Hi, I started playing this game at launch, took a break(came back for a couple weeks and took another break), and came back and wanted to give some feedback on how I think the game could be better. (I came back after playing neverwinter on Xbone which reminds a lot of this game) I think this game is much better than Neverwinter, but Neverwinter has some things that GW2 could emulate.
To start off, I really like many of the changes. The wardrobe, transmutation charges, and many over-tuned aspects seem easier than at launch. Item rewards with selectable stats. Better drops in WvW, And I’m sure there are plenty more I haven’t mentioned.
Heroic-ness – Sometimes I feel like a hero in this games, sometimes it’s like sometimes it’s like trying to chop down a tree with a butter knife, some mobs just have too much HP, makes some of the fights too long and boring. The downed state is a cool mechanic but it is overplayed. Neverwinter has a downed state but it didn’t seem overplayed like it does here.
Dungeons – I played the dungeons my first two trips to GW2, but haven’t tried them this time back so things may have changed? Dungeons seemed easier. But there’s a problem when people want to cheese bosses, or when there are bosses that are ridiculously hard without cheesing them. When the strat for some bosses is just stack on top of each other and attack, things get boring for me. When bosses take an hour (hyperbole) to down things get boring. When people want to skip content in dungeons because it isn’t worth the time, it doesn’t sit right with me.
Community – The WvW community is great IMO. The community in PvE is also good but there is something missing from other MMOs. This is separate servers. What has been done with the mega-server is pretty great, but I don’t feel the same sense of familiarity that I do on separate server games. I like how I would run into people over and over and get to know them on other MMOs. Both in PvE and in Warzones.
SPvP – It’s ok, and Warzones are usually my favorite part of an MMO. The most fun I’ve had in Warzones to date has been StarWars TOR. Huttball, Voidstar, et al, were crazy fun. I would make some new PvP games and copy their format. I’m not sure if any devs have tried it but I would suggest it. Like PvE, SPvP misses the familiarity of getting to know the people you fight with.
WvW – Is pretty good. One small suggestion I have is to shorten names of enemies. It might be better as JQ Gold General, instead of Jade Quarry Gold General.
Story – The story is great. I got the living story season 2 and am looking forward to seeing how it turns out. The only issue, So many Items/rewards have been changed to let you select the stats you receive, so why not do the same with the ascended rewards for mastering the achievements. I payed money for this new story, It would be nice to get items with stats that I actually like.
Underwater – Cool mechanic, but I would leave it out of SPvP unless it gets changed so that no classes are far superior underwater than others
Crafting – Good up until 500. Why do we all the sudden have to buy an armor/weapon type that matches the inscription/insignia? It’s just a strange change from levels 1-499. I would change it to laurels and whatever for the specific insignia, and make the armor/weapon generic and not reliant on type of Inscription/insignia, like every level prior to 500. I would also make the ~450-500 skill recipes colored (not grey) so they stand out more when looking for them.
…
I was worried this would happen and it has. Not that the thief would get nerfed, but that S/D thieves would get the shaft when we weren’t the build people were complaining about, afaik.
When everyone is complaining about D/D backstab thieves, why nerf only the offhand? I have to work for my kills as a S/D thief. I don’t take anyone down in 1-2 seconds. I stack mostly knight gear which has toughness as it’s primary stat and yet before the patch a backstab thief or hundred blades warrior could down me in less than a second. My damage isn’t insainly high and now half of my attacks have been nerfed.
Sure a glass cannon thief could do ~4k dancing daggers, mine were less than or possibly close to 2k when i crit and I have less than 50% crit rate(I don’t remember exact numbers). I can spam three of those if I want to and then I’m out of initiative and have to auto attack and the target(s) still aren’t downed. Meanwhile a warrior can leap in, stun 1 person, and hundred blades a group and they are downed, and the warrior still has three weapon abilities available. After seeing the nerf I had to check to see if hundred blades was nerfed, and it wasn’t
I’ve heard of glass cannon thieves getting a backstab of near 9k and yet that ability is left as is.
Cloak and Dagger is my biggest hit, but takes half of my initiative (and i have +3) and yet it gets a 33% cut?
The main problem that has caused the outroar is that it is no fun to go from full to downed in 1 second. Even less fun when there is no way to see that comming. These nerfs do nothing to change that other than maybe the thief now has to throw in a heartseeker.
I have only run into one other S/D thief in my time playing so I don’t know why nerfs were made that ultimately hurt us the most. If we were OP then I would think there would be more of us, but there aren’t.
The Dancing Dagger nerf should be toned down and the Cloak and Dagger nerf should be moved to backstab instead, or even split between the two if for some reason you really think us S/D thieves needed a nerf.
