Dunno what to say really. I’ve gone through all settings and performance testing I, and others on TR’s forums could possibly think of in the past two days. Checking memory perf, bus perf, DX9 general perf; everything checks out. My hardware appears to run everything else at specc’d speeds, except GW2.
If it’s a setting, I have no idea why it would persist across installs of both windows and the game. I do know that some settings are retained though, but I have no idea how to clear them out, nor why they would effect performance in such a bizarre way.
Have you tried re-seating your GPU? It sounds like all you have done is software side.
It’s probably at least worth a shot… Pretty much everybody’s guess is a shot in the dark at this point.
It’s not “just gw2”. My hardware in far inferior to yours(see below) but I’m walking around the beta area with +50fps on high/ultra.
Just need to know how to streamline a PC to play single thread/render heavy MMOs.
Whoa there buddy, no need for the hostility.
What I meant was this problem only appears in GW2. Hardware runs fine elsewhere. And your performance numbers is what’s telling me something is wrong with my experience. Using logic, I can determine that it is something with GW2 and no with my hardware. Make sense?
I have put in a ticket but since this problem is so… odd, I’m not exactly holding my breath.
Ok, so I just tried a completely fresh install of windows, drivers, and the game. And it still ran like mud. I don’t know what else I could possibly do. It’s not my hardware, it runs everything else just fine. It’s just GW2.
Shadowplay isn’t a thing you can turn on or off anymore, unless you mean the recording in the background part? Yeah, I’m not recording in the background.
I don’t know what “experience client” is. Care to link a utility? could be useful.
As for Xbox apps, do you mean the game bar? I suppose I could try disabling that, but this would be the first game I’ve seen that runs so poorly because of it.
Ok, so I can’t seem to get the game to run very well. It’s certainly playable, but from talking with some colleagues of mine I should be getting significantly better performance. At first I thought they might be lying or inflating their numbers, but a long conversation with a friend last night with a lesser setup revealed he’s getting near perfect performance on his.
My setup:
CPU: Ivy Bridge i7-7700K @ 4.5 Ghz
GPU: GeForce GTX 980 (no titanium
)
RAM 16 GB DDR3 @ 1600
That’s not exactly best of the best in hardware, but it’s certainly no slouch. I should be able to run this game quite well, if not just straight up capped at 60 in most places. What is this like right now? I can’t even run at 60 FPS consistently with subsample turned on.
So, being a tech support guy myself I’ve gone through most of the standard methods for diagnosing this kind of thing. Reinstalled the game completely (fresh DAT and fresh settings), clean installed the graphics driver, etc. with no luck. I’ve checked my thermals, they are fine. I will say that the game only uses about 30-50% of my GPU’s processor throughput, and about 30% CPU.
I know it’s not my windows install, as that refreshes about every week or two. I think I’ve gone through three builds since I started playing again. And yes, I’m on insider, no, that shouldn’t be the cause. I’ve had performance issues with this game since before I was on insider.
I can also say that I have discovered that my client seems to have at least one confirmed visual bug. This might be unrelated but in talking to a few people about how cheap the “Executioner” enemies are and how I kept getting thrown at random, they all said I must be hitting his “bubble”.
“What bubble?” I replied, confused. I had never seen a bubble. Even before I reinstalled the GPU driver and the game there was no bubble… A friend of mine didn’t believe me, so I screencapped him having no bubble. He screencapped the bubble, and yeah, nothing like that has appeared on my client.
Also, yes this is the only game I have this kind of significant issue with.
At this stage I’m not really sure where to go. The performance is pretty bad, and seems to get worse with time. From talking with other people it sounds like I should be able to play at a buttery smooth 60 FPS, but instead I’m stuck in stutter city.
At some point I suppose I’ll try a clean install of Windows. That would eliminate engine problems or my hardware. Any suggestions?
The mail reappeared in my inbox and that seems to have cleared it up. I don’t know if a support staff reset it or it was automated. I did have to have the mail open for a few seconds for it to register though, guess I read it too fast the first time.
Got to this step on my alt today, and I can’t seem to do the mission. It says to check my mail, which I have, it told me to go meet somewhere (can’t remember the exact verbiage). I then deleted the mail. The compass function now still says to check my mail, but points me to the center of the plaza in LA. But there is no story mission entrance there.
Reading the wiki the letter said to meet at the sewers entrance of the Angola. I don’t know where that is and the wiki has no article for the Angola. Was this the bar where the order of whispers used to be before the remodel of LA?
I put in a ticket, but that might take awhile. Has anyone else encountered this? Super annoying as this is where the story starts getting pretty interesting.
