Question: With these ‘new’ changes will it go back to being able to get a regular event chest on the same character as often as they do the event that day? I understand you only get the ‘special guaranteed rare’ chest 1 x per account per event per day, but will the normal chests go back to the way they were now that there’s no guaranteed loot or is it going to stay the one event chest from the mega events per character per day?
Hope that wasn’t too confusing, but I’d really like it to go back to the way it was before. Don’t care so much about the guaranteed rares. Just would rather work on a single character on these events through the day.
This change seems to be a temporary bandaid fix to a problem that is going to need to be remedied in the future anyway (as evidenced by the Karka event fiasco and the latest chest event lagfests). This problem is not going to go away just because rewards are less appealing. The problem is that the servers cannot handle the congestion of excessive multiple players playing in a single area.
The moment that another event comes out that everyone wants to participate in, this will come back and bite everyone in the hindquarters again. The bandaid is fine if it’s a temporary fix that is going to be addressed in an actual major fix somewhere in the near future. Otherwise, any future major world events akin to the karka one, are going to just be a repeat of that horrible experience due to the same problem that is causing this nerf in the first place.
I can live with the change, but want to see that Anet is actually intending to fix the issue rather than put it off over and over again. The PVE culling and the lag in major group events are simply intolerable and have to be worked on and eliminated in the long run.
I do not have the solutions to the problem. I am not familiar with GW2 game code or even coding in general. I just believe that this change is more akin to sweeping dirt under a rug instead of grabbing a dust bin and sweeping it up and removing it altogether.
I really don’t understand how anyone dies in this game. Unless maybe they haven’t got the coin to rez at a waypoint. Why don’t NPCs just rez at the waypoints? We do.
People will ALWAYS find the most efficient way to get what they need/want and do it repeatedly until it isn’t there anymore. Then they move to the next best thing and then the next best thing, and so forth. Eventually you run out of next best things…and that leads to leaving the game.
I think what is being forgotten in designing these things, from pen/shelt to the new krait stuff near Teq in Sparkfly Fen, to the changes to AC exp is that this is supposed to be a game. It is incentive-driven. No incentives=no reason to do something. Taking not only the fun out of something (with AC exp as example) but also taking the efficiency out of something (pen/shelt) is taking the GAME out of the GAME.
Please give the game back to the players. Let us have fun, Anet. It’s fun to get loot. I’m personally very loot driven and even though I have terrible RNG luck, I still get out there and farm me some pen/shelt to hope for good stuff, or run dungeons with my friends to get some gold …as in AC exp. I don’t do things that make me feel like I’m beating my head into a brick wall, especially when there’s so little incentive to do so (poor/little loot).
I am aware that the scaling is a ‘test’ for 4 events to see how it works out. I think it feels like a big failure, myself. Something else needs to be done if scaling is desired. Even if you just gave the normal mobs more health (not making them harder) it might help. But Champions go overboard and are normally a waste of effort and hit way too hard.
This is happening on Tarnished Coast on just about every single event that is put on a dragontimer site as a chest event. More guests than actual TC players are showing up and causing TC folks to hit overflow when they try to get into the event. I don’t think this double-dipping on events was intended with the guesting system.
I actually spoke to a guest today that said he watches the dragon timers on his server and TC’s every day and does both. So it is happening. Not sure if other servers are feeling the results of this problem (intense lag as Zayle mentioned, reminiscent of the Ancient Karka encounter…even on the pre-events, terrible culling issues, skill lag, etc.)
Please take a look at Tarnished Coast when investigating this problem. Thanks!
I would invite any Anet employee to spend a day on Tarnished Coast and go to all the dragon events and other major events that are kept track of on many dragon timers. I would invite them to not only try to go to the events early, but also try to go to one in progress like many do to meet up with their friends when they say ‘come to Claw, it’s up’ or the like. I am pretty sure the problem would be not only noticed, but even sources able to be identified as the root of the various problems.
It’s not just the fact that your friend who is also on Tarnished Coast can’t join you at a dragon event because there are too many guests, but the quality of play is at a point it’s a crapshoot whether you can even use a skill or not in the battles. I was horrified earlier today when the Jormag pre-events were lagged so badly that they had skill lag and you could only use auto-attacks. The pre-events. Not the actual dragon. Dragon was worse. I won’t even mention in detail how dreadful the culling is in these situations.
Guesting might be working on lower populated servers, or if people scattered around a bit more to different servers, but Tarnished Coast is being inundated and drowned by the influx of people just coming for chest events. It was already likely to be an increased number of people doing the chest events due to the better chance for loot, but adding guesting to that mix and having people straddling two servers and bouncing from their home server to TC after their homeserver events are done? That’s too much.
Please help with this problem, Anet. Otherwise Tarnished Coast players are going to be forced to guest just to be able to play the game. Thanks.
Guesting is apparently the major source of shunting people into overflows during events. Players are watching dragontimers and the like for two servers (their own and another) to get in more of the events. To me it’s exploitive, and it is causing serious issues on already high-population servers. Guests are able to take up the spot a player from that server would usually take, and thus shunt them to overflow.
I’ve noticed this bug, myself, not just in WvW though. PVE, I’ve noticed either 1) it’s other people’s chests I’m seeing, or 2) mine is appearing and no sparkles are on it and I can’t loot it. I don’t know WHAT the problem really is, but it feels like I’ve missed out on loot somehow regardless. What’s in that chest that’s on the ground by my feet that I can’t loot?! Meh.
