Of all the MMO games I have played GW armor is ugly. No cool looking armor just to be cool looking. I do not know who designs the armor but why no cool swashbuckler style armor for light armor.. why is it all so ugly. I play a Female Ranger and armor is ugly no female style at all in the armor.. same with the male armor. I ultimately hate the looks of almost all the armor in GW.
I hate to say it but I agree.
The armor in GW2 is rather ugly and a lot of it doesn’t even fit the art theme of the game.
a lot of the looks and feel were lost when GW1 armors didnt make it into gw2 in any big ways… most of the ones that i really do feel conform to look and feel are either late game, or stuck in the realms of clique groups who run dungeons over and over together (at about 1g per run or better in most all explorable modes, 30g for a t3 culture chest really isnt bad… but good luck making that cycle rewarding, let alone fun while dealing with the baggage pugs bring along far too often)
Oh, another thing that’s a pet peeve for my friend and I, especially in regards to heavy armours: lack of neck protection. Almost every set features no neck covering, exposing one of your biggest weak points to harm.
I think guild wars 1 beat that one out of me after 7 years playing… but i agree lol
this is finally going to start saving me money since i can now sit still and not have to build a new personal guild bank every freaking month trying to keep up with friends who are bent on finding an “active and drama free guild” on any server where, “if you fall behind, you’re left behind” is the phrase of the day, every day.
at least now i can sit still and call them a bunch of bad names with total smugness and self confidence as they deal with their stints of drama and i still get leveling and event partners
If I remember correctly, I took this pic back near release of Prophecies. It was my first time doing their PvP… Ascalon Arena, I think? It was all low level PvP (I dont think anyone was 20 yet). And I thought I was teh awesomesauce for hitting 63 wins lol. I imagine by now folks have hit wins in the thousands. =D
and you were a monk.. the only monk in the entire arena unless the second one was on your team if the form i always suffered followed true for you :P
I don’t like most of the armor in the game.
I would prefer that we choose the selection of the armor. This way even though a thousand people are wearing the same armor…depending on their choices each can have a totally different look. example:
When you go to the vendor to purchase an armor you can select:Head piece: choose from the following: hood or Mask
Shoulder: choose from the following: plain or decorated (example spikes) left side or decorated right side
Chest: choose from the following: Vest or short sleeve or long sleeve or coat
Legs: Choose from the following lengths: short, knee length or ankle length (this goes for pants or skirts)
boots: Choose from the following: ankle high, knee high, thigh high.Anet could limit these selections to armor that is obtained from a Vendor. Armor that is obtained via loot drops do not get a selection..you get what is dropped
the shoulder thing is a very, very bad pet peeve to me… ive posted many times, but i think the graphic artists and designers for most games are missing 4 inches in one of their legs and dont see the horrid imbalance in 1 stupid big shoulder piece and a flap, maybe if anything on the other… doesnt all have to be symmetric, the named heavy armor exotic shoulders (pit fighter set @ less than 80) are perfectly fine actually.. but i digress
as to the head piece for medium, there are 2 other things available, though 1 is kinda cloak and dagger and the other looks like something from an 80’s si-fi movie… the head piece form the guild armor set (there is another version that can be gotten at karma vendors iirc who’s name i can’t conjure or find atm) has the kinda strange motif of covering all of the sides of the face, and up under the chin, but leaving the face and hair uncovered… and then there is that thief starter headband, you can put that on rangers and engi’s legally afaik by taking that piece, transmuting it to a plain white item (vendor bought, can’t be anything that soulbinds on use)… this will make it account bound, then you can put it on whoever or transmute it to whatever… i’ve done this a few times for shoulders and hats on medium and heavy armor characters since the normal stones are a dime a dozen (if your gear is 80 you are borked into doing it with a fine stone for each shift involving a level 80 piece) and you can do this with weapons and armors from the orders too if you are so bent btw.
the real problem with aoe is that the skills and targeting systems for them totally suck if you dont have some stupid tank there to hold the mob still… then we get into stupid territory with the weirdness surrounding how the damage is dealt by things like the ele’s meteor shower (first getting used to the ele i got flattened when not a single meteor touched ANY of the 2 or 3 mobs who were in the aoe field) Targeting is the issue, and while being able to point somewhere and say “kitten this spot in particular” thus denying it to your enemy (walls, towers, and other elevated areas in wvw, spvp, and even pve in some cases) you get pigeon-holed into bad places in other areas of the game. The mesmer is a prime example of why casters need lots of aoe… mesmers can pull off some incredible stunts, but in general pve you are screwed into long, boring fights with 3-4 mobs because you just dont have the power to stand there and spank them all at once with some hard aoes, similar issue with the ele… the ones they have hit crazy hard, but take time that you don’t have if you even might become the focus of their binary rage.
