Thanks Bill! Now I am happy again! This is the way I like to play Guild Wars 2 in it’s full triple monitor glory!

What would really rock though is being able to freely adjust all the UI elements. And pan our camera back even further. I like looking at my character even farther away, but those are just suggestions. The way it is now I am very happy. Thanks for hearing us and fixing it!

Suspended for undirected profanity in say?

And I guarantee you every one of those players were screaming it at the top of their lungs in channels that everyone could see, and directing it at everyone they could.

Big difference between that and a guy pretty much talking to himself in say chat. You even said so yourself when you made the analogy about a loud customer. If I was being loud in the sense of using mapchat or directing it at other players than I would understand the immediate suspension.

However, in my case I was being very quiet since I was talking in /say to an enemy who can’t even read it. Therefore I at least deserved a warning first. If I am nice enough to give them a ton of money, they can be nice enough to give me a warning.

It’s not too much to ask, no matter what anyone outside of the situation says. Do you think you would deserve a ban if you let a curse word slip out in say chat? No, of course wouldn’t. A warning perhaps, but not a ban. But if it did happen to you then you’d suddenly see things my way instead of insisting I am in the wrong. It’s always easier to insist everything is either black or white when it doesn’t affect you.

Most people on internet forums aren’t interested in right or wrong really. They just side with whichever side causes the other person the most grief. And those are the type of people who really need a ban. Which is exactly the type of person who reported me. You and I both know that person was not offended. They were just reporting me because they knew it was an opportunity to grief me. They saw me break a rule and they jumped at the chance to report me because they get satisfaction out of griefing others.

And it’s really sad that the anonymity of the internet will make some people jump at the chance to cause another person grief. Are people’s lives really so sad and pathetic that they resort to this type of thing? If the report function told that person that you were the one who reported them, I guarantee you these trolls and cowards would think twice before using it.

Good thing I have three accounts though, so their attempt to grief me really doesn’t work out like they planned.

Perhaps, but suspending someone without warning for talking to themselves in say is really overboard. Any company’s customer service who treats all instances as either black or white is not a good one. Situations like this should be treated as gray and communicated to the customer so an understanding is reached. Especially when I am a customer who has bought over $500 dollars in gems in just the past month. If my business really means so little to them that they’d ban me for using undirected profanity in a tiny vicinity like say chat, then they have their priorities mixed up and I’ll take my money elsewhere.

And we all know money is every company’s main priority, so the customers who spend the most at least deserve the courtesy of a warning. Yes, treating your customers who spend more than other customers is completely okay. Go to any bar/restaurant in town and drop a load of dough then come back the next week and see how much better they treat you. Now if I explode in a slur of nasty/vulgar/harassing insults to another player in map chat, then by all means suspend me. But don’t do it because I mumble to myself in say chat as a joke between my friends and I.

I just received a 72 hour ban for inappropriate language in /Say chat which wasn’t even directed at another player. Meanwhile everyone in map chat is continuously using profanity at each other, but I get singled out for something not even directed at anyone? Sometimes when I get killed in WvW I like to type in /say like the enemy players can read it, but I know very well they can’t. When I am playing with my friends and we are on teamspeak, we laugh about it to each other. We know they can’t read it and that is what makes it funny. We do it in /say chat so we can see it and the rest of the players can’t.

If people within the vicinity see it and are offended, shouldn’t they have their filters on? I can understand if I had directed it at another player (who could actually see it) or said it in /map chat where the entire battleground could see it, but to suspend someone for using undirected profanity in a tiny vicinity like say chat seems really overboard and unfair. Shouldn’t it have been a warning first? I mean, what purpose does it serve to punish someone who was not even harassing another player? It was more like I was talking to myself, if anything.

Meanwhile, there are players using profanity directed at each other in places like map chat which everyone can see. This is something that deserved a warning like “Hey, stop mumbling profanity to yourself, since there might be people offended by profanity who purposely have their profanity filter turned off so they can report you for it and laugh.”

Which is exactly what happened there. It was someone troll-reporting me just because they could. I guarantee you they were not offended since me mumbling to myself while dead on the ground is not even nearly as bad as what most of the players are screaming at each other in map chat. 99% of the time my entire team is a million miles away while I’m dead on the ground, so seriously who is going to be offended? Surely not the enemy players who can’t even read it. :-/

I rushed home from work hoping they would have pushed out a quick fix, but I see all our pleas are being ignored. Wow, I really wish I didn’t fork out hundreds of dollars on gems before you guys pulled this crap.

