Facet of Nature Feedback

So I know this one is a bit delayed but better late than never. I rather enjoyed the hammer when I was playing the Revenant but while I was doing it I found my usage of Glint buffs to be fairly selfish if I was attempting to range dps. With the hammer #2 ability, Coalescence of Ruin, having increased damage at medium and long ranges and the long range being totally outside the the 600 aura range.

My idea is for Facet of Nature also increase the range of all of the Revenants auras by 300 range while active for a total range of 900 on top of its current effects. This would give Revenant an option to buff allies in melee while still being able to utilize there full damage of CoR in the narrow band between 800-900 range.

It would mean not having to choose between full ranged damage and buffing your party if your use the hammer vs any other weapon. It would also make Glint buffs more useful in mobile fights and phases while allowing for more strategies that don’t involve constant tight stacking.

So, what stats did you end up going with?

Not sure yet, still deciding, I have sword, shield, warhorn, and pistol right now.

Warhorn and Pistol eh? You holding out on us Roy?
:P

I think he was responding about the legendary he wants to make and means he has Bolt, Flameseeker Prophecies, Howler and Quip made up already. I’m a big fan of the Bifrost (especially on Revenant/Daredevil, those rainbow trails~) but if you don’t already have The Legend it’s ridiculously expensive at the moment. Juggernaut or Frostfang perhaps?

On topic, I’m pretty much ready to go for my Rev’s gear and have everything except an ascended spear and that’s only because I ran out of laurels to buy the pattern (purchasing shiny things for my home instance is more important!). Using a mix of Berserker/Assassin armour with Berserker trinkets/weapons to get up to around 53% base crit so that I can hit 100% in organised groups thanks to roiling mists.

Lol. I have been eyeballing Juggernaut ever since playing with the hammer last beta weekend. Getting a precursor is a pain though so I’m looking forward to the new paths for them they are adding.

If they used reveal on you then I guess that would help a but only then.

That’s the time where Revealed Training is a counterplay. The other usage (i.e. after attacking from stealth) is not a counterplay.

It’s is your enemy messing up and misusing their skills. The only time you would gain the benefit is if they revealed you when you are not in stealth and not capable of going in to stealth. So the only time you would benefit is when reveal would normally do nothing.

If you get knocked out of stealth or prevented from going in then there is no “counterplay” benefit because you were going to gain revealed as soon as you attacked and gain Revealed Training anyway. They are just denying you the additional offensive Sneak Attack and defensive time in stealth.

That’s what counterplay is. If they deny you the Sneak Attack, you get to have +200 power.

Just because you’ll get +200 power anyway doesn’t make RT less of a counter.

It does make it not a counter.

1) I don’t get revealed before the Sneak Attack.
I get time in stealth.
I get a Sneak Attack.
I get Revealed Training.

2) I get revealed before the Sneak Attack.
I get Revealed Training.

Revealed training is in no way a counter to a enemy reveal that knocks me out of stealth.

Of course it is, because by revealing you, they have to take more damage from you.

If your build can be hosed that easily, then you probably shouldn’t put all your eggs in one basket.

No, they don’t take more damage. We already established that you would have the revealed training bonus anyway from the sneak attack.

I am hesitant to call someone a out when they genuinely might misunderstand but I think I am done trying to explain it to you. If you can’t figure it out off of what I have already said then additional effort on my part is doomed to be wasted.

You are just trying to confuse the matter. Any thief using Revealed Training has all of the reveal uptime they need to gain the full benefits of Revealed Training through their own self applied reveals.
They are (in order of preference for clarity)
1) Launching a Stealth Attack from stealth.
2) Stealthing.
3) Attacking under the effects of self applied reveal from Stealth Attacking.

There could be some edge cases where you gain a benefit I guess. Something like you have no initiative or skills to stealth in the next few seconds and you are not currently stealthed. If they used reveal on you then I guess that would help a but only then.

We need counterplay.

This.

Counterplay already exists, it’s called Revealed Training.

Okay now you made a fool of yourself. This okay-ish trait functions in no way counterplay and even if it was it would be nerfed because too much power cannot be given to 1 trait especially at class mechanic level hard counter-counterplay.

The name of the trait is self-explanatory whether you agree with it or not.

That is untrue. It is not counter-play at all. Revealed is part of the Stealth Attack thief class mechanic. Revealed Training is meant to enhance your damage in the window of self applied reveal you get after using a Sneak Attack and before you can Stealth again after reveal ends.

There is no additional benefit gained from being revealed before hand so the thief gained nothing by being knocked out of stealth by Reveal because be he would of had Revealed Training anyway.

You can’t call it counter play to give the thief what he was going to have anyway.

I don’t see stealth as a profession mechanic in the same way something like steal is. It is a playstyle choice for survivability, the other major choice being evades. Many other professions have these kinds of choices. For example, mesmer has the choice to spec for shatter damage or phantasm damage, both of which have unique counterplay. With this analogy, getting revealed as a thief is similar to having your phantasms cleaved down as a mesmer. Sure, it hinders you, but it’s part of the game, and you work around it.

please name me a class that has attack that requires stealth….

please name me a class which whole defensive trait line is about stealth

I think of stealth as being like fear. Many professions have access to fear, but only the necromancer has traits that augment fear and relies on it as much as a mechanic. Like stealth with reveal, fear can be almost totally disabled via stability, which has a limited duration during which other things can be done, just like reveal.

