Well there is no point in this discussion anymore since Anet decided to not even have a vote for the next season. They will keep duos as it is. It’s funny cause last vote people didn’t even vote specifically for duo Q, they just wanted teams out of the picture. Now they slap duos for half a year, without asking.

Almost every point I make will be towards growing the gw2 pvp population in the long term. Not like this short term growth caused by free ascended gear.

1) Make elite specs unlocked for free accounts in PvP. New players are at a CLEAR disadvantage when they play. Almost every successful competitive game provides equal grounds to even newer players.

2) Make basic hints and tips for newer players. Even loading screen stuff could help. The suggested build template was a step in the right direction.

3) Improve spectating and possibly add a record/replay option.

4) Reduce the effectiveness of passives and don’t introduce many with the next expansion. Things like frost aura, engi’s bunker down trait, dragonhunter’s stunbreak trait, necro’s chill of death trait etc.

5) Reduce the effectiveness of instant cast skills. Ele scepter air #2 is weak so that would be fine, but things like reaper shouts or GM spite trait that casts axe 3, steal, smite are not okay. I’m not necessarily saying give them a cast time, but a nerf in any way should suffice. Suggestions #4 and #5 will simultaneously improve ease of spectating with less “random stuff” going on as well as decreasing the amount of skills/traits with zero counterplay.

6) Make balance patches every 1 or 2 months max.

7) Add weekly automated tournaments for teams to compete for stuff/prestige.

8) Limit matchmaking to a certain range. 2200 should not play with 1600. Longer queue times are acceptable. Decay and volatility has been worked out which is great. Decay must go further than -700. Duo Q can stay or go, I won’t advocate any in this topic as I made another one to focus on that but there needs to be a vote. If Duo Q does stay, it should count both players as the higher player’s MMR. Right now it takes the average so a good player on a smurf can help his buddy by getting them easier matchups.

But what do I know about making a successful PvP mmorpg, I’m just a philosophy undergrad.

Playing solo in pvp somehow causes too much stress for me. I’d never set a foot in pvp again without DuoQ.

At least in lower divisions I don’t really see a huge impact of duos. We’ve won as much as we lost against 2 duos. We also have lost matches with 1-2 duos on our side and 5 solo players on the other team.

It works both ways though. When I don’t have any friends online, I don’t want to set foot in pvp because I know I’d perform much better with a friend. Why risk my rating?

I agree that the team with more duos isnt much stronger. However anet moved team Q and acknowledged it’s strength, by the same logic duo Q is also an advantage just not as much. And it contradicts the leaderboard, MMR is personal while match experience is shared with someone, always.

Another thing is that it is quite easy to abuse this system. Imagine 2 players with 1800 MMR. one of them hops on a smurf account that has 1000 MMR and duos up with his friends main. The algorithm takes the average so they count as 2 1400 MMR players. The guy on 1800 account gets an easier climb to legendary.

Yes playing with friends is nice, but the ability to duo Q renders leaderboards meaningless. It represents the skill of 2 players, not 1.

Secondly it skews high end matchmaking. It’s already bad to get a top 25 player on the enemy, but when you get one, there is ALWAYS a second one on that team. Of course we like a challenge but this isn’t correctly reflected in pip gains/losses.

Is it fair to have alts in top 250?

If there was an option to opt out of leaderboards, i would do it for my alt.

Decay & Volatility has been fixed?

Came back from holidays, played 7 games and wins gave around 5-12 pts while losses were 10-20 points. Seems like the exploit was stealth fixed? Ended up 1954 from 1960 with 4 wins 3 losses.
