Xbox One & PS4 ports of GW2.

Dont worry, it will never come to PS4. Reason: Anet has made it quite clear that porting their game for different systems is something they simply refuse to do. PS4 runs on a system based on FreeBSD (Unix) … and thats it. They didnt bother porting their game natively to Mac or Linux (no seriously, they didnt. The Mac version is simply running in 3rd party emulator, while Linux users got nothing). If an emulator is all Anet wants to give, then dont get your hopes up for a native port (because thats what it would take).

That’s the PS4, Xbone is a different case that I dont know much about. If it runs Windows, then maybe there is a chance. I wouldnt get my hopes up here either though.

If you want to play GW2, I think you will have to stay with old-fashioned Windows computers. Sorry :-/

You honestly believe I’m incapable of getting Windows? … There are pirate versions with cracks and patches all over the place. However, I cannot say I enjoy using them.
So yes, I formatted my Windows partition.

But perhaps you are right… why bother? I guess I’ll go and launch Steam and throw some money at them instead of the gem-store. After all, they understand and do what Anet does not.

Bump for linux client.

I’ve been struggling with Playonlinux (which causes my system to freeze), Wine (which leaves me with a hanging launcher at 0Kb/0Kb) and Crossover (that runs, but crappy fps and no Trading Post)….

Seriously! I WANT TO PLAY THIS GAME!! (in Linux, as I dont have Windows)

+1 for the issues with the coffers.

Coffers in gem-store is pure fraud, in the same way a lucky-wheel works. Want to waste your money? Go ahead!

And for the normal coffers. Fine, I can farm them from holograms. But seriously, 3k zhaitaffys and nothing….. Like someone said: With this droprate, it is impossible to enjoy the event, because you have to spend all your time farming coffers.

To OP: Remember that the simpler a game gets, the more boring it becomes. You need something to fiddle with, you need something to “figure out”. However, if you really dont want to figure anything out for yourself, then be my guest and use google. You will find plenty of different builds there =)

Kebaa: You only have one alternative: Champions of Regnum on Steam.
But it is crap and old, so it is not really an alternative.
There are no alternatives.
Simply put, there are no proper MMORPGs on Linux.

But according to Phoronix, Blizzard is making a native Linux game, and they apparently already have a Linux version of WoW. So it is likely that WoW is the one in the rumors. So perhaps Blizzard will be the ones chewing the cake before Anet.

Oh and yeah, Anet, a proper Linux client would be awesome. I’d gladly donate to a Kickstarter project for that.

And this! +1 for that!

If anyone could find me a link to a step-by-step-detailed guide on how to get GW2 run on my Linux box with the same fps as I get in Windows, then hey, GIEV!!1
I am even willing to help out with writing the guide, I can provide you with insight on how it should be written for a noob. Because I can look at it from a noob’s perspective and ask questions to things an elite user would find obvious (I guess).
Edit: So far I have only managed to get about 1/3 of the fps I have in Windows, trying both crossovergames and Wine.

Yeah, move on to… Linux Mint (first place on distrowatch, but decreasing, while Ubuntu is actually increasing). Linux Mint is based on Ubuntu… so putting it on Ubuntu would still be the best choice. And the fact that Ubuntu is “for noobs” is even a better reason to put it on Ubuntu, it makes it so that the noobs can also manage to play the game, and those elite people that you talk about, well, they are the community that will take the game and make it available on Arch or Fedora or what not.
Ubuntu is the best choice, whether you like it or not.
Edit: think of it this way, once they get more skilled with the OS and move on, do you think they will have a problem figuring out how to install GW2 on whatever they choose to move to? I don’t think so. And if you are a noob on Ubuntu, would you have a problem getting the game if it was not really on Ubuntu? Yes you would. Therefore, if it was on Ubuntu, it would be available for everyone, the noobs and the elites.

Bump! Ubuntu is the next big thing, and Valve knows it, everyone knows it, Anet just have to admit it.
Put it on there, and the community will do the rest!
Yes, yes yes! Everyone would be so happy
hugs the penguin posted further up

What we all must remember is that more people playing the game, leads to more people playing the game. So, catching all the Linux users (who currently do not have a single option when it comes to quality MMORPG (Anet would be the first, so the whole Linux community would be all over it)), would lead to more publicity, more people talking about the game, leading to more people playing the game ON ALL platforms, there would be an increase in Windows- Mac- AND Linux users.
How can we not want that? I want that! Do you want that?
Instead of bashing this proposal, just “vote yes” and make everyone better off!

Hi!

Currently I’m running Windows 7, but I would love to get rid of Windows once and for all.

I did get rid of Windows once and for all two months ago. Which is why I don’t play GW2 anymore. If they release a native client for GW2, then I will start playing it again. Simple as that.

From now on I will only play native stuff (most likely from Desura or Steam). I will even re-open my WoW account if they release that as native for Linux (it seems, it might actually happen).

For me now, it is simple: Do you have a Linux client? No? Bye then …
There are so many games coming for Linux nowadays and onwards that there isn’t a single reason to stay on Windows anymore. Of course unless you want to play GW2.

But how about quitting GW2? Show Anet that you mean it! STOP PLAYING! And make sure to tell them WHY you stopped playing. As long as you dual-boot, why would they have any reason to give you a Linux client as long as you play their game anyway??

I will not play it unless they give a Linux client. End of story.
So long Anet!
It is up to YOU (Anet) whether or not we will see each other again.

(Oh, you are wondering why I came here if I’m not playing the game? Good question! I came here looking for a Linux client. Didn’t find one, so I’m leaving again. Bye bye!)
