I got my friend to get into GW 2 just recently, and to find out we both need to buy the core game again because it is included with the actual expansion? it is kitten!

The Problem I’m seeing is that it includes the base game with the expansion.
What about me who bought this game at launch?
Do i have to buy the core game Again , just to get the expansion?
