I always roam around in order to help my team, try to stay on point as short as possible and push forward to next endangered teammate/point. It’s obvious that personal score =/= your effort put into victory. With my playstyle I rarely spend enough time on point to gain personal score for capping or a player kill. Once I notice my teammates are capable of taking down the enemy, there’s no point in staying there. Also often just messing around the point prevents the opposite from pushing, proper movement and map awerness is enough to prevent from decap.
Obviously, these are, let’s say, ‘nuances’ impossible to distinguish for score system. Nevertheless it must be considered as another reason why personal score should be changed or deleted. I usually finish the match with one of the lowest scores despite fact I tryhard to help everyone and roam a lot to provide equality or +1 during fights.
If you are saved by a ranger that flies in and gets you up, wouldn’t you want to reward them? This alone puts incentive into doing well to help your team.
This, +1 for you fella. Bonus pip for being MVP chosen by team would be great. I’m afraid that sympathy of teammates isn’t enough when it comes to encouragement PvP players. Material benefit is needed. If being, for example, MVP 2-3 times in a row or when over 50% of team votes would grant you either extra pip or reward track progress => profit. Once again I underline the benefit word.
On the other hand, there must be put a stress also on the voting. Skipping that issue may result in making new feature a dead feature. For instance, in League of Legends there is (or at least ‘was’ some time ago) similar let’s say ‘team rewarding system’, but ‘giving +1’ wasn’t rewarded and imo simply rarely anyone used it. Title maybe? Glory? I have no idea to be honest.

In addition to two core ratings (one for unranked and ranked arena), a rating is also kept for each profession. More than one rating is used in order to encourage players to experiment with other professions they may not play regularly.
@v: I can neither confirm nor deny. I posted this because I was reading this article today and this part of text enchained my attention.

Many thanks for advices. What do you think about GS/Rifle, precisely I mean this one?
@up:
Nice to see I’m not the only one :D Thanks bro. Yesterday I’ve found GS/Scepter/Focus guardian quite nice and possible to kick some HoT builds. I think I’ll focus on warrior and guardian yet I don’t play a lot and these are the only classes I’m really familiar with. I saw here the topic designed for sharing own, non-meta builds. Maybe it will provide some ideas worth testing.
I understand your point and agree with you. I’d never try to get Rev daily in ranked cos I’m rubbish at it. I wouldn’t do Ele now either, cos it’s weak as. Wouldn’t even do Engi atm even though I’m decent at it, cos I’m not fully confident I’d play it as well as or better than the next guy.
+1
Since GW2 is targeted to PvE players (and I think they’re responsible for the issue) and focused on their needs, actually dailies encourage them to visit arenas at all. Otherwise a big amount of them wouldn’t head to arenas. PvP players as a minority as usual are suffering from that.
Thanks. I think I will just try to figure out some setups which I will find enjoyable to play. Maybe finally one of them will let me stay alive for longer than 1 faceroll done by new-meta-champions.
Hey fellas.
for those ‘TL;DR people’ – read the topic title
I’m GW1 veteran and I’ve bought GW2 in release date, however I’ve had a long break. Few days ago I decided to spend some time on ranked arenas. I have a problem with a proper build after a lot of changes connected with HoT, new elites etc. I used to play war mainly and I would like to continue eviscrating my opponents, yet I faced a problem: I don’t have Heart of Thorns and I’m not going to buy it. I know I’d regret it – my free time for playing ends soon and it would be a waste of money.
Yet, back to problem – on metabattle there’s only one build for warrior which doesn’t require berserker traits (GS/Hammer). I wonder if there is any alternative for that. Now I’m messing around with my old-style eviscrate axe+shield/GS which I ‘uptadet’ a little and I’m doing fine in spite of being kitten d sometimes.
Nevertheless I would like to ask you, if there is any other accesible setup. I know I will not rule the Legendary division. I just wonder if there are no builds on the net because PvP without HoT is unplayable or it is so due to people’s fascination of HoT specs which are btw pretty annyoing for me. I would like to keep warrior-ing, but ANY other class build which may be considered as ‘fine’ compared to new meta will be appreciated. I play rarely, but I engage a lot when it comes to PvP and I simply want to have a potential to maybe outplay some people without playing meta-setups.
Thank you.
@edit: here is my axe/shield & GS build I was talking about, I post it in case someone is looking for proper no-HoT setup.
variaties:
1) drop Bull’s Strike for Endure Pain
2) take Rune of Melandru instead of Hoelbrak
3) pick mace instead of axe for better CC and stunlock in order to land full HB
4) take Paladin’s amulet when toughness needed