Actually, IMO… large AoE done correctly for pve belongs to the necromancer and their system of marks and wells, basically being a magical ranger trap, this is the correct concept, even if I feel the damage is rather lack-luster… it’s all there, you arent screwed too hard for a missed click, not rooted to 1 spot for an annoying long time where any interrupt breaks the whole thing, and there is no weirdness about damage like in the meteor shower.. also the cooldowns are not crippling on the necro marks.
Mind you, meteor showers, chaos storms, and the like are ok, but i think they might make better suited utility skills like the glyph of storms, and I would ask that if aoe takes an unrecoverable spanking from the nerf paddle… there need to be far more bouncing attacks circa mesmer GS skill 2, or ele staff, air magic skill 1.
And to the thing about tagging mobs for loot in zerg farms… the only classes who i would say outright are nerf at such things are the guard and elementalist… guard’s staff doesnt hit hard enough to trigger, and the ele’s aoes are way too slow casting and way too long to recharge if you don’t have the spawn locations committed perfectly to memory… Thief shortbow skill #2, cluster bombs, engi grenades or mine kits (flame thrower needs dps buff, but w/e), warrior longbow and GS or dw axe, ranger traps, longbows, torch skill 5, mesmers staff skill 5, and GS skills (ground target aoe, phantasm and cone/wave attack) and necro wells and staff marks are all great for just tagging in for some loot (and helping mow that group of ravenous undead and all)… so only 2 classes imo suffer from lack of ability to hit large numbers of mobs at once and repeat it fairly quick
and i still hate the dredge before and above any other type of enemy in both entire games…
only thing i hate worse than dredge was a “friendly” npc, Kormir, who i wish i had a /defecate emote to use every time i passed one of her stupid statues -.-
omg nostalgia is all over the place… ToA is now in godslost swamp, Brisban wilds is filled with ghosts from gw1, The Granite Citadel is there…ish lol, complete with a tombstone for Kilroy Stonekin, and a number of other collectors and hench. The statue of Dwayna and temple to grenth from old Lornar’s pass and the now non-existent Dreadnaut’s Drift are both also there… all be it, with everything in ruins. Same for Droknar’s Forge, and the Eye of the North itself (still wish i could view my gw1 account’s monuments), few things left of old LA, and that wizard’s tower that used to sit off Galrath’s cliff in Kessex peak is still there, but different. And don’t forget that the Searing Cauldron from Presearing resides yet…. Plenty of nostalgia to go around without opening up GW1 (though I admit, i still have it on my system too lol)
But for me personally, the stuff that really made me smile most in GW1 is all gone and forgotten… Like this little nook in one of the interim zones running from ToA towards the west where a very small, magical rock monument, not tied to any quests, was (and a boatload of imps as well), and the Fisherman’s Haven… and tbh, the shiverpeaks were far, far better in gw1 because I was running around on the peaks, not stuck mostly down in the ditches… and it was all pure wintery delight from beacons to droks to marhan’s grotto (a place I truly, truly miss as it truly was a never-ending moot in gw1 until nightfall came out) and not this silly green valley buisness lol.
But my heart truly belongs to the crystal desert, the ruined, silent monuments, half-burried in the dunes… a place that had to grow on me… and that I never fully appreciated until vanquishing it… but unlike most of the rest i’ve mentioned, it isn’t here yet… ahh, memories
I will get my ascended gear through the mystic forge and anything that DOESNT involve instanced zones (gimme zerg farm, you can take your clique elsewhere tyvmkthxbai)
BUT first i want to get my shiny legendary
BUT before that, i want to finish leveling alts and pretty them up with skins and exotics
so unless agony resistance becomes 100% required to do any of the above, the ascended stuff hasn’t even made it to the stove top yet… and that person who was wanting a quiver, check gw2 wiki… I recall seeing a recipe to make one that doesn’t involve unfathomable numbers of fractal runs to get it, though i also recall it needed 250 powerful blood—-pick your poison
The crazy thing, MF gear works for me when i am either harvesting (seems to yield more extras), or a nameless face in the zerg on a character who can tag mass numbers of mobs for drops… in any other situation (including from drops in dungeons and such) it seems my best loot from mobs and chests happen when things die real fast… while totally anecdotal, i frequently feel like faster, mass kills give way more loot than running from 1 to the next, to the next :/
This is the best I could come up with for my Ranger’s look. It’s just a mixture of Cultural Armor, Whisper’s Armor and the Duelist chest piece. I even dished out too much gold to equip her with a Quiver back piece.
