to get all the gear out of a dungeon you need to do it up to 80 times, it becomes a HUGE grind; and the only thing worse than a grind, is a hard grind. Imagine if mobs in the outer world were all very challenging akin to boss fights. You’ll eventually try to avoid them when you travel around; simply because that “Tiny Loot Bag” isn’t enough incentive to repeatedly kill challenging mobs time and time again.

As it stands right now, if your aim is to get that cool looking dungeon gear, the challenge is not so much in the dungeon design itself but in how much tedious grind your mind is capable of withstanding.

The game tries to sell the idea that gear and level doesn’t matter, but in reality it does matter (except for SPvP of course). And on top of that, the ways to get that gear are more of a grind than raiding twice a week ever was. You can either farm events, about 720 of them, do dungeons, about 80 of them, or farm for gold (so you buy gear from TP / crafting) about 30g-40g or so.

Then comes the realization that all that grind only gives you one set of gear. If you want to try another build with your character that varies greatly from the one you’re using right now, you have to grind ANOTHER set of gear. That means the grind doubles, sometimes even triples, if you want to experience all the different “specs” with your character.

On one side, I’m grateful that there’s at least some carrot on a stick in the game. I like the sense of progression, it’s the reason why I play RPGs and not FPS (although even FPS implement some kind of progression nowadays). On the other, I hate the tedious grind that the progression in this game involves. I honestly think they need to implement:

- Cross-server Dungeon Finder.
- Lessen the price of gear.
- Make every stat combination available through every means.
- Converge dungeon badges to one universal badge.
- Increment the effect bolster has on WvW.

Zelthios, so you turn a blind eye to exploits only because it is ET who are denouncing them? That’s what truly is sad. I bet if one of your country’s Olympics athletes was accused of steroids use, you’d be there complaining about the Olympic’s poor opening ceremony to divert the problem.

It doesn’t matter if it’s someone from ET, HoD, SoS, or whatever other server that denounces an exploit. It needs to be looked at, and the community should support such efforts to clean WvW.

The trebuchets are not an exploit, but Sea of Sorrows has had a few hackers that I’ve seen in this match, especially that Norn who it seems uses some form of teleportation hack and moves very rapidly (at least 10xSwiftness).

For example, this picture here shows two SoS invaders in an unreachable place who “appeared there” when the keep was still impenetrable. We were still defending the door at the time, and had siege on the ramparts. These two started destroying the siege from up there.

Best way to contribute as a thief in WvW?

in Thief

Posted by: Saga.1652

Saga.1652

I’ve found my Thief to be much better at ranged AoE than my Warrior, both at level 80 and geared. And the mobility that it has is amazing. This is what I do:

Cluster Bomb is essential. With a Power/Precision/Crit + Vit build you can do a lot of damage with it, usually critical hits range from 3-5k and has a good range to it. The other advantage of this skill is that you can spam it. When defending a keep from the rampart, shoot one, dodge back, shoot another, dodge, etc., and you’ll be taking very little damage while doing a lot of it yourself. If you ‘re good on knowing how to time the air explosion then you can do more damage, just try to explode it when it’s almost hitting the ground.

With D/P as weapons, you can also solo any control point out there with Blind spam. And if you get some Acrobatics in your build, you’ll get so much mobility that no one, not even the whole enemy’s zerg, will catch you.

Dodges+Shadowstep+Withdraw+Infiltrator’s Arrow are excelent escape mechanisms. I’ve had situations where there’s 10 people hell bent on chasing me using cripples, stuns, etc., and still come out alive.

I think the biggest factor is that you need be 80 and have at least exotic weapons to feel like you’re doing something. My damage duplicated, nay, tripled upon gearing myself at 80 compared to when I entered at lower levels. It makes a HUGE difference.

Is this working as intended please?

I’d say yes and no. Often 5 man dungeons have become nothing more than “rez zerg” which is rezzing time and time again during the encounter until the boss dies. It feels lacking. Then there’s the cathedral “endgame” events, which are nothing more than a zerg. There are also people who really liked to heal / tank. On the plus side, we don’t have to wait for tanks / healers. This, however, was made relatively easy with the dungeon queue system of other games.
