Once upon a time, there was that game called Diablo 3. For the sake of “balance”, the developpers nerfed every “OP” builds and abilities until everyone felt weak. They decided one day to buff some unused skills but it was too late. Gamers were angry and they left.
Feeling powerful is one of the ultimate goal when you play an MMO. If you nerf one ability because PvPers are crying about it, be sure to buff something else. You can’t just nerf something to destroy the supposedly OP build.
You nerf backstad too much and you destroy the daggers. Before playing a thief, I was playing an Elementalist. I was sure that thiefs were OP because I probably read too much on the PvP forums. I realised that thieves are the punching bags right now. They’re not as OP as they say.
Moral of the story: be really careful with nerfs.
We all know what is takes. Bug fixes and cooldowns. I dont care about the raw damage, its they fix this we will be strong.
Some people are annoying here. Its like everything is perfect. They are proud.
Fix bugs, tune casts, we are happy.
The problem is that there will always be an easier dungeon. Like it should.
At the moment, we suggest to do Ascalonian Catacombs at level 80 with Exotic gear and 2 guardians.
“- but the AC gear is so rare at level 80
- its a level 35 dungeon…
- so what? If you have gear from there, you’re a kittening genius.”
Robert, I respect your job. I also respect the Anet team, and its really fun to be drunk in this game.
I have the strange feeling that people make these threads because they don’t want the devs to take a look at the class. They want the others to look at them and say: “Wow, he know how to play an elementalist without sucking, he must be the best player in the world.” OR it could be a thief troll…
I know exactly what an Elementalist is, I played at least 60 hours at level 80. I also played Warrior, Necro and Ranger. Many of us know that we don’t have the best potential burst in the game. It doesnt change the fact that this class need fixing. I don’t want a 78% damage buff, that would made us OP. I will not write every single suggestions made on this forum, some of them are ridiculous, but some are pretty good.
I’m 88% exploration with my Elementalist. It was my first toon and I decided to stick with it because I was hoping some kind of damage buffs or even just fixes.
Now I can’t wait to finish this kitten map completion to play something else. Don’t get me wrong, I love the Elementalist. It’s just that I don’t want to play a broken and underpowered class for the next 3-6 months. They were pretty quick to nerf us in the beta. It’s seems that nerfing is easier than buffing for them.
And before some kind of wannabe pro come here and tell me I’m just a noob, no I’m not a noob, I just played other classes.

The difference is that you can’t really control 1 mob an entire fight by yourself like you could with sheeps or traps.
Oh yeah, I know. But I’m sure we can do better with CC’s
I’m sure the game is more than just “AoE comdo fields” everything.
This thread is more about the potential CCs a group can have.
Different targets will help in a couple months. The collective intelligence will raise.
So the only way is to AoE everything down?
- Add more symbols for marking targets in dungeons
- cost of waypoints need to be cheaper in low level zones.
- repair cost in WvW should be lower
- add a preview in the Trading Company
Thanks for reading.
I had a conversation between me and one of my friends about how WoW dungeons were cool in Burning Crusade.
“- Do you remember Shattered Halls?
- Yeah man, that was crazy. Crazy pulls.
- We had to mark every single targets for maximum CC.
- Yeah, the hunter had the blue square, the druid had the green circle, the mage had the star, etc..
- Imagine two seconds if we had this feature in Guild Wars 2? "
We already use the target to mark, but imagine if we could have the same amount of symbols like WoW. Elementalist, you take the star, Ranger, you take the circle, I will take the skull and the X, the other, make sure everybody stand in the combo field. What do you think
I just reread your post and do you seriously think that every elementalist who post complaints are noobs?
A lot of them are level 80 since at least 2 weeks. They know how to play and they have extremely valid points. The more you’ll play, the more you’ll realise that your damage is kitten. Even is you spec full fire-air-earth.
I seriously don’t know what people want to achieve by saying Elementalists don’t need tuning.
It will sound cliche, but wait till you’re in Orr. Every single Risne will be a treat for you and the only choice you’ll have is to go as far as you can.
Oh yeah sure, you’ll be able to kill some of them if you unleash “the terrible earth storm of the elemental dragon tooth ride the lightning overload”
But yeah, you’ll have to run. A lot.
Everything as been said, but I feel I had to write something.
Dungeons in GW2 are a clusterkitten, everybody running like headless chicken while trying to avoid the one-shot hit by the trash mobs.
I seriously hate doing dungeons in this game.
Should I stick with Ele and ride it out or is the balance we need only a pipe dream?

Yukishiro, I think everybody understand that, but I see a lot of people on these forums trying to say that this is only a L2P problem.
This is not “only” a L2P problem, after playing to level 80 with every weapons available, we can say that a person know how to play. There is no way that a level 60-80 elementalist don’t know how to switch attunements to get the maximum of efficiency.

This is one of the first time I post on these forums. I’m desperatly trying to find a way to enjoy my Elementalist, but oustside of flashy spells and interesting gameplay, there is nothing. I’m level 80 now, I hoped that after gearing up, practicing and reading a lot, I would find a way to make the profession rewarding. After a lot of gold and a lot of deaths, I’m about to reroll.
Yes, sometimes you can feel powerful is you unleash hell on a single target with S/D or D/D or maybe feel like you’re useful for the group if you use a staff, but seriously, this is bullkitten. The class need a huge damage buff.
I’m waiting for the first balance patch, but if they change nothing, I will reroll. Even if I have a lot of achievements on this toon.
