Im Using Critical Strikes, Trickery and DareDevil. When i first started using the staff 3 nights ago it felt so jicky with the dodges and the Staff 2 Skill. However, after a couple of hours you start to get the hang of it. Im currently in Full Zerkers and i can manage to stay alive quite a bit (even more so now with the evade from Staff 5). However, i feel like all that damage isn’t necessary and I am still being downed entirely too much. I’m definitely going for Marauder Ascended pieces. That extra vitality at the cost of some precision seems more than worth it (with the Superior DD set too).

Shadow Refuge + Dagger Storm = Win.

Shadowstep into huge mob > Pop Shadow Refuge > Dagger Storm > Shadowstep back to original location. Such ownage, really helps turn the tide on small battles.

Shortbow in Dungeons + WvW is almost a necessity if you are into doing the most damage you can with your character (while not dying in melee range).

Im 80 with full MF exotic gear. What im saying is i still miss out on quite a bit of damage from %crit damage. BUT.. i still crit explosive bomb for anywhere between 2k to 6k+ in dungeons and WvW. (30,30,0,10,0). The only time i use D/D is when someone is away from the pack and i can get them Solo. Otherwise, the overall effectiveness of the Shortbow is just too good to pass up. I mean seriously, critting 5 people for 5000+ is just a lot of damage. Not to mention owning people on the walls who “think” they are out of range. trollol on them.

Good Afternoon! Chaos Legion (CL) located on “Gate of Madness” would love to have you. We’re a group of about 10+ guys that have been gaming together for 4+ years. We are good at what we do and are always looking for more, capable people. A quick bit of info:
-We always have the 3 main passive guild buffs running
-Gate of Madness is currently wrecking this weeks WvW (oh yes)
-We have Vent

Lets do this.

I personally have been running the “burst” 30 Shadow, 30 Crit, 10 trickery build. Every 45 seconds when my cool downs are up I literally know i can kill almost anyone in about 1.5 seconds (gotta love haste).

Oh, whats that? What about the other 45 seconds when you are useless? I’m sorry, but that simply isn’t the case. The shortbow is actually pretty effective at providing AOE dps (cluster bomb crits for almost 5k per person) and aoe poison (-33% healing). Pop poison first, shoot your cluster bomb through it and pop it in the air = everyone has the -33% healing debuff, its pretty huge. Not to mention your #1 ability bounces up to 3 targets and can crit for over 1500 a piece (thats 4500 damage every second).

Reading through you’re posts i would have to assume you just arent that good at playing the thief profession. I’ve had zero problems killing huge aoe groups by myself in Cursed Shore, never dying in Explorer modes when im D/D it up, and also hardly ever dying in PvP with only 14k life (lrn 2 not die, srsly) Maybe you should play a guardian and use the 1h + shield?

This is pretty much what i’ve been doing. Total PWNAGE!

Yeahhh Pistol Whip + Black Powder = Blinds for everyone you’re hitting (which means their attacks will miss on you).

I’ve tried all the weapons, and nothing comes close to PVE levelling with Dual Daggers. Sustained Damage + the most damage of any of the weapons.

This is why i wont mess with weapon skins any time soon.

I would go for mostly exotic gear with a mix of Gems to put in them (Mix in some Vit and toughness)

Oh.. and notice how people are being very defensive in their replies. Guess what? They themselves are probably terri-bad at GW2 so they are jealous of your sons mad skills. ANY time, on ANY game you tell someone they are bad, they lash out like a rabbid animal. Get out of Denial people, it will help you in the long run.

Great Post. Most people, for some reason.. just cant understand how to play MMO’s properly. They can’t understand boss mechanics, “class” mechanics, rotations.. etc.
I’ve sat my 18 year old nephew down and showed him everything there was to know about GW2, and he is just an idiot. He doesn’t get it at all. Any game, any class, any boss, give me 5 minutes with the toon, 1 quick read on mechanics and im set. Other people have to wipe and die over and over to learn.

Point of the story, your Son enjoys and is good at games like this. Keep letting him play, it will keep him out of trouble in High School and College (trust me lol).

This made me lol. Dagger Storm is amazing for aoe in the open world. It inflicts major bleeding, direct damage.. and it slows everything it hits (which means you can essentially kite everything and not get hit if the mobs are all melee). To say thieves guild is the only usable skill in the open world is kind of absurd

I got to 80 very, very easily with D/D as my main set, and P/P for Ranged, Champs, and Kiting. I always put my points into crit first, then 10 points into Shadow Arts for the +2 initiative every time you stealth (this ability is underplayed and it’s quite amazing). Then, points into the Power tree.

General Rotation for mobs

1. Death Blossom when in range
2. Cloak & Dagger (then run behind the mob and turn to face him)
3. Backstab
4. Heartseeker

Most mobs are dead by this point. If they arent, just start over again with C&D. Easy stuff.

For aoe I use Death Blossom x3 then the elite trait Dagger Storm. We have great aoe if you do this right.
