I have the same problem whenever I just join a random instance. It always seems like I get a low populated instance where only part of the map is being played by a group of players and the rest is abandoned.
That being said, I think the “problem” is that people are using LFG to be trained into a more populated map. I put “problem” in quotes because it isn’t really a problem, I feel like that was intentional. I feel like HoT was designed to force players to sort of group together.
Course, I also don’t have a problem soloing maps and usually only will join a populated map with LFG if I need to farm events for a mastery or something. If I am just on to play around or work on my story, I am plenty fine with how a random map is populated.
Course, I might be a minority here and my thoughts above could be completely wrong.
(Teal dear at the bottom)
seriously. i dont know how hard this gona be? they announce HOT. since Jan 24. 2015. before that. they took 3 month long break. this suppose to be preparation for HOT.
and since Jan 2015 there is NO living story updated.
well they do updated the licons arch. i dont know u guys. but i am not a very big fans of it. and some mini and outfit.let said they started the project on last year Sept. that’s almost a year. not even finish. God…
Well ACTIVISION release COD every year, Ubisoft release Assassin’s Creed every year.
IS HOT more graphic, more game play, more storyline then those game?
very disappointed.
Well… Call of Duty (COD) has three studios working on it (under the new rotation, used to be two studios), so each studio gets to spend three years of development time. During the first year, some of that development will be going to DLC, then they hand that torch off. The three studios are Infinity Ward, SledgeHammer, and Treyarch. That’s how Activision does a new COD every year. (That and its not like they are coming up with many new concepts.) According to IGN, Activision does it by putting 10 studios on the project at once. Guild Wars has 1 studio: Arenanet.
So… I think less than a year from announcement is pretty good, since larger studios have fallen short of that goal (343 and Halo 5, for example).
Anyway, OT. If they put all hands on deck, I think that they could get it released in time for the holidays, but whether or not they should is another matter. I don’t know if HOT is impressive enough to stand up to that kind of competition. (This year is shaping up to have a few big releases that, in my opinion, HOT can’t compete with; such as Fallout, a new COD that everyone always buys, Halo 5 for those who forgave 343, Gears of War, etc.)
That doesn’t even account for the side effects of rushed development, and we have no idea how much development is truly left in the expansion. They claim that they will be releasing in 2015, but I just don’t see it being the best option. (Of course, delaying to 2016 would be a big mistake given their track record.)
Teal Dear version: It might be possible for a 2015 release, but they are in a hard spot. 2015 = possibly rushing development and competing with big powerhouses and their new releases during the holiday season. 2016 = Disappointing fans and putting themselves in a situation where the wait has made it so the expac can never satisfy.
Used to. If it were the most effective method, they would still be doing it.
And no, my whole post was to explain that they could, in theory, never run out of alternatives while also maintaining a url that was easily deciphered, without any additional cost on top of buying the URL.
There are better and more effective methods available than a black list. Even if you automate the system to where if 10 players report the same URL, it is automatically black listed (bad idea, this would lead to so many problems unless you up that number considerably), and each report took 5 seconds (guesstimating here), it would take 2 or 3 seconds to change the URL. ~50 seconds of work undone by ~2-3 seconds of work.
That is the problem. Alternatives such as making an Anet employee handle the blacklist manually, or raising or lowering the number of reports before an automatic black list would just enhance different problems. It is so much better to just develop some algorithm that can detect, decipher, and flag (or, if accurate enough, ban) these spammers while also removing the URL from their message. (Then you have a near instant result to their message versus their 2 to 3 second investment. Those numbers are in our favor.)
I’m not trying to make you seem mentally challenged, I am trying to explain why this idea is a waste of time in practice. It sounds great on paper and in planning, but once implemented, its a resource drag.
Maybe a rephrasing is in order..

See, right now they type it in as www.some.url.com because it isn’t blacklisted, it isn’t banned, and it will display. Its the easiest and most recognized way to display it. They don’t have to worry about someone misunderstanding a vv as two literal v’s instead of a w and so on. In short, there is no NEED to type it any other way.