I’m not even sure why there was a cluster bomb nerf, although that may be because I’m not a glass cannon. It is a slow moving ae that is easily seen and dodged.
Like others, I am not pleased about MF being a factor here. Like the guy above said, its going to make pugging more of a problem and I like to pug.
I’m not a fan of magic find in an MMO, but even that aside there is the added issue of it becomming a hastle. As it is now it is bearable. I go farm Orr, I put on my MF gear. I go to WvW or a dungeon, I put on my good gear. Having to switch gear and forget about it is fine. But now people are going to feel like they need to switch constantly throughout a dungeon.
Put on your good gear. Ok a MF boss, everyone put on your MF gear. Ok he’s dead, back to good gear. Another MF boss, put on your MF gear…
I hit like a wet noodle in MF gear and I can’t take a hit. It is just not fun.
I would like to agree with and add some suggestions. I am enjoying the game but this is the suggestions forum so obviously I’m going to just list things I would like added or changed so,
-Duelling
-Better LFG system: I made this suggestion a long time ago. It was to do what other games have done. Have a LFG window like we have, and make it server wide. when you type /lfg or activate it through the window you get the option to type in what kind of group you are looking for. “AC/CM/CoF explore”. This is a small addition to what is already there and would make it so much easier to find a group and not force someone to sit around Lions Arch waiting for a group.
-AFK flag: type /afk (message). you get a tag after your name showing people you are afk, if someone whispers to you they get the (message) you typed as an auto reply.
-More Emotes: This makes the game more personal and would help immensely in WvW where emotes are the only legit way to communicate. There are many times when I would like to express myself and find myself typing in an emote I would have typed in while playing EQ2, only to have there be no emote for it.
-Transmuting Named Items: This is a minor one, I think it would be nice if named items did not get a suffix (from sigils/runes) after being transmuted.
-Loot rewards: In high level meta events with chest rewards, it is better to fail the last stage of the event and keep retrying because chest loot is not rewarding. I understand loot is being looked at in dungeons and just want to make sure it gets looked at in event chains as well.
Farming: this goes along with loot above. Some people do not enjoy farming, yet currently it is the only real option to get what you want except for dungeon token loot.
I had the impression that GW2 did not want people to have to farm. Racial armor/weapons, cool looking mystic forge weapons, legendary weapons all require farming. A big part of the game is looks and some of the best looking weapons are the mystic forge and legendary weapons. These weapons take a rediculous amount of farming to get. Either farming for the mats themselves or farming for mats to sell to get the mats you need.
In my opinion, there needs to be more ways to earn loot and/or money. I love to WvW but the income from it is so poor that i’m forced to do things that I dislike, like farming, in order to get cool looking gear. I can’t even salvage the gear I can buy with karma in WvW because the last time I checked it was unsalvagable.
-Let jewelry be salvaged: I spent so many ectos and orichalcum ingots on all this jewelry and not that ascended is comming out we’re all just going to get a few silver back? At least let us have the chance to get 1-3 ectos back from an exotic piece.
-Wield/sheathe styles: Currently all daggers are welded downwards which is a viable wield style. I would like the option to hold it the other way, which is also a viable style. Also, currently with any weapon option besides dagger/dagger, the dagger is sheathed on the opposite hip which would be very hard to draw and wield in the current manor.
On a similar note, pistols are inconsistant in the way they are sheathed. Some hang in one direction on the hip, and some in the opposite. I think there should be an option for the player to pick which way they hang as it just seems awkward to me if you end up with two pistols each hanging a different way upon the hip.
-Lose Magic Find: I really dislike having this stat in any game I play.
-More Types of SPvP games: I played SWToR before this and played Warhammer for a while and about a months worth of WoW. All of these games had battlegrounds and this was my favorite part of all of these games to the point where that is where I spent most of my time. I hardly play SPvP here in GW2. I just made deer status a little bit ago. Just one game style gets boring no matter how many different maps you put it on. I also dislike how it is so separate from normal gameplay. I have people in my guild and in game who I’ve talked to and they mention how they loved PvP battlegrounds in SWToR and that is what they did most of the time too, but they have barely touched it in this game, or haven’t even tried it because it is so separate.
Even if new gametypes are added that renew my interest in SPvP, I feel kind of jilted spending all this time there but not being able to bring anything cool back to my PvX character. I’m not sure exactly what can be done about it now. Maybe awarding tokens based on SPvP rank that can be used to cash in for experience and gold to be used in PvX. This could be done retroactively so people who have already risen to high ranks wouldn’t get the short end.