You are ignoring Stealth Attacks which are a unique core thief mechanic and not part of the 12 or so stealth affecting talents thieves have. Here to lay it out.

Premise 1) Stealth Attack is a unique thief only class mechanic.
Premise 2) You have to be in stealth to Stealth Attack.
Premise 3) Reveal prevents and removes stealth.
Conclusion) Reveal prevents use of a thief class mechanic. i.e. Stealth Attack

Reveal does not have this effect on any other class so it effects thieves more then anyone else.

Oh and hold onto your pants thieves because every Herald in forced to have an AoE, stun breaking, blinding, 360 range Reveal slotted as a utility on a 20 second CD.

Stealth is most defiantly part of thief class mechanics. Stealth Attack? How is that not a class mechanic? The only class with it and one of our core and unique abilities even on the new DD.

And then there is the Traits. The DA line have Revealed Training which I admit can work without stealth with the new class reveals but it is meant for stealthing all the time, in CS line Hidden Killer, and is SA line every ability but Venomous Aura and Leeching Venom stealths you, only works in stealth, or reduces the CD of stealth abilities. All of it meant to modify stealth to be something special to the thief beyond what other classed have.

Steal is a class mechanic for sure but so is stealth. You have to go out of your way to avoid stealth as a thief and if you do you still lose stealth attacks even if you take no traits.

I have held out by my thief since the headstart. I used to love S/D but after a couple of years of changes I wanted to do something more fun and fell in love with P/P just for the fun of it. Ricochet’s sudden demise was a nail in the coffin for me and after playing DD in BWE2 I saw nothing to change my mind.

Then I played a Revenant in BWE2. After two days of playing the Revenant my thief was retired. His only remaining task is to craft the Revenant a full set of ascended gear. I have been playing a Guardian to fill the time till HoT.

This is great for explaining Rytlock as a Revenant, but what about the player character? How can you explain a new lvl 1 charr player starting out as a revenant, then helping original Rytlock clear out ghosts from Barridin’s tomb?

I actually like Healix’s theory. I just hope that Anet themselves provides an explanation of some sort like this. Perhaps new Revenant players don’t need to start in the first mission of the core game?

I was just talking about that with my g/f. I don’t see how a Revenant is going to fit any of the original game or season 2 story line. Perhaps Rytlock did something before he came back. Still that is the thing that is going to be the biggest lore problem for the Revenant as far as I can tell.

My guess at launch after doing the Sylvari level 20 story line was that the Sylvari were dragon minons. That is the only reason they can not be corrupted by other dragon. The only living thing we have seen immune to dragon corruption is other dragon minons.

You should go listen to the song Fear Not This Night, in which the Pale Tree is singing to the Sylvari. I think that listening to it now knowing about Mordramoth that she is singing about the dragon. The greatest threat the free Sylvari race will know.

Saint Jabberwocky.5098

Ok so lets do this.

Rytlock traveled into the mist chasing his legendary sword during an attempt to get rid of the Charr ghost problem. We don’t know it all but in the mist he gained the ability to channel the power of the Mists while in lost in the Mists.

For the powers of channeling the mist look at the GW1 class Ritualist http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Ritualist who also wears blindfolds and closed their eyes in combat.

“The Ritualists are one of the oldest known professions on Tyria. Being unique to Cantha, they have existed long before the Exodus and the gods granting magic to the races. Before magic, the Ritualists focused on channeling spirits from the Mists. They relied upon the strength and wisdom granted to them by their powerful ancestors whom maintained a connection to their descendants. Through their spirits, the Ritualists were able to practice magic, or something close to it. When magic was granted by the gods, many of the original abilities were strengthened and merged into their modern form. Though still relying on the power of the dead, their original skills are no longer a visible part of the profession.”

Lastly a Revenant is a type of ghost or undead that has come back to life.

So Rytlock goes into the mist, the afterlife, where he gains powers like the Ritualist, mixes it with his existing weapon and armor skill where they match, then comes back to the world of the living as a Revenant, one who has come back from the afterlife.

Anything else?

Nice write up! I disagree on a few points though, primarily being I don’t think we need ANY increase in recharge timers if weapons are to continue costing Energy. The Energy costs ARE what balance out their otherwise generously low cooldowns. For example, there were MANY times I felt the staff 5’s cool down was artificially too high given its Energy cost, and it messed up the flow of my combat significantly.

Additionally, I’d really love to explore some changes with the upkeep of Facet of Chaos. I never once found a situation in which I could justify keeping it going for just the Protection, in any of my builds. I think reducing it to -4 upkeep OR adding a small 2 seconds of Resistance per pulse and keeping it -5 could certainly make it a very valuable upkeep, particularly to give our allies some repreive from conditions even if we cannot cure them.

