Gliders in BLChests, I'm not happy >:(

This subject has been covered over and over.

The same points keep being made …. you are CHOOSING to gamble if you buy black lion chests and keys. Complaining about your choices to do so is moot.

If you want a guaranteed glider, buy it in the gem store since you have no problems supporting Anet

Try slowly and carefully reading what she wrote, before you reply.

She’s saying that she WANTS THEM TO PUT THE GLIDER IN THE STORE INSTEAD OF RNG BOX… so she can just buy it, directly.

WvW Poll 14 June: Desert Borderlands (Closed)

A message from the WvW Team,
The next WvW Poll is up!
https://feedback.guildwars2.com
Please share your thoughts and feedback on the poll in this thread!

Thank you for posting these polls, especially about the Desert Maps. I’ve seen so many developers rely on forum feedback, when the “vocal group” is actually the minority who organize a posting blitz for changes that they want, but not necessarily what the actual majority of the player-base wants, especially those of us who don’t visit the official forums very often.

I rarely use any official gaming forums, mostly because I know how feedback from them actually works (for a lot of companies) and because I usually want to ‘Jay and Silent Bob’ several posters, after reading a few threads.

So thank you for offering these polls and sending out the in-game email notifications, especially targeting just those who participate in WvW, by making the mail trigger after completing a WvW task.

I hope that other developers will take example and offer polls in a similar manner.

Feedback: New Accounts Can't WvW Till 18?

Having a level restriction implemented, because vet players abused something, is rather pointless if the same vet players have a work-around and all it does is cause confusion and inconvenience to a new player.

Key word there is NEW player… which is what this thread is about. Experienced players knowing of a “workaround” is moot to the discussion.

So let’s explore that:

How would a new player know about the LA Portals or using Mists? “Ask in chat”, you say? Then consider what would give them the idea that there were any ways to bypass the UI restriction? Is a new player thinking: “Oh, it says I can’t WvW until I’m level 18, kitten that, there’s got to be a way around that, so I’ll just ask in chat!”

Yea… no. They’ll believe what their UI tells them, because there is no reason to question it.

You have to put yourself in the shoes of a new player, which is exactly what we’re asking the Developers to do. Its a bad design, it only punishes those that they’re trying to attract. Best is to get rid of it, if not then at least plug the workarounds if they’re that unintended.

So one more time: Whether I, or any of you, know that there’s a workaround to the UI restriction, does not matter. Its the new player that we are concerned about, especially those of us on the lower tiered WvW servers that want to attract new blood.

Did [GSCH] Gaiscioch actually leave SoR?

Due to server events and other reasons, there are a few GSCH members who are not native to Sanctum of Rall. Their total is just a drop in the bucket compared to the overall roster, so just because someone sees a GSCH tag on another server, even in WvW, does not mean that GSCH has transferred off of Sanctum of Rall. With ~750 active members, believe me… people would know if GSCH had moved to their server.

(Which will never happen: Anet will have to forcibly move us off and close the server.)

Unfortunately, other than WvW, there’s no reliable way to determine the server of origin of a player. A lack of guild management tools, plus being able to join multiple guilds and “guest” on other servers just complicates the job of tracking movements and activities of guild members.

So if someone (from a server other than SoR) notices a friendly player wearing the Gaiscioch na Rall guild name on their WvW maps, please send a screenshot w/their character name and tag to Foghladha. They may not be aware of our policy, so its best if he deals with it. (Including their GW2 Account ID would be a plus, just use Report feature to easily find it)

Engineer WvW guide

Hi, lately a “pro” told me that engis have no place in the current WvW-meta

LOL Ok, you can stop right there. The only class that “has no place in the current blahblah meta” is the one who has a clueless player sitting at the keyboard. A lot of people mistake having the wrong build for a player’s personal style of play, as having a bad class.

If a player can’t learn to play their current build well, then they have to tweak it until it feels right. If they can’t find the right tweaks, then they need to switch to another class that has a build that they can play well. It can be time consuming, but its not rocket science to figure out.

It just takes some patience and learning how to play, not how to plug-and-play. Sadly, learning to play a class well is something that each player has to figure out on their own, although they might find a decent rough guide in another player’s build. If they build it right, they will have a customized build that works best for them, and only them.

There’s just no such thing as a “bad class” in this game. Period. Its a ridiculous point to even try to debate, much less criticize and pick apart another player’s build.

TY for the info, gives me some ideas to try out with mine once I get around to dragging it out to WvW. Engineers are so unique and versatile, they can get rather complicated (and frustrating) to find that personal sweet-spot tweak.

Kessex Hills' Skill Point - Ol' Stinky

Sanctum of Rall server is bugged. I had to guest on another server to complete it.
edit:

I’d also like to clarify that for the ‘Tower of Nightmares’ release and ‘The Nightmares Within’ release, the skill point was moved slightly. It originally was on the tip of the peninsula north of the Eukaryan Caves and we moved it to the island above the Tagotl Grounds (the island just south of Viathan Waypoint in Kessex Hills)

Also, it is not above the Tagotl Grounds POI, its above the Truffle Pig Heart, where its always been.

