Maguuma Here.
This wvwvw session has been awesome. DB and DH are both really good, and most importantly, it hasn’t been a stomp like the last 3-4 weeks were. Even if we’re probably not going to come out on top, it’s been fun all week and we’ve been able to contribute.
Hope to get matched with you guys again sometime. This is what a proper WvWvW match should be like, I think. Good hunting! We’ll win next time we fight! :P
It might be overpowered in PVE, However, I haven’t seen any mobs get on the forums and complain about it, so it’s probably fine.
Only one sigil can be active as once, as they said. Specifically, whatever one you start building first (first kill) is what gets precedent.
However, they last even if you change weapons. So you can use, for example, a Rifle of Bloodlust to build 25 stacks for 250 power, and then swap to a Greatsword of Force for +5% damage. You’ll get the 250 power and the extra 5% damage that way.
Worth considering. Just keep in mind only one sigil can be active at a time
I agree. I carry a Greatsword, Longbow, Axe, Shield, Sword, and Warhorn on me, and I want to learn Hammer and Mace as well.
They’re all exotics. I am so, so broke ;_;
Hi, Aspies! Hi, DBs! It’s been, what, a whole three weeks since we were matched up? Man, I missed you guys. Let’s have a lot of fun!
-Love, Maguuma
To be fair, the problem lies in rendering them as well. When stealth ends, they’re supposed to be in a “revealed” state (debuff) where they’re visible and cannot stealth again for 3 (I believe, may be wrong) seconds, even if their other stealth skills are off cooldown. This is to prevent them from chaining stealth forever.
However, especially in wvwvw, when they exit stealth, the game can be delayed in showing them again. So they’re not technically “Stealthed”, but you still can’t see them because the client sucks. Because of that, during this 3-second window where they shouldn’t be able to stealth, nobody can see them, and they can re-stealth when the debuff ends and it looks like they never were visible at all.
Thieves are still BS, don’t get me wrong. But the stealth mechanic isn’t fundamentally broken, they just need to correct the client not showing things it really should be showing.
Adrenaline skill on your harpoon gun. Don’t feel bad, I had to look it up too.
Sorry, Gradius, but you’re wrong on that one. I read the notes while patching, and I was one of those weirdos who patched instantly. Try throwing some in the forge and see what happens.
Yes, the patch notes said this. In fact, they seem to suggest you always get the same 3, so you only ever need to buy it once. Confirm this for us?
Same here. At least it’s a cool-looking load screen.
“The Black Lion Chest is getting a spooky upgrade for Halloween. Between October 23 and November 5 each Black Lion Chest you open has a chance to give you one of six exclusive Halloween-themed weapon skins!”
Reading is hard.
Arenanet in 5 hours: “It’s still the 22nd in hawaii you guys”
Defense = Toughness + Armor. All characters have the same base Toughness at level 80. HP is also an important factor: Warriors have the highest base HP in the game, tied with Necromancers. On the flip side, Guardians actually have the lowest HP, tied with Elementalists and Thieves (I believe), but with their heavy armor and Aegis/Protection buffs, they’re pretty durable.
Play to your strengths as a warrior. I go Power/Toughness/Vitality on my gear, and Defense/Tactics trait lines, and healing shouts. I have 28k~ hp and am seriously hard to put down. Others go for Power/Precision/Condition damage to crit and bleed, but then they’re glass cannons.
Pretty much, you can’t be a tank without investing in it. I do wish there was a bigger difference between heavy armor and light armor, though, it just doesn’t seem worth it.
I don’t remember specifically. If you solo, you can probably use it until 50-60 or so and not have too much trouble. Keep an eye on your crit chance and traits, though. Early on you can do lots of Arms and Power without worrying about it, but later on the amount of precision you need to increase crit% is just too much.
For sake of trait efficiency, consider swapping out after you get your next trait book (60, I believe). It’s a free trait reset and you can drop arms and see what else you like.
Lastly, if you plan on doing dungeons or wvwvw or pvp, use different utility skills. Shouts are great, physical skills can really screw people over, banners can support a lot of people in a crowd, the right stance can save your life, etc. At the very least, carry your Elite Banner in dungeons. Being able to instantly revive 2-3 people from down state turns a run around.
Personally, I use Crest of the soldier, which is power/toughness/vitality.