While I understand in the age of Facebook and Twitter there are other social media outlets that GW2 uses to get information out to people, but right now the information is scattered and people have to hunt and peck all the sources (reddit, twitter, facebook, etc) to get any information pieced together.
My request: If you’re going to put out important information to people, be it about ‘working on bug fixes’ or ‘known issues’, please put a link in the forums to that information instead of forcing people to have to hunt and peck for it.
Also, on the front page there are symbols waaaay down at the bottom for the ‘Follow Us’ that have to be highlighted to even see where they link to. Please put text instead of colored boxes, or have a dropdown of ‘media resources’ or something at the TOP of the page so it’s readily available without scrolling if you want people to not only know what media outlets you use but also identify them clearly for less net-savvy folks like myself. I don’t use twitter, I don’t use facebook, etc. I just recently learned what reddit WAS.
So please, a few tweaks would be helpful, as well as putting all the information in an easy-to-find location for reference (ie. forum post with twitter links directly to the twitter or facebook location the information is at).
Thanks!
Just since the most recent patch this has begun to happen to me as well. It takes forever to load anything. Upwards of 5 minutes on a loading screen. Everything is slower. I do not know what has been done. I have checked but my graphics drivers do not need an update. Please advise. Thanks. (Using Windows 7 64-bit)
lol are u that tight that u wouldnt spend like a mere silver on crafting 10 of the lowest tier items to get the daily reward?
Yes. Yes I am.
>.<
I’ll have to defend these because:
1) Crafting – if you are level 400 then it shouldn’t be a least bit of a problem. If you play pve chances are you’ll be gathering around along the way, which is always a good idea. If you don’t – well you might start. Crafting 20 ingots or planks/low level foods is not that hard, takes seconds:P
2)Combos do happen all the time and that is exactly why I see no reason why they shouldn’t come back when they fix it, if they are working on a fix. It’s not our fault the thing was bugged and made it more difficult then it should. I actually liked for once killing stuff with other players in other areas then Orr and some were asking me to help them complete that and I gladly joined. The only thing I have is F1 skill on my longbow for burning as a warrior and that worked (most of the time). Imo this was the best way and best idea to bring people together to play because that is what this game is about. They shouldn’t cater to solo players only because the game is player-friendly and you can only benefit by killing a mob with another player.
3) Cmon man. Complaining about dodging? Like you don’t dodge all the time in dungeons and Orr . You get rewarded for something trivial, technically for not even trying.
4) Underwater – I can see how camping a spot can be a problem but there are plenty of underwater areas in the game, and tons of underwater caves that few players ever go to. Ever tried that cave in Frostgorge Sound with worms? It’s no different then killing stuff on land, this just adds variety. Who knows, maybe I could actually find someone to do underwater events !
1) Crafting 10 things is silly. It just is. Even if it’s planks or ingots. It’s forcing me to consume my own valuable resources to create items for a daily. I don’t want to consume my items, I want to sell them.
2) If my schedule is such that I am on during low population times, why should I have to hunt another player in some random zone just to perform combos to finish a daily? My time is precious, and porting around hunting and pecking or begging someone to come with me isn’t my idea of fun, plus porting costs money. I want that money. You’re forcing people to rely on others and that is where it falls through. Other people are not always reliable. MMO or not, cooperation doesn’t always happen. Plus, do I have to buy new weapons if my ‘new friend’ has only one weapon and it’s a combo breaker, and I don’t have a combo field weapon? Do I have to change my playstyle altogether just to do this daily and run with weapons I’m not comfortable with using or don’t like?
3) Not everyone is a dodge-professional. This is again a ‘hunt for a mob you can actually dodge’ if you’re not as agile or quick on the trigger as other people. That isn’t fun. Finding 25 different mobs is easy, finding that one that YOU can dodge every time isn’t.
4) Underwater? This wasn’t a chore really, but the competition for the mobs in the starting zones where there are a large concentration of events and mob assortments was a bit hectic. It was a bit challenging to tag mobs before they died. And so you say ‘go somewhere else’ …again, that’s time + possible money spent.
And a note on the combo portion of the dailies again:
I would rather they go back to what they had before where I could feel good about accomplishing something and like my fellow man being there, rather than feeling angry that they’re not putting up the right things for me to coordinate a combo with. Too much communication is required for it to work efficiently.
I don’t mind running in and helping people in events, sharing the common enemy, but I sure as heck don’t want to sit down and figure between me and someone else what they’re going to use and what I’m going to use to bring down x mob to get the combo portion of a daily done.
I was fine loading my character in, but when I tried to go to Sparkfly Fen, it got stuck and now it’s just …stuck on the Sparkfly Fen loading page. The circle isn’t even there. It’s just the page.
This is happening to me and my husband as well. Both of our games have this problem. Mine, for example, shows me ‘Downloading 407kb (0 kb/sec)’ and just sitting there. The number ‘downloading’ changes every time the game is launched, sometimes higher than 407, sometimes lower. It makes no sense. No idea what is going on. Need help. Thanks.
EDIT: Ok, I recycled my router and modem and it finally worked. Not sure if it was a fluke or not, but doing that definitely made it so I could get into the game. It downloaded right off. Hope this helps some people.