Thats what I usually run. For the weapon sets I really switch it all the time for all the bosses. Sometimes I also use knight set instead of cleric because you don’t need that much healing power for all bosses.

Thanks! I’ll give this a good look, its got some elements that better fit my playstyle than the OP. I’m just not a fan of the SB or Warhorn, they’re nice and all, but don’t fit my style well. I also have a limited budget atm, having to gear three 80’s, which was a big appeal of the OP, since he approached it from cheap, too.

I found out about the regeneration when I was testing the fern hound regen. And I am glad that I now know that the leap finisher only helps myself. I always hoped I would heal the others and was wondering why it didn’t work. I thought the number might be too small to see but now I know why I didn’t see it.
What I like about tank rangers is you can dodge/block so much with a melee specc.
On high level fractals (I’m at 24 atm) thats decent. Hits are so big that you don’t want them to hit you but I can still facetank bosses sometimes for the full duration by evading their attacks + block with greatsword + massive heal if I get hit.
If as 2nd set you take the 1h-sword you have evades too.
It’s fun to play and it helps the team if someone is able to keep the boss away from them. Somehow I have aggro pretty often.

That’s good to know. I’ve always wanted to do a melee “tankish” type of ranger, but I stopped leveling mine when the ranger bot army ran rampant, leveled a couple of other classes to 80, and finally got back to my “main” and leveled her to 80 just recently. My goal is a build that needs minimal change between WvW, Open World, Dungeons and Fractals, and also fits my playstyle. Out of all that I’ve examined for Ranger, I think the OP got me started on the right track. My Necro was easy to build, now my Mesmer is the only one giving me troubles due to the unique style I play with it.

Weapons: I don’t like the Shortbow, but I do like the Sword and I’m starting to love the GS, since I started using it recently. Longbow I’ll keep for WvW, because its something that I do use a lot out there and can just swap out when I need. I’m not sure what I want to use for off-hand w/Sword, since all of the options are each very good on their own merits.

Arpheus: What type of traits and utilities do you run for Fractals? (as in would you mind posting or PM a build link?) I’m trying to decide which of my 80’s I want to run Fractals with. So far its been the Necro (still low levels) but I see so much more promise with this Ranger build.

For the regen boon: Put a healing spring at your feet and you get regeneration every few sec. If you stay in it for the full duration with a 0/0/20/20/30 build and Water runes you have perma regeneration.
The regeneration from your fern hound is weaker if you have huge heal rating because his heal rating is taken into consideration and not yours.
So your regeneration (only from the boon) is around 300 at 1400 heal rating while fern hounds was like 130-140 if I remember it well.

But the game is kinda intelligent. The stronger regeneration is always used first. If your 300hps regen ran out the others come into effect.
That is also why a ranger with decent heal rating is a good team supporter. Most have 0-400 healrating which leads to around 130-180 regeneration while if you give them regen you augment the regeneration to around 300+ with decent heal rating.
And with the water field theres funny things to do. Like Greatsword leap (#3) or 1h-Sword leap (#2 + again #2) activate another splash heal or offhand axe #5 whirl can be used to apply regeneration to team mates.
Also the Rune of Water is decent in my opinion because it offers like 1390 heal twice in the duration of a healing spring at 1400 heal rating .

Thank you for that explanation on the regen boon, I was playing with it last night and was baffled. I know someone else was trying to add it up, and could not figure it out, either. Also, my Major traits kept flipping around last night, so I could not tell if I was bugged and something wasn’t working right, or what.

Sadly, the Leap finisher is solo only. The AOE is Blast finisher, which gives great synergy to being in a group, since there’s almost always a Engi and Ele out hanging back with you. (well w/me, at least)

i really got to wonder though, is this kind of cheese build actually useful for wvw? sure its fun to win a 1v1 or 1v2 versus some guys who cant out damage your HoTs, but lets be real, this build probably isnt going to be killing anyone that decides to run away. people ignoring you because you do negligible damage and cant be killed isnt exactly a victory.

Its not a cheese build, just maybe how he presented it at first. If you read his later posts, he does mention that he intended it to be a strong group healing support build. That’s what attracted me to this build, not the 1vX aspect, but the group support aspect with Healing Spring and the AOE regens. I’m on Rall, so we’re always going to be facing the #4 server, which will be the Tier 1 “odd man out” server. Having a group support build that can help assist our smaller groups against larger group numbers is of huge interest and need.

Thank you for the explanation on the Centaur runes + Warhorn. I don’t have a Warhorn, so I was looking at it from the point of heal triggers, was confused with talk of a “permanent regen boon” so just could not figure it out. I hate to lose the gold I wasted on the Centaur set, but I am not sure its going to have good synergy with what I want to do with this build and I definitely don’t want Spring on CD at the wrong times.