However, if they were to blacklist www.some.url.com, suddenly the NEED to type it some other way arose. After all, if they don’t change, then they can’t advertise! Oh no! (Well, not for me. I’d be perfectly fine if they just gave up at this point.) Okay, so what to they do? Simple! Let’s just type it in as vvwww.some.url.com. Same message gets across, and it avoids the black list. Oh? Anet blacklisted that one? Let’s change it to wvvw.some.url.come.
This whole process continues indefinitely because most (if not all) domain services allow you to make subdomains for free with your domain. That means that if I ran out of the many different combinations I could type www.some.url.com in, I could make a subdomain at no additional charge that said “pixels.some.url.com”, and suddenly I have a whole new slew of domains I could use!
Heck, depending on how pathetic the black list was designed, you might even be able to just create a redirecting new directory on your server.. or if you wanted to make it really simple, just use a URL shortened service. (I programmed one, you could even just make your own for unlimited, random URLs to the same page.)
I hope this excessive explanation helps you realize that black listing is not the answer, but banning and developing an algorithm that can recognize undesired URLs is better.
I prefer the buying system of this year’s season compared to last year’s… Last year I was busy moving and handling college/work obligations and ended up taking a long break. Missed pretty much everything but the end of the season. (Course, at that point, none of it made sense so I just didn’t feel like participating.)
This year, same thing pretty much. Moved back to college and it demands I give it attention :p I came back and ended up buying the previous parts of the story so I could be caught up. If you log in during the month of that part of the story, its free. If you miss it, come back, and want to play.. its a small 200 gold fee.
For a college student with very little income, this is a perfect set up. I can’t afford to dedicate a portion of my very small, far stretched income to a subscription fee, but if all I need to do is set aside 1 minute a month to keep everything free, and if I miss something, pay a small fee to unlock it (if I want), then I can do that.
Overall, this change was welcomed with open arms by me.
Completed our second guild wide voting event today!
We are still recruiting and are welcoming any questions you might have.
Home World: Anvil Rock
Guild Name: Eternus Proeliator
Guild Website: http://etpr.enjin.com/
In-Game Contact: ScarieXS
Focus: Casual, enjoyable game-play
Quick Notes: New guild, as of 10/21/2012 looking to fill officer roles and create a small community in game.
* Summary at the end of the post, for those who don’t want to read my ramblings *
Who are we..?
Eternus Proeliator, or Eternal Power or Warrior, depending on who you ask, is a small guild on Anvil Rock. Although we have existed since the official released of Guild Wars 2, we are now opening our doors to new members. As a guild we are striving to create a small, but effective, community within the game that is capable of sharing advice, resources, and effort to aid one another and accomplish bigger goals.
This is a relaxed guild, mainly to ensure that there is someone online to communicate with and an avenue for aid or event creation, if a member would like.
Who are we looking for?
We are currently looking for active and reliable members. Our officer roles are currently empty and need to be filled. (What does that mean for you? If you have ever desired to be a ranking member of an online guild, your chances are strong here as long as you meet the criteria. No waiting for someone to step down from their position.)
By reliable we mean that you will communicate with others in the guild in a respectful manner and be willing to interact with one another. There currently aren’t any official guild events. All that is required of you is to log in and communicate with other guild members. You may organize events yourself among other members, how ever we do not hold a required weekly guild activity such as “PvP Day”.
What if I have more questions!?
You are more than welcome to contact me in game or on the forum. I will attempt to answer any of your questions at my earliest convenience, but please understand that I do prioritize real world obligations over this game. (Don’t worry, I understand that everyone is human and also has their own obligations to take care of.)
All that I ask is that you keep your questions short and concise.
I’ve decided I want to join, what next?
Please contact me via forum or in game message and I will be in contact with you shortly to discuss your admittance into the guild. Please note that this process can take anywhere from a few minutes to days, depending on when we both are online and how the session goes.
* Can you summarize that? *
If you are looking for a small, relaxed guild just to have a sort of “crutch” in the game, and are a polite person, then please contact me about joining the guild or with any questions that you have.