You are losing the faith of so many customers from your responses and lack of concern for our quality of life in game. The UI is such a MASSIVE part of MMOs. When you break it, you break the entire game. I was totally addicted to this game before this happened, and now I have absolutely no desire to play.

ANet, go and check my access logs and you will see that prior to the patch I was spending TONS of time in game. And now since the patch I’ve been logged in about an hour or less. You’ve ruined the game for me, and because of that I’ve closed my wallet to you. Don’t you understand, you are costing yourselves tons of money by ruining the playability of the game for so many of us.

If you don’t want to lose that income, I recommend you fix the problem ASAP and not wait for the next big patch.

I have actually heard other MMORPG players say they would not play this game because they heard it doesn’t allow you to move the UI elements… like every single other recent game in the world. So ANet is actually losing potential players because of this 1992 Fixed UI layout crap.

Please either revert it back the way it was, give us an option or command line switch we can add to our GW2 shortcut… OR do it the right way (the way everyone wants it and how it should be) and allow us to move all the UI elements around. Because now that we mention it, I hate where the target UI is. When all the craziness happens in WvW, I find it difficult to tell who I am targeting because all the spell effects light up that area of the screen.

Please don’t ignore us! We might be the minority, but there is more of us then you think!

Can I get a refund for $400 of wasted gems?

Segundus.2984

I recently spent between $300 and $400 dollars on gems so I could level one of each profession to 80 and exotic gear them. And I was REALLY enjoying the game. Then today’s update went through and destroyed my UI on my triple monitor Eyefinity setup. Based on one of the dev’s responses, it doesn’t seem like they are going to do anything to fix it either.

So my question is, since you don’t seem to care about your repeat paying customers, how can I get all my money back? Or did ANet just trick me out of a bunch of money and then laugh in my face when I told them they broke something? There is about 50 posts of people affected on the Tech Support forums too.

But for those players with single monitors or Nvidia Surround setups, you won’t be experiencing this problem. It only seems to be happening to AMD Eyefinity users. It worked fine (for the most part) then the Dev’s broke it in this latest update and claim its working the way it’s supposed to. Which translates to, “Oh well, you’re a small minority so we don’t care if you’re upset so we’re not fixing it.”

Pretty much what they did was take all the UI elements (Chat window, Ability Bars, Mini-Map, etc) and squish them all together in the center of the screen so you can’t see what the heck is even going on. Anyway, I digress. I just purchased all these gems within the past couple weeks. So how can I get all my wasted money back since they don’t care if I am unable to play the game now?

Thanks.

I second this user’s frustration. I am in the same boat with Eyefinity 3840×1024 resolution. The game is ruined now.

UI is now overlapping on triple monitor setup

It is definitely NOT an improvement. I didn’t care about the cutscenes or character selection screen because I only spend seconds on them here and there while playing. But the UI elements placement is ALWAYS in my face, so that really needs to be correct. I really wish us triple monitor/Eyefinity users were not the minority. I don’t understand how anyone can enjoy playing games with a single monitor. I can’t go back to a single monitor and I refuse to. I would rather give up playing entirely than play on a single monitor. I spend a lot of money on gems too. Well, ANet won’t be getting anymore money from me while the UI is trashed like this.

Man, I’m sad now. I was really looking forward to playing GW2 tonight, but now I am just bummed it’s broken.

I play GW2 using three monitors at a 3840×1024 resolution (1280×1024 times 3) and now the UI is all scrunched up and overlapping on the middle monitor. Changing the interface size does nothing. The interface gets smaller or larger, but the placement/overlapping stays the same.

Previously the UI made the chatbox all the way to the left and the map all the way to the right, while the ability bars were in the middle. Each element showed up on their own monitor and it was a much better use of free UI space. The way it is now the overlapping is making it unplayable and unbearable. Why can’t you just unlock the UI components so we can place them wherever we want on the screen?

As much as I love this game, I can’t play it like this because I can’t see some vital areas of the screen or even click on them properly. I notice that in the character selection screen the characters are normal sized and fit on the screen in their entirety like they would on a single monitor.

I would much rather have it back the way it was, because at least then I could play properly. Please have your developers and testers try it on a multi-monitor setup in both 4:3 ratio and widescreen 16:9 ratio to see what I am talking about.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE fix this as soon as possible. I can’t bare playing on a single monitor after playing this way for so long. It completely ruins the experience and game for me. I would appreciate it if other multi-monitor users would post their experience. Maybe some work around can be figured out, but I can’t find any .ini or .cfg files that would allow me to change the placement of the UI elements.

