I’m looking for a sPvP guild that would be interested in taking a pretty bomb Necromancer in for s/tPVP.

I am currently rank 23 and I’m only level 58, because I really don’t care much for pve or WvWvW.

If anyone is interested in picking up a necromancer who purely has a focus on sPvP, please hit me up, I’m playing mostly on Yak’s Bend at the moment.

My current working theory with Flesh Wurm is that you need to be within 1200 geometric units of the wurm, as well as within a pathable distance that’s much greater, maybe near 4000 or so? If it will result in you being closer to the wurm, you can actually travel a path that involves you ‘shadowstepping’ away from the wurm initially. However, you can still end up teleporting to the bottom of the cliff your wurm is on top of if you’re too far. I think this is because if you followed the ‘path’ that would result in you getting to the wurm, you’d end up further away from it before you ran out of the hidden distance value than if you just teleported directly to the barrier nearest to it.

I don’t know if that comes across clearly, but that’s my guess so far.

Edit: Here’s the deal with Forest of Nihfel at the keep – the distance there to go from the keep capture area to the upper ledges by walking? Is gigantic. I’m very certain it’s out of range for the hidden shadowstep pathing distance of necrotic traversal.

Edit 2: I didn’t post these sooner, :x but regarding some earlier stuff:
Mark of Evasion triggering out of combat might be a bug, or it could be working as intended. That it doesn’t specify (Only works in combat) makes me a bit reluctant as I prefer listing explicit bugs rather than “That works in a weird way”. For contrast I’m adding the flesh wurm / necrotic traversal bit just because the range indicator for it lies to you, and it would be really nice if it didn’t. But I’m not going to call the actual teleport / shadowstep bugged, yet.
I can’t see the effect described re: spinal shiver’s and reaper’s touches recharges & tooltips being related with Spiteful Talisman. What I did just notice is that the tooltip refreshes to the correct, empowered version every time you leave combat. Maybe it’s like the opposite of the dodge roll traits: it only works out of combat, not during it. :P

This makes more sense, I was wondering if they had some sort of pathing script in it.

the way you teleport is literally just based on ‘can you get there without jumping in x distance’. If you can, such as walking around up onto the bridge, then you can shadow step up there and all that jazz, if you can’t get there at all without jumping/falling, then no luck.

This isn’t what I am talking about.

You can do this with the ramps and bridges on the Siege of Kyhlo you can teleport to up ontop of the ramp that wraps around the clock tower and also onto the side ramps near both mansion and farm. Also in the clock tower when a wall is destroyed, you can teleport up onto the destroyed/outside section, which is both much higher then you.

Teleporting will also work in Legacy of Foe Fire in the Graveyard. You can both teleport up to the small ramps and the tall ramps (the ones which lead towards Waterfall and Quarry)

Where teleporting does not work is places like Forest of Nihfel at the keep. You cannot teleport up onto the two ledges that sit near the point. HOWEVER, you can teleport up to the keep from ground level near the road pathing that wraps around the sides.

In temple of the silent storm you can teleport up onto bridges which lie directly over head, but you cannot do the same thing in spirit watch.

It is bugged. Its not some ‘jumping and falling’ mechanic.

Flesh Wurm: Necrotic Traversal

The Teleport function is very inconsistent. To explain I use this ability quite frequently as an escape for my necromancer in PvP.

Necrotic reversal can teleport your through floors of bridges and up onto certain ramps, but there are times where you set the wurm onto a simple ledge and all you do is teleport to the ground near the spot of its summoning.

I can post a video to highlight these inconsistencies if required.

Hello,

Schwarzoid here, looking for a guild to spend some time with and maybe do some sPvP or WvWvW with to kill time in with maybe some PvE on the side. I used to be super hard core back in the days of vanilla and Burning Crusade WoW and left shortly before the WotLK expo. I used to be gladiator during S2 as a rogue, but who really cares about getting top rank in flavor of the month classes. I’ve been an officer/leading role in 2-3 other guilds in my time and left in good terms with all, I just felt I needed to move onto other things. I played SW:Tortantic for a bit but jumped ship after 2 months of subs.

What I am looking for is a semi hardcore/casual guild which plays hard when the playing is going on. I don’t have the time to devote dedicated timeslots, but when I am on, I like to get things done and done efficiently, as well as having fun. Because winning is fun, right?

I’ve played GW2 off and on since launch but mostly just stuck around in the sPvP areas. Somewhere around rank 20 at the moment, so if there is a guild that would be willing to take a Necromancer, I’d really like to have a group of people to blow time with in sPvP tournies or just roaming in WvWvW.

I’m willing to speak more if anyone asks, so hit me up.

Good written guide, but a few pointers, I see that DS has perks. But what’s the main point behind it? Aggressive/conditions/tank? And also inquiring about tourney play, are u holding nodes/roaming/ offensive node holding?
Never doubt an ele since you say there easy, you probably haven’t faced a good one.
And when fighting another necro. Purging doesn’t win fights , if the other necro is smart he’s going to instantly stop your life transfer, plus sorb you r ds damage with his.

