PvE primarilyThe 25 point Marksmanship Trait, Precise Strike, becomes less valuable as you gain fury or put more points in Skirmishing. It’s generally pretty weak overall for a non-optional 25 point trait. My proposal is to replace it with the Grandmaster Remorseless trait, and then have something a bit more exciting as the replacement Grandmaster trait.
Associated Risk
Is this a big risk to PvP play? Would this provide another cover condition for bleed stacks?
I completely agree with this. Remorseless really shouldn’t be a major trait but it also shouldn’t just be removed. Additionally to not nerf power builds with less precision I suggest moving Precise Strike to Master minor and merge the current Master minor trait (Alpha Training) with Opening Strike.
Currently you need to spend 30 points into Marksmanship only to fully utilize your minor traits for which you technically already spent points for.

Proposal Goal
Give the Ranger more control and predictability over its pets behaviour, more quality of life.
Proposal Functionality
Have pet behaviours be switchable between Passive/On Alert(or whatever this might be called)/Agressive.
Passive would pretty much behave like now, except that the pet wouldn’t get the Ranger into combat if only it, and not the Ranger itself would get attacked.
On Alert would cause the pet to defend itself when attacked (but not the Ranger) and also always attack the same target the Ranger attacks. Switching targets would cause the pet to switch aswell without the aditional use of F1.
Agressive pets would defend themselves and the Ranger and attack the Rangers target when out of combat beforehand, however they would always concentrate on finishing a target first before attacking the next one (to have an option to avoid having the pet running around being useless if targets die too quickly or the Ranger tags lots of different targets in a short time).
Associated Risks
Would make choosing pet behaviour a little more complicated (although more rewarding).
That’s not remotely true. There is not a single class that can completely ignore their class mechanic and still do their best. There are ways to shift them to more of a passive than an active role, just as you don’t have to trait into Beastmaster or slot pet-based utilities, but with any class if you don’t use your class mechanics at all then you’re leaving a ton of DPS on the table.
No other class get its damage cut to 2/3 just to make its mechanic work.
I would happily accept the drawback of noone tanking for me or no skills to use if I just get my missing damage back.
This is a common misconception that the Ranger itself is somehow “entitled” to the damage the pet deals no matter if it’s actually there or not. A large part of playing a Ranger is keeping your pet alive and there have been enough changes to pet survivability already to make this pretty easy everywhere except WvW zergs.
IMO, the discussion on pets is becoming overcomplicated. Why not just redistribute the power, fix the F2 timing, and keep them as-is? The pet is not the problem if you swap it, its the pet hitting things that is a problem.
Also I am not super happy with the idea of stow buffs and even less happy with a perma stow. The pet is part of me as a Ranger, it is one of the core things of the class.
You may not be happy about permastowing. I would be absolutely. Furthermore, if you could stow your pet, you could still use it like you are used to. And people like me, who don’t want to rely on the pet can stow it. Simple as that.
As Orca pointed out, some people aren’t as fond of the pets. The idea of the buff would be to appease everyone. Also, what if stowing the pet and having an aspect gave the Ranger some kind of aura that communicated to others they are in that “aspect”? Would it still feel like the pet was a part of you if them being stowed affected your physical appearance?
If not, I don’t think the aspect idea would be a necessity for players. There are definitely things that need to be done to fix Ranger pets in general, and it’s something we are well aware of. If we fixed those things, but maybe also added in the aspect idea, I think we’d be in a spot where everyone would be pleased, no?
Just musing!
Permastowing a pet really shouldn’t be the “solution” to clunky pet mechanics. The people who would prefer this over having the pet mechanics improved/reworked just shouldn’t play rangers, I guess.
1. Ranger
2. Necro
3. Thief
Who said they played on the newest version of the release?
This is what happened to me:
1) I create a fotm, and enter swamp. I am not in a party / I am alone.
2) Only after locating swamp do I advertice on lfg.
3) A ranger joins my party, ignoring my lfg comments (lfm zerg wars).
4) I kick the ranger, and the result is, I get kicked from the instance.
The exact same thing happened to me. This makes running fractals via the LFG tool a real pain because the tool is abused by players ignoring even the basic requirements for a specific dungeon (I’m looking at you, fractals-scaling-players-up-to-80-and-low- level-players-therefore-being-able-to-join-fractals).
The LFG-tool/Groupsystem really needs some reworks:
-The afore-mentioned bug/bugs
-A minority being able to kick the majority of the group (wtf was the idea behind that?)
-Instance ownership (even though we’re a solid group we’re considered GUESTS of one semi-random groupmember?)