This would be AMAZING for support Ventari/Glint Heralds, as you could shelter your allies from conditions long enough to switch to Ventari to get your cleanses working.

I feel this would be a great compromise for keeping Revenant’s highly restricted on their condi management, as maintaining -5 upkeep with Chaos would be a huuuuuge opportunity cost to temporally ignore conditions.

I agree with you. I don’t think the cooldown of Coalescence of Ruin needs increased at all for sure. I found myself being restricted in its use use to the energy cost fairly often to keep me from over using it. Not counting the terrain issues with the attacking cutting off early, in PvP players would often step out of the attacks path at long range. So much so that I found myself wondering it I should aim it without a target more often when at extreme range. This skill as a skillshot ability could be rather fun. You would hear no complaints from me.

I would be rather sad if the cooldown on Coalescence of Ruin was increased though. It made for very fun game play and was my favorite thing about the Hammer, which was without a doubt, my favorite weapon of the Revenant. The balance of energy cost often restricting use with lower damage in close and slow travel speed with clear animations for avoidance at long range make for a amazingly balanced skill.

I feel like the Facet of Chaos is to expensive for what it does. In a group with another Herald I could see it getting some use but as is I feel it is not an option otherwise in most cases. I don’t think I really used it at all. Turning it on means using nothing else. Trying to stack it using facet of nature while attacking is just to much. A -3 cost with the current effect and it would see fairly regular use, -4 and it would at least leave you room to cast Coalescence of Ruin every 5 seconds or so without running dry in short order.

p.s. Thanks Roy and his team. The Revenant was more fun then I could of guessed. I see many happy hours in my future.

Saint Jabberwocky.5098

I really think I have found my new character. I have been having a had time getting in to GW2 for a while now only returning for a few months at a time. I could never find just the right class it seemed but Glint/Shiro is so much fun. My Thief, that has been my main since head start, is getting retired. The Daredevil just reminds me of what S/D acro thief has lost over the years I have played it. There are cool things to be found there still but that time has passed for me.

I went in to the Beta weekend not really thinking I would be playing the Revenant. I tested the Daredevil first (I will pass of this one) followed by the Dragonhunter (Fun to play. I think it will make for a great spec). The Revenant came late on my second day and kept going in to the morning of my third. Wow. It took a bit to get into it but I found the class to be fun everywhere I played it. I am already impatient for HoT now. What to play for the next 6 weeks and some change?

I don’t see how it would be a problem. The 1 limit seems to be for buying the account bound inventory item “Bag Slot Expansion” not for buying bag slots. The “Bag Slot Expansion” has the bonus of being savable for your HoT Reverent so I would guess they did not want everyone buying all of their future bags slots today. So bags slots are on sale AND there is a one time 50% off of the “Bag Slot Expansion” item.

You see I don’t believe that Anet thinks the expansion alone is worth $50 but I could very well be wrong and it could be worth that much. There is a simple way for Anet to stand by their statement that the expansion is worth $50 to existing players and they are just giving the game away to help new players get into the expansion.

If the base game is now free as you say then make it free. Where can my friends who never bought GW2 get their copy of the free game to download? After they play and enjoy the free gift of the original game they can decide to buy the $50 expansion just like the rest of us.

I am voting with my wallet but anyone who actually believes in a free market and freedom of speech should recognize the right of people to share their opinions about a product in a public forum. If you don’t like a product you don’t have to sit quietly in a corner. Weather or not you agree with them it is not your place to attempt to stifle opposing opinion rather than state your own belief and reason to the contrary.

OP if you fail to recognize that people have a basic right to share both negative and positive honestly held opinions, including things like calling for boycott or for additional support, then there is little I can do other then hear your opinion and ignore you since the only thing your supporting is repressing the opinions of others.

Since you got me to make a post about it here is my g/f and mine. I beta tested and preordered GW2 and she joined me after a year. We decided that as soon as we heard GW2 was having an expansion we would buy it because we love playing games together. We were watching the live stream and went to the preorder as soon as it was announced. We were both disappointed. My g/f more so then me. I don’t like giving money to companies that try to nickle and dime me. On the other hand I pay for useless crap in games where I don’t have to simply because I love the game. (PoE. Dota2, TF2, ect) I feel like this is the aggressive unfriendly crap that I hate and I feel like it has gotten worse as time goes along. I don’t feel like they are attempting to give me a fair price. I feel like they are pushing what the market will accept to make extra money off of me.

While I am tempted to buy the game still it is fading. I will not preorder it now. It is possible i will buy it after it’s launch. If I don’t really like what i see going forward for the first time I might not get it at all. Why? Because I no longer trust that this is not the first of a whole new round of unfriendly micro-transactions. I am not buying future content from a company I can’t trust to give me fair value.

When I am standing around the problem is small enough that it might be in my head but when my character has his weapon draw the problem is very clear. There was no way to tell this would happen until I used the makeover kit and drew my weapon.

I have three images here. The first is standing normal. The second and third are the two images with weapons drawn. It is very noticeable in the weapon out images.