No weapon swap? A dagger in the off hand plus good timing to see you heal is on cool downs can get said stacks of vulnerability applied to you, if his weapon swap has a focus, there goes might stacks, and fury/ protection.

So what the looks. Of it this is a DS centric build??, try traiting more power/crit/ life force. I would trait less draining of life force/cd/ and stability

Just my opinion I do like it though, but next time go more in depth of weapons.

Weapon swaps will be scepter/warhorn.

Use the warhorn to roam between points faster.

Generally you don’t want to fight 1v1, you can, its just not optimal for a build where you cannot burn targets down fast, you are better off with teammates around you, especially when you can chain fear them off downed teammates and such.

As to the last part, it is traited for power crit and life force. I don’t get where the life drain and stability stuff is coming from in your comment, there is none.

Can people stop bringing up WvW, all WvW is sitting on castle walls spamming spells, and obvisouly classes with AoE damage will do better, and yes a condition necro spamming mark of blood does a lot of damage. This does not mean the class is balanced…

I just don’t understand why they aren’t fixing the bugs as soon as they can, rather then what they are likely doing now which is waiting to release a lot of fixes at the same time. I’m sure a group of professional developers and programmers can fix 2-3 bugs a day.

I predict that once all the necro things do work, it will become the next round of QQ from the bad players who QQ about thieves and mesmer damage. The only reason I could thing of the delay, besides that its not top priority, is that things would need to be rebalanced. Because lets face it, necros would have many viable builds that would be borderline ridiculous in sPvP if everything worked.

I have to agree, my opinion was completely false there.
Since atm I’m running a ’well" build.

I like those builds, especially when you grab ground placement on Wells then use well of darkness for that delicious aoe blind.

You just need to aim for tanky hybrid builds, but you also need to team to back you up. I just wish that there were good Necro specs that either had the escapes or survivability that other classes had.

Other classes can get the same or more burst then our Necros (lol was just hit for 18k in 2 hits by a thief) and they can vanish, sprint or teleport away.

Necros have a fear that can get dodged and crappy life steal, bleh.

20/15/10/0/25
Rune of the Wurm
PvP Berserker’s Amulet
+10 Power on kills

Why is this build awesome? Out of all the current necro builds that ‘work’, I’ve found that this little used hybrid spec packs quite a punch while allowing yourself to live for quite a long time as well.

First off, the build is ‘viable’. I’ve seen too many people insist that condition necromancers are the only ‘viable’ way to play this class to work in sPvP. I simply think they are trying hard enough to go out of the box and play a different style that doesn’t kill as fast as Conditions. While I am unsure of how ‘viable’ this is at top end tournament play, I have done well enough in several of them and usually can out live most people under non sub optimal conditions.

Which Traits do I run?

Spite: Reaper’s Might, Spiteful Marks
Curses: Hemophelia/Terror (either work fine)
Death Magic: Staff Mastery
Soul Reaping: Unyielding Blast, Soul Marks

Abilties: Consume Conditions, Signet of Undeath, Spectral Wall, Spectral Armor, Lich

How to play?

Use your staves as you normally would, try to combo your Chillblains and Putrid Mark as much as you can, but your main objective while using staves is to generate that sweet, sweet life force.

When do you use Death Shroud?
Use it to fear, interrupt people finishing your downed teammates, etc. Also for that delicious bursty Life Transfer. But how does Death Shroud work with this build? The fun part of this build is connected to the frenzy built into entering DS and the Might/Target Vulnerability associated with Life Blast. Pretty much, you always want to get several Mights stacked up on you before Life Transfering, your damage will drastically increase here while you are in Death Shroud. But this only covers the offensive aspect of Death Shroud, for this ability can also be used to generate a secondary health pool while waiting for heals to return from cooldown.

If you find yourself getting focused, try to slow with Chillblains and Fear with your staff, Pop your spectral wall and armor and kite around, then eventually heal if you get low enough. Once you heal, go into death shroud. You can buy a lot of time for your abilities to come back from CD while in Death Shroud.

When to use lich?
I will typically use this when I am first arriving at a point under assault, and as early in the game as possible as to get it on CD so that it can be used again. Summon your mass bone fiends, do your aoe vulnerability then spam that lich nuke, spam it till your finger falls off cause auto cast is broken. Either way, you should be able to kill some people dead pretty fast.

Why Lich over Plague?

Because you are a huge lich, and with Wurm gear combined with Berserker’s amulet, you can spam crit your main casted ability anywhere from 3.5k-6k, depending on how much vulnerability and toughness the enemy has.

But WHYYYY this build over Conditions!?!?

Because I am having FUN with it.

Problems with this build?

Guardians, or other Tanky/sustain classes. Warriors are still a pain, but they were always a pain, atleast now you can kite them around

Mesmers and Thieves do not present any real problem with this build, you can survive their burst quite easily if you conform to the play style well enough.

Elementalists, lol they still ez.

Necromancers? lol purge conditions then own them in the face when your death shroud is more effective then theirs

I finished reading the initial post, but I had to eye roll when ever I read the statement ‘conditions only viable spec’

Something tells me you have not tried out all the various hybrid/utility staves specs out there.