Well Anet could counteract this by gifting every player in the game an amount of gems that is too low to buy literally anything in the store. Many people would feel forced to convert their gems to gold and .. voila. That would still be wierd and unreasonable.
What the kitteny kitten is wrong wih those people claiming that this is “just an obvious attempt to make money”.
Take a moment to look at the devs in an interview video or something. Do they look like money grabbing monkeys to you? No? Because they’re not. Why would they be? Because they work at a company? I’ll bet you guys that you work at one aswell if you work at all. So give them a break kitten . If you want to complain do so in a different way instead of this accusive bs.
Just had to get this out there after reading all that crap.
Now back to topic, I really like this concept. It is an established mechanic that is now being implemented into pve aswell to make it more innovative or difficult. Can’t wait to see bosses with this mechanic. A Ranger one for example who uses his pet to resurrect him if it’s not being cc’d.

The thing people don’t seem to get about ascended stuff is that it’s meant to give you more ar and therefore unlock higher fractal levels which provide a higher difficulty and better loot. It never was about the stat increase.
The sad thing is that Anet hasn’t redesigned the higher fractals and removed the hardcap to actually give use to the new highest ar.
If this update has been intentionally downplayed with almost no info at all and the livestream then being canceled, and I patch-up later and log in to find Largos or Krait as a new playable race…I will literally crap my pants.
I hope you don’t seriously expect something like that anytime soon..
Could be a hick-up in their “two weeks are over lets throw new temporary cotent at our playerbase” routine.
Or it could just be nothing.
The Krait in this update look different. They are icky and green. But according to the wiki, Krait have always had the ability to shapeshift. “When they come close to death they enter a frenzy which shape-shifts them to another form.” We never actually see this happen in-game.
They do in GW1.
And they didn’t transform into green ghosts.
The videoes are really kind of rediculous since Tequatl. Always pseudo-dramatic with a woman shouting at us.
Please god not another JP. Anything but another JP. They were interesting at first but I feel like they’re friggin everywhere now.
That’s a rather odd complaint considering that there were like 5 Jps added to the game since release, which is not an awful lot.
Proof that Scarlet is involved? How abour: It’s a LS patch.
What do you guys want to do? Wait for the release, so you can say: " Well apparently it was Scarlet all along and everyone knew it but me"
Better kitten about it know so we have time to play the content when the patch’s already out :p
They ARE available for players already. Tier 3 cultural Sylvari weapons found in the Grove for 63k karma each. Have fun.
Bread crumbs like this tend to be pretty difficult to connect into a meaningful narrative within the game itself when you don’t have a quest log to keep track of developments.
We have a PERSONAL story log. A Living one wouldn’t be so far fetched. For some wierd reason however it didn’t come to the developers minds.
[…] the Living Story rule seems to be: It is patch day again, be gone old content.
So sad and so true.
They could have permanently added some decent dungeons and later expanded on them, but it seems like they don’t want the core game to permanently change. Which is very odd after propagating a “Living World” and “permanent changes to the game world”.
This patch won’t bring an elder dragon, this patch will bring us the Molten Alliance 2.0, a lore-unfriendly alliance between the xenophobix Krait and the Nightmare Court that has probably never even seen the ocean and despises most living things. And of course, cause that’s apparantely the solution to everything that poops out of a story-writers pen (not trying to be offensive) it is driven by our unloved, comical wanna-be supervillian Scarlet.
I sure hope atleast the content will be good.
PS: How did the Nightmre Court get into Kessex Hills?
PSS: If all this speculation about the alliance turns out to be true, then it was kind of predictable even though they tryed to be as vage was possible with all the information.
Even though everyone who’s in his right mind eagerly awaits the story to get back to the actual topic, the awakening of the elder dragons, it’s most likely not gonna happen in this patch or even this year.
…until I found out that it’s been confirmed that it’s Scarlet again. Like seriously..the Krait are supposed to be Xenophobic??? Why Anet…just WHY?!?
Please kill her already and move onto the older, interesting lore.
Sincerely,
The majority of the playerbaseStop kittening complaining and telling ANet to kill off Scarlet just because YOU don’t like her. YOU are not the playerbase so speak for YOUrself or don’t speak at all!
First of all he said “majority” so he doesn’t claim to be speaking for all, obviously you Scarlet fangirls are not included. Secondly I assure you that there are enough players that hate Scarlet and just wanna see her wiped from Guild Wars 2 history and that they will never stop complaining as long as her story continues.
Just.. no.
This is what you want to happen, not what is going to happen. As the Living Story is generally adressed to everyone there probably will never be a hardcore-only content patch. Also they would definitely tell us about ascended armor crafting (which will be the main means to get it) beforehand ATLEAST in the release page.
