[Feedback] PS Mordremoth Fight Replays

Today a friend asked me to help him complete the last few chapters of the HoT personal story, including the final battle with Mordremoth. During the course of the battle there were green personal story markers that, if approached, prompt a window asking you if you want to leave the instance (similar to the ones asking if you want to enter the instance). This is incredibly annoying to have to deal with every half a minute or so as you are chasing the various bosses in circles. A single unfortunate misclick can undo an entire session’s progress, which is what happened to me when I attempted to put a target on someone and the box appeared just before I clicked over where the “yes” button appeared. This was extremely frustrating, both for myself and my friend. Furthermore, the existence of these exit points are wholly superfluous considering that there’s an option to exit the instance in the form of a small (manageable…) door-shaped icon in the lower right of the screen. It would be excellent if these could be removed altogether.

Humans – Totally not generic. Nuh-uh. Definately.
Norn – Totally not just humans.
Sylvari – Totally not just humans made of leaves.
Asura – Totally not gnomes.
Charr – Dentists: they’d make a killing.

Lets talk about the new Gem conversion [Merged]

Gaile,

On the chance that you or other members are still perusing this thread, here is something that I think would be a strong compromise on the system. I’ll keep it short up here, and then go into detail further below:

-Let players choose the number of gems they want to purchase with a slider or number entry. Instead of having players input the amount of gold they want to spend, have them tell the system how many gems they want to buy, and have the calculator determine the [lowest] price for that many gems.

Additional details:

According to what I’ve been reading from your posts, the primary concern is that “A lot of newer players had trouble with the interface.” and that the rounding concerns were aggravating, which I will definitely agree on. Generally, you have something in mind when you’re converting gold to gems, and you know exactly how many you need. It makes sense that you select how many gems you want and are told how much that will cost, instead of the counter-intuitive other way around.

That being said, barring technical difficulties with the implementation, I cannot understand why we need to have these four (or more, after feedback is implemented) set price points. Why can’t we just say “I want to purchase 100 gems” and the system will calculate that out, and tell us something like “100 gems will cost 13g. Are you sure you want to convert?” “Yes” “Success!”

A system set up in this way would give players back the freedom to buy gems in the amount they want (which is important those of us in the supposed minority who want to buy low amounts for, say, transmutation stones/charges, something I have done frequently). It would also make the system more intuitive for new players while eliminating the problem of rounding off the purchase price. Everybody wins.

Edit: And if that still seems confusing for new players, keep the established price points. When you go the gem conversion screen, have it offer you the 400, 800, etc, you have now, but also include a -OR- “input other amount” option.

Helmsman lost his map to the Black Citadel

The Captain’s Airship in Gendarran Fields offers the capacity to go to any city free of charge by talking to the Helmsman and telling him what your destination is. However, if you tell him to take you to the Black Citadel, he takes you to Lion’s Arch instead. The LA button itself and all other home city buttons work perfectly.

Repro steps: Access the airship with a Captain’s Airship Pass. Talk to the Helmsman. When he asks “where do you want to go” select “Black Citadel.” You will be ported to Lion’s Arch.

I was actually really annoyed when they started calling me boss and acting like they needed my input, rather than doing what they were good at and coming to their own conclusions.

I definitely feel this. Seriously, this has been a complaint ever since the personal story where people get really upset about not being number one 100% of the time. I don’t understand it, really I don’t. The more complaints I read on the matter, the more I’m convinced that anyone in a position of power, not named “player character,” is an affront…

And the LS team this year is bending over backwards to put you, and only you, in the drivers seat. The amount of backpedaling they’ve done has actually intruded on my immersion. “Hey boss, what do you think?”, “Hey boss, who’s guilty here?” (Kas, dear, it was obvious in two lines of text…), “Hey boss, most of the world leaders are suddenly throwing hissy-fits about the summit, come use your massive influence to make them listen.” And then there’s my personal favorite:

Treherne: “I’m just here to listen” “The Commander is who you should be talking to.”

Really? I understand [at least some of] the discontent with him in the personal story, but the “damage” is already done. He’s the head of the Pact. Despite that, he wants the Commander to tell everyone what’s going on despite her having been gone from the pact for months! Treherne actually has relevant information here, but because he’s so ill-liked among the verbal playerbase, he’s sitting on his hands like everyone else and letting us do all the talking with none of the information. And to put the cherry on top, the Pale Tree goes out of her way to get all of her attendants to leave not once, but twice, to talk to the Commander secretly, because for whatever reason, she feels like the Commander is the one she trusts most.

Maybe I’m missing something, but isn’t all that kind of heroic enough? Where exactly are people stealing the “glory?”

[SPOILER] Who did you save first?

I saved Jenna first, Smodur last, for two reasons:

1) As a Charr, it was vital that Jenna both be saved and saved first. Can you imagine if anything had happened to the queen while she was at a summit orchestrated by a charr? The humans already don’t trust us, and our alliance is too important to risk. Fortunately:

2) Smodur likes the way I think. I took the time to kill the Mordrem Wolf assaulting me before I took a look around to figure out what was happening. Everyone seemed concerned with their own corner except for Smodur, who was racing towards Queen Jenna. He left his contingent behind so he could stand between the Mordrem and the Queen; I really wish I’d had the presence of mind to take a screenshot, because the image of Jenna cowering behind bodyguard Smodur would have been awesome. In any event, we saved the queen, and after that, I just shadowed my leader. He decided that Phlunt needed help the most, then he went to see if Knut was alright, and finally we came back around to save the two Charr attendants (who felt the need to inform us that the way was clear for our “escape.” Pffft).

Meanwhile, Smodur went off to go kill more things~

…And I’m supposed to respect these people?

Smodur was rather aggressive in my instance as well. I’m giving a pass to the “cowardice” of Jenna/Phlunt on account of the passive way they have to rule their peoples. If we were made to sit in chairs all day listening to endless regulation, with no time for swordplay, we’d be pretty worthless in a fight too.

A wish: Cutscenes in Living Story

I would also like to compliment the LS team on these little side conversations. I finally feel like we’re getting a story out of the “living story,” and it’s great to see. It’s easy to skip for grind-centric players while being very satisfying for people interested in a more typical RPG experience. I sincerely hope that we can get more things like this in the future (cutscenes would be awesome, but more of the same is still great).

Scarlet is the Best Villain

I had to log in quick just to comment on this. I’ve heard this theory a few times, and I couldn’t feel more different.I have zero moti ation to fight scarlet AT ALL. other villians aregenuinely despicable. There is a difference between hating a villian and just not wanting to deal with the villian. Scarlet is the latter.

Scarlet coming to LA?

I’m not sure how long ago Evon Gnashblade’s dialogue was changed, but I’m not seeing it reflected on the Wiki, and I’m guessing either at or shortly after the release of the Fractured update. You’re now free to interact with him over how unfortunate (or not) it was that he lost the election. He seems to be of the mind that we’ll be seeing Scarlet in LA in the near future. Seems like some strong foreshadowing to me…