It’s definitely not working as intended. Can you all post your number of monitors and the resolution you are using? And if it is AMD Eyefinity or Nvidia Surround? How do you take screenshots and where do they end up? I will try to take one and post it here.

The chat window and mini-map go back to their old locations in windowed mode, however that then turns off the ability to control the gamma so it looks all weird and dark. This has completely ruined the game for me. It figures I just spent about $400 dollars on gems so I could convert to gold and level 8 characters to 80. Now all my hardwork is useless because I can’t even play the game. I am now noticing that I can’t click on certain things, especially when they overlap. So the chat window is preventing me from clicking on my first three abilities and the profession abilities that are usually above them. And I have a feeling they won’t do anything to fix this because we are a very small minority who use Eyefinity setups. If anyone comes up with a work around like adding a command to the shortcut like -disableNewFov or whatever it was they were testing about 6 months ago, please let us know. I would rather deal with the characters looking messed up in the cutscenes then dealing with the UI elements all squished together preventing me from seeing and clicking on things.

Charr Mesmer on BlackGate exploiting in WvW

I realize pulling someone is not an exploit, it’s one of their abilities. But manipulating the game so that you can use abilities through walls or beyond it’s quoted range is an exploit. Therefore this Charr Mesmer player is aware that he is cheating and deserves to be banned. I was able to right-click on his portrait and submitted a report for either Scamming or Botting. Please locate it and see that he is warned, and if he continues please ban him. If nothing is done about it then more people will get wind and do it. So please make an example out of him. Thank you.

Charr Mesmer on BlackGate exploiting in WvW

Segundus.2984

There is a Charr Mesmer on BlackGate who seems to be exploiting their pull ability to pull people off of siege weapons in WvW (while he is without Line of Sight and farther than the supposed range of the ability). Three times tonight this Charr Mesmer would go around pulling people off the siege weapons up on the cliffs of our base in the middle of their assault, which would prevent us from defending our towers properly. Had he not been exploiting this bug then we would have been able to stop their assault on our tower at Dawn’s Eyrie.

I mentioned it in chat and everyone seemed convinced it was a bug that he was exploiting, since he couldn’t get Line of Sight with his face against the cliff and also because I was definitely out of the abilities range. ArenaNet, if you don’t consider this an exploit then please let me know when you will be fixing everyone elses abilities so they don’t require LOS either. Fair is fair after all. If this is an exploit, then please find the report I was able to send in for him and see that he is banned. Thank you.

Camera control issues - a documented list

+10000000000

Thank you, OP, for taking the time to put these strange and frustrating issues into well thought-out words. I am having ALL of these issues, and the first day I played the game almost kept me from coming back. When I saw all the visual issues, camera issues, and mouse issues I was like “This game sucks!” and logged off. I am so happy I gave it another chance, because the game is amazing. It would be perfect if these issues were resolved.

But that is how frustrating they are! The game is AMAZING, but these issues make my “quality of life” inside the game so aggravating that sometimes I just log off out of anger and frustration. I play on triple monitors too (3840×1024) and the cutscenes make me sad because I can’t enjoy them when my Norn’s chest area takes up the entire screen. I can’t see anyones faces or legs in the cutscenes because its like zoomed in too far.

I also have to play with VSYNC enabled otherwise I get massive clipping, tearing, and what appears to be other windows flashing on top of other windows, almost like they are all trying to take focus at the same time. Of course playing with VSYNC on kills my framerate, and I have dual ATI Radeon 6950 cards which plays the game at 120fps when its disabled.

Please take these issues very seriously ArenaNet, because they are bigtime when it comes to quality of life while playing. You need to be able to control and see your character properly, since that is the majority of your focus throughout your gameplay sessions. Sooner or later these issues will get the best of a lot of players and cause them to quit. But a game this amazing deserves a chance to get them resolved.

Disconnecting while in WvW

Segundus.2984

I AGREE! I get disconnected a lot, but it’s not on my end. The game crashes to the debug menu saying the same file is corrupted everytime, but the repair never fixes it. So I run the repair anyway which takes 5 minutes and then jump back in, but then I have to wait another 1-3 hours for the WvW queue to pop. This is really frustrating since WvW is my only reason for playing this game. If I can’t play it, I don’t want to even log in. :-(
