So i’ve played over 740 hours and just bought HOT. I’m very mad because they made gw2 f2p. So it’s like i’ve paid twice as much as new f2p players. I don’t think 740 hours is worth 60$. plz reimburse me plz. I did not enjoy any of those 740 hours u know. its like im getting rekt by anet. dont rekt me moar plz. 60$ for full expac + new content and new living story pretty much too high. i get moar value playing single player rpg for 20 hours. i dont get to play with friends in gw2. where is the fun? id rather pay 15 bucks a month to play WoW + 60$ each new expac. this is dumb. or id rather play ESO and having new dlc each 6 month for over 30$. my god. i feel betrayed for playing 3 years before it went f2p. ONLY 3 years. wow! You know, i wish anet would be working for free. PLZ.
Seriously, it is a very good move by anet. New players means more fun for everyone. Restriction seems to be well though too, limiting how it will affect existing players. I was afraid new expac would split playerbase like in gw1. But this announcement made me prepurchance HOT. Now I just wish they nerf DD ele. Cya ingame.

Well you paid to access and have fun for 3 years BEFORE f2p players. That is what I call value. Next time you buy a game, wait for it to be on sale, but you will wait. It will become on sale eventualy, like everything.
I mean really, you will have 6 years of game time, they will only have 3 years of game time.

I bought game 2012 for 50€ i think… so 50€ + 44.99€ = 90.99 for same content. RIP OFF.But…absolutely no concession for old players buying into the expansion? That seems skewed. I’m not averse to buying it, but at least give me some added incentive if everyone else is going to be getting what I purchased free.
You got to play for couple of years before everyone else. Most vet have played more then 100+ or even 1000+ hr. Thats alot of play time for 60$.

How do you even have a computer good enough to play GW2 if 60$ is too much? GW2 has been out for 3 years. 3 YEARS for 60$. Thats 20$ a year. And 0.60 cents per hour if you played for at least 100hr. THATS NOT ALOT if you compare it to any other hobby.
Because life changes a lot in 3 years. For me a car that used to work fine reached the end of its life span, and needs to go into the shop annually at best. For me college happened and horrific loans built up while study prevented me from working during the semester. Relatives can fall into financial trouble and need help. Injuries can happen. Robberies can happen. There are any number of reasons in the real world why people couldn’t spend $60 lightly.
Then you don’t buy HOT. Still, would you be mad if you bought a game on steam 3 years ago and it went on sale today? Would you be mad if you bougth a new bike 3 years ago and it went on sale 1 year later? You had plenty of time to enjoy it. That’s how it works in real world. Do you complain when anything you bought some time ago goes on sale?
Unless Anet is planning to put a cap on how long an account can play GW2 those 3 years have no extra value to me. They’re no more valuable than the first 3 years that new players will spend in the game. In fact, they’re less valuable, because I had access to less content.

There’s no set time cap, that time doesn’t have any inherent value. Everyone can play for 3 years when they get it. My 3 years coming first doesn’t mean anything.

Not the same. I have never seen steam sell someone the expansion for a game they bought from them and someone else the original and the expansion at the same time for the same price unless it was a special limited time offer. Anet is having this as the price period
Well, on steam you can buy a game + expantion for less then orignal price of the game witouth expantion when it came out…. Just look at Skyrim or borderland when it goes on sale…
And look at WoW. You dont have to pay for every expantion…

You are right on that point. But most steam game goes on sale before an expac, that’s basicaly what anet did. But instead of selling it 10$, they give it away for free with restriction. I don’t see what is wrong with that. Other MMOs do the same. They offer some free content so people will pay later on. If people had to buy core + HOT, the price to play the game would be wayy to high.

It’s mostly for PvP and WvW. I ususaly take the signet when running LB/GS but I had no idea what other options where available. Thanks HotHit for giving me some info but I kinda like the new beast mastery trait so i’ll look into Guard for perma swiftness like Tradic said! Thanks both of you!
Can’t seem to find a nice condi build with some movespeed… We only have a signet right?
Its one of the best build for 1v1. Lots of evade, good dmg. That’s the build I’d recommend for most 1v1. Sword is a great weapon for PvE too.

Basilisk venom because of the low cooldown (30 sec), 1.5 sec stun while you can unleash some good dps. And you can apply it before the fights since it last for 30 sec.

I’ve been playing alot of SPvP as a thief. The thing is, when I roam in WvW (Full berseker exotic gear with some ascended accessories) I feel like my dmg is really low. I got like 13k HP, my dagger hit rarrely crit over 1.2k while in SPvP they crit over 2k… Why? Any leads pls?
Like, my dagger crits for 500 vs a warrior…
Yeah, I play this build with ogre runes, sigils air/fire and exotic/ascended trinkets!

I’ve been playing thief for the last 2 weeks. Mainly SPvP. It is alot of fun and I enjoy the playstyle.
Even tho I had great success in 5v5 because i can out rotate and +1 fights, I find it hard to 1v1 any condi or heavy armor class while roaming in WvW(medi guard, shootbow, terrormancer and engi). Do you guys have any builds/tips to handle 1v1 vs those in WvW?