Been playing with this build, pretty much an exact copy of the OP’s link, but having some problems understanding some of the synergies.

About runes, my idea of modification is not change to water, but go for centuar, then I will give all teammates 24/7 swiftness buff since in wvw mobility>all in my opinion.

I’m not seeing how centaur works with this build. What is triggering the swiftness buff? I decided to test this and I’m not getting any kind of “24/7 swiftness buff”.

To get 500 regen you need to stack the regen boon, the healing signet, regen food (for example peach pies), and 6 dolyak runes.

That will give you around 500 regen with 1000+ healing.

What regen boon? The fernhound’s F2 skill?

One more Q:
Ignoring the conditions and the pig sidetrack posts in the thread, have there been any tweaks to this build since this thread was active? I wasn’t a fan of the Flock runes, but can’t really find anything with a synergy that I liked. I tried the Centaur, but either I’m doing something wrong or the #6 Swiftness on heal skill just isn’t panning out as hoped.

CONFUSION needs to be buffed in pve

sPVP is a completely different game system, so any references to it shouldn’t even be a part of this thread. TBH, I wish they’d give s/tPVP its own Classes forum section, because many of these threads get confusing when trying to determine which game system a poster is discussing.

That said, this is a great thread because I’ve had great success with a GS/Scep/Focus confusion shatter build in WvW, while leveling, and now that its 80, I’m trying to figure out the best gearing, runes and accessories, as well as fine tuning its Traits. I’ve gotten some great ideas to try from several posts, so far.

I agree that in PVE confusion is… underwhelming, but either you have to increase its base duration or make mobs swing faster, which would mean they need to do less damage per hit, and you’re now talking about a total redesign of the PVE combat system, at least for NPCs. I don’t see that happening.

WvW… well, you can see the problems that an increased base duration of any condition would bring.

Either way, it would be great to see some Dev input regarding confusion in PVE. NPCs sure can stack it (Princess Dolls, anyone?) so if its a viable condition for NPCs to use, it seems only natural that it should also be as viable when used on NPCs.

Need Gear Suggestions for GS + Scepter/Focus

in Mesmer

Posted by: Sekkerhund.3790

Sekkerhund.3790

(edit: This is for a WvW build. I’m looking for Gear suggestions, as well as Trait suggestions, based on the playstyle details I give below.)

I’m trying to figure out what Prefixes will best fit my WvW GS + Scepter/Focus Mesmer. I’m good at learning to play a class, but not in maximizing its potential in a numerical manner, so I’m hoping that some of the WvW theorycrafters out there can help me decide on the numerical specifics that would help me best.

I can not provide a build link, because I don’t really have one right now, this is a work in progress. I can however provide some details about my preferred skills and play-style.

Style and Skill Needs:
My Mesmer is primarily to be used for WvW “objective zergs”. Non-negotiable skills are GS and Scepter/Focus with Blink, then Feedback, Portal, Null Field, Time Warp and Mass Invis are interchanged as needed. My play-style revolves around those particular skills. Dodge Clone is a must-have Trait for me.

I would like my damage centered around GS1, Confusion Shatters and DodgeClone Suicide and Scep3 Confusion. Also enhancements for my Glamour support skills would be nice. I swap Feedback, Null Field and Portal depending on the task need.

Gear Puzzle
I can’t figure out what type of prefixes and runes/jewels would be best for this type of build. It seems that I might need a Power/Precision/Conditional Dmg, but I don’t know how much would be enough to be effective, or if I need Crit % and some Tough and Vit gear. Most of my defenses are in the mobility of my play-style and I’ve read that Tough and Vit are not really needed, but since I have 12 slots to work with, I want to optimize whatever mix I need.

I need specifics such as prefix types and how many of each prefix types, as well as Runes, Sigils and Jewels. All of the build links that I’ve found, seem based on PvP gear, which have no prefixes and are useless to me other than knowing what Runes are used.

Traits:
I’m also open to some trait ideas, based on the above information. I’ve been toying with a couple of trait builds, but it seems like so many skills are useful, but I’m so limited in how many I can have. I’m looking for the best trait build that will allow me to swap Major skills as needed.

While I do appreciate “alternate” suggestions that folks may want to post, I’m not interested in that type of feedback.

This thread is called “I am frustrated and not finding this fun”. Feel free to open a thread about how awesome the FotM are.

It would be swallowed by the hundreds of screamingly negative threads, I’m afraid, and pushed onto the third page or so.

That should be a big clue to Anet, and the fanbois, that this event is not acceptable, as is, to the majority of players. No one can honestly say that they have not been frustrated or disappointed with any part of this event.

I love this game, I have over 800 hours played, and even I am disappointed with this event.
