Charr, the second smartest race?

Ooookay I think we all need to take a step back and breathe as this has gone from a debate of which race is smarter to a rant on whether technology is better than magic and vice versa. Which as anyone will know is a very apples and oranges debate as its hard if not impossible to compare the two effectivly and it can be said that learning how to cast the so called deus ex machina can be as hard as figuring out how to build a device to do the same job and then building it without the aid of magic.

As I’ve posted previously I see Asura and Charr more as equals in intelligence, they just have differant stances and means of utilising their intellects.

Though as for all Charr not being lazy… I think I’ve caught more Charr npc’s taking naps under bridges or wherever they think they can find thats out of sight of their commanders than any other race… so yeah it seems some have mastered the art of slacking off X3

What Hazmat was talking about

Hmmm, reading that it appears not so much to relate to intelligence then to a races affinity to the Asuran idea of the Eternal Alchemy, in which obviously Asura would come out on top of, while Sylvari would likely quickly pick it up with their thirst for learning new things and their seemingly natural affinity to magic.

Charr probably come next as they have shown exceptional feats of engineering despite their disdain of incorperating magic into their processes like the Asura do.

Humans again due to their varied nature come fourth as while some may have a knack for magic and or engineering, as a whole the race isn’t exceptional in these areas and average at best.

Norn are likely seen as too simple and barbaric to fit well with the Asuran view of the Eternal Alchemy.

Think I remember on the level above where the Charr tanks are and below the Vigil Outpost is a charr npc drilling recruits on the correct way to load and fire a morter, and one of the rules he spouts is that Whisky is to be kept 10 meters away from any morter or something.

That being said I also remember a conversation in the charr barrecks where two charr talk about a human who tried Charr Whisky and went blind for a week or something X3

Sadly it seems when people see horns and the hunched over posture the WoW players can think of nothing but bloomin taurans, which is annoying as I don’t see anything aside from possibly the horns that resembles, bovine features and indeed see hell-cat whenever I see charr, which is what they were going for as was stated in the old dev post on how they originaly developed the charr for GW1 then subsequently settled on the design we have for female charr.

While running about the Black Cidital talking to the various NPC’s I came across a rather interesting one on the bottom floor of the command core that shed a little more light on how new tanks are as he talks about how he only just figured out how to put turrets on the Charr tanks or at least he’s very sure he has as he only has it all worked out on paper with no working prototype as yet.

Hmmm, I’d say a 6/10, as Art doesn’t sound very charrish, though the last name fits an ele fairly well.

Randall Trickpaw of Ash Legion

My Charr mesmer that always does his best to keep up the spirits of his warband and friends with occasional good and bad jokes (Its rumered that Randall and Reeva combined managed to force an entrenched foe to surrender after the pair began a pun war that almost resulted in expultion from their warband), his name coming mostly from his random nature on the battlefield where he uses illusions and other mesmer tricks to keep the enemy confused and second guessing their and his every move, always having some trick up his sleeve to deal with every challange he faces, often smiling in the face of danger as he tries to keep the enemy constantly off balance.

Difficult to say whether Charr or Asuran are more intelligent as to me their more or less equal, just their methods of doing things differ, but I’d like to put foreward my idea of the shiny red button experiment.

Both Charr and Asura would likely spend time trying to figure out what the big red button does before pressing it or coming up with ways to press it while at a hopefuly safe distance while a Sylvari out of curiosity would probably press the button to see what it does without too much concern of the consequences. A Norn on the otherhand would be wise enough to know that pressing a random big red shiny button is probably a bad idea until they know what it does. Humans though vary greatly as some may be curious or reckless enough to press the button, while others may be smart or wise enough not to press it until more is known.

I think there’s a charr cub somewhere in black citadel who hints at having two fathers. He says something along the lines of “I miss Daddy.” and a nearby male charr says “I know, son, he’ll be back soon”. The older charr could be calling the cub ‘son’ as an affectionate term though, so it doesn’t necessarily mean anything, but I guess that’s up for interpretation.

Given that they are so militaristic, I would assume that Charr value breeding and keeping their numbers up. Homosexual pairings probably happen, but aren’t as prolific as the Sylvari.

Actualy thats a female Charr talking to her cub

Suggestion for Mesmer weapons

Definatly a good idea that fits the spirit of the Mesmer and some good suggestions for what to do for the skills so far and heres my input.

Skill 1: Dagger throw with chance to cause a stack of bleed on each hit

Skill 2: Dagger fan which throws multiple daggers in a cone in front of the mesmer and has a chance to cause cripple

Skill 3: Evade back and leave a clone

Skill 4: Blade dance, mesmer summones a ring of illusionary daggers that cause some small amount close aoe with chance to bleed with possibly a secondary effect where the mesmer can end the effect sooner and launch the daggers in a burst aoe

Skill 5: Phantasmal Rogue, Mesmer summons a phantasm that uses Death Blossom, or some other backstab like skill.

What do Engineers excel at?

Engineers are a sort of jack-of-all trades class that may not excell in any one area like another class might, but using kits you can adapt to almost any sort of playstyle and tactics that may be needed at any time.

Just try not to dwell on the small selection of equipable weapons which for Engi is Pistols(Main and Off), Rifle, Shield and Harpoon Gun as well as the lack of weapon swapping available during combat as this is replaced by the fact you can equip weapon kits such as a flame thrower or grenades.

Also I find you want to keep an eye on the F1-F4 abilities each kit gives you.

1. the Charr are like Orcs in Warhammer they spend as much time fighting each other as their enemies.

2. The Asura are the most technologically advanced race.

I’d have to disagree with both these statements as Charr don’t suffer the same aminosity(sp) that Warhammer Orcs do. Its more a case of Charr having a high sense of personal honer that they will defend feircly if its challanged.

And as for saying Asura are the most technological race… its a little hard to say as its like comparing apples and oranges seeing as how both Charr and Asura are quite advanced, but Charr tech is based on practicality and (relative) reliability while the Asura are more focused on a more magi-tech approach to things. So Charr the most advanced non-magical race while the Asura are one of the more advanced magical races.

Though on another note regarding the Charr tanks, just because they have them doesn’t mean they know how to fully utilise them as they do seem a more recent creation so Iron Legion is probably both perfecting methods of mass production of ‘reliable’ tanks that won’t blow themselves up, as well as still working on effective Tank Tactics that will still likely be a new concept to the world of Tyria.

I definatly love all the Charr NPC’s and how well written they are though as for Dinky, I think they were going for the sort of idiot-savant type of character that are generaly smarter than others or even themselves realise and it generaly only shows through in certain situations where its needed.