In WvWvW, I’ve found being beefy helps a LOT, since you can’t always rely on heals from others, and if you’re fragile you’ll explode without being able to contribute much. I also use the Defense/Tactics trait lines, with healing shouts and condition removal, so I’m incredibly hard to put down.
This lets you stay in the fight way longer than you honestly should, and keep throwing out more and more damage on enemies, which makes you very good for defending a point for as long as possible, and getting away from a half-dozen people even if they pile conditions on you.
This is just what works for me, though. I’m sure there are plenty of other good options.
Agreed. I spent some time trying to figure it out today. I just couldn’t get it until I realized they were removed entirely.
That would be cool, but imbalanced. Races are balanced around the fact that all racial skills pretty much suck.
The smart answer is “both”. Condition damage (bleeds, burns) go through toughness, and Vitality is needed to survive them. But without toughness, conventional damage will cut through you no matter how high your Vitality is if you don’t have Toughness to back it up.
Personally I use Power/Toughness/Vitality as my stats of choice. It’s a very solid setup. If you need something else (Precision, Condition Damage, etc), you can use those as well, but don’t completely disregard either Toughness or Vitality. A mix of both is the best. If you notice one is lower, focus on that.
Question:
My server can’t even take their own keep in Eternal Battlegrounds. It’s always about a dozen people vs 50 right outside of our spawn. Because my server is full of morons, they decide to try and fight against them.
The problem is that, against a larger force, and downed enemies will be revived quickly, so finishing them really wouldn’t help a smaller, dumber server, would it?
Nothing in the game revives defeated players. Elementalists used to, but that was a bug and was fixed recently. Downed-state revives only.
I do, however, agree that the description should be more clear. I had to test it myself to be sure so I didn’t drop it on defeated players and look like a moron.
They’re okay. Rage signet is pretty good for soloing (Up 50% of the time without boon duration boosts. Not bad), and Warbanner is kitten good in group play. You can easily turn dungeon runs around with a well-placed one that raises 2-3 party members and buffs everyone. Haven’t had much success in wuvwuv or pvp with the banner, though.
Juggernaut is universally agreed that it’s crap. It seems most transformations are bad. My Norn Warrior has 5 transformations (4 spirits and juggernaut) and I hate them all. 2/7 elites are good, that’s it.
Thanks for the build, Yojack. Been running similar (10 str, 30 def, 30 tactics, GS Longbow with shouts), but I think yours would be better for damage.
One question, though. It’s been reported that there’s a bug with warriors, specifically:
" Tactics – Quick Breathing: Doesn’t convert a condition into a boon (cooldown reduction applies properly)."
Does anyone have any experience with this? It doesn’t seem TOO crippling, but I want to know before I retrait.
Edit: Also, what stats do you focus on weapons/armor? I’m going Power/Vit/Toughness to ensure maximum survivability, and as it is, I’m hard as hell to put down. (Even in WvWvW, if I focus on escaping, I can get away from like 6 people. Of course, your condition removals and swiftness should help more, but GS also had strong movement abilities. Hm.)
Edit Edit: All heals are good, and I see you seem to prefer healing signet/mending. However, considering I tend to keep all of my adrenaline up (Adrenal health), I use healing surge. Your thoughts? Is changing worth it? Sorry I’m asking like twelve questions in one post.

My Norn is a male warrior, but I agree wholeheartedly. Nothing like leveling up after a dungeon and hearing him boast “The bards will sing of this!”, or while chopping down trees and getting a daily achievement, having him call out “I’m the master of life!”
I’ve always love passionate, confident, lively characters. Norn embody this incredibly well, and it really got me pumped up and ready to build my legend.
Maguuma player here. Sorry if you’re not enjoying WvWvW with us. You guys are outdoing EB at least, and there’s a reset today. Don’t ragequit WvWvW, the first dozen or so times you play it can be pretty unfun.
The game is only a month old. That seems long, sure, but ANet has been focusing on fixing bugs, and they need server data for WvWvW to assign things better. I know it sucks, we lost the last three WvWvWs ourselves, but the game is still very young.
Speaking of bugs, Qwert, what happened? I hadn’t heard of invulnerable keeps at all. The main difference I’ve seen is that Maguuma has more people than EB, not any exploits.