She looks a little too revealing for me and I’ve tried exploring different options, but there are not enough short length chest pieces. A game based on Cosmetics, but lacks a variety of cosmetics. -_- The irony. I would kill for some of the GW1 skins.
nice touch with those human cultural legs… but I would like to point out that a revealing outfit doesn’t mean that my character in “full plate armor” is only shown as covered by an eye-patch bikini top, butt-floss “pants”, stringy clear-heeled boots, and a tiara…(though if such a thing was out there i would probably find myself putting characters in it until the giggle factor wore off) your picture there is more to what I was getting at, and I agree, more options are always welcome… since heavy armor classes are generally more my speed, the set i point to as being classy, but not stuffy is the karma armor set from snowden drifts and kessex hills… but it could use a better hat :P
As for stuff in the future, remember this game is only like 5 months old, and they are (hopefully) still focusing on bug hunting and the like more, so i take the crummy armor choices in stride atm because they really still are just getting started
Heh, armors in this game are mostly ok looking, but Medium needs way more sets of slimmer and more revealing stuff to balance the trench coat mafia look going on, and all that needs to be outside of the realms of 20-30g per-piece of cultural armors… but some armor names or general discriptions for medium wearers:
—-It should be noted this is all for human, norn, and sylvari female character models… i personally get bored staring at a guy’s butt all day, and have never really considered playing charr or asura… they don’t suit me—
Duelist set, the chest specifically (same skin as the armors named for GW1 characters)
Norn T1 and T2 cultural legs
Human T3 Cultural Chest/legs (nice full suit, except wtf is with the sandals? and 30g and 25g for those chest and legs respectively btw)
Sylvari T1 chest, but the plant stuff is hard to mix with other sets…
Vigil Medium Legs (but the bikini bottom thing is thick enough to pass as a diaper)
Medium is the worst by far if you are looking for wide variation, and you will be stuck mixing armor sets if you want any kind of revealing look… I’ve had no such issue finding heavy and light mixes when going for that kind of look.
But I also want to point out: It seems all the armor models have been designed to work off a single skin that gets wrapped around all the various meshes out there. (pretty sure I’ve seen a dev make a written reference to this too somewhere) While this is probably for performance, it effects other stuff in really strange ways.
Prime examples can be seen on human vs norn shoulder and skirt-type items, where the garments generally hang properly on the humans, but for some reason they flare out in really awkward ways around the norns, or in the shoulders case, float way off the character’s actual shoulder in a way that even the full and proper set frequently doesn’t lend any sense to… the shoulders for sure is because female norn shoulders are generally much more flat horizontally than human shoulders that hang seemingly more naturally, and the skirts and coat tails, probably for similar reasons. And don’t get me started on the bone-headed choices for asymmetric shoulders (I should find these people and make their heads asymmetric for all those murdered potential looks)
Pointing all that out because more than just the armor itself can make it look really nice, or really stupid.. here’s to hoping for more variety and better fitting clothes in the future though!
Fears: Weird nerfs for classes that I prefer to see expanded or buffed in weaker fields rather than just a knee-jerk nerfing of OP builds (Engi’s and Ele’s are my two who have both suffered this one hardcore)
And the fear that a lot of my weaker pve characters will not be getting any better.
Hopes: Characters weaker in pve (mesmer, ele, etc) get some performance boost to make up for the issues caused by having to build up that uber dps against something that dies half way through it and leaves it’s 2 or 3 friends to kill you in the mean time.
Fractal DC fix (gawd this would have been nice to see earlier, and i hope it applies to other things like personal stories too…. almost smashed my keyboard one night when i DC’d right before choosing my path at the end of the level 55 story two different times)
Better open world loot for people who are not constantly running around in groups of 5
Prices on the AH comming down a bit because of better open world loot (some of this is insane if you aren’t attached at the hips to a clique of dungeon spammers)
New stuff for this new story bit they are starting
Not in the patch, but praying for near future: Frostgorge needs to be 80 only because Orr needs to sink back under the water (tired of looking at water logged dead things all the time)
Or other, newer, NOT UNDEAD level 80 only zones… or additions to southsun cove to draw people into there for things like event spamming, I’m guessing this is the reason that zone is pretty much dead outside of people hitting that ori vein or the few bots still out farming the young karkas on the beach…
NEWER BETTER SHOULDER ARMOR SKINS… pet peeve of mine, includes alterations to make some not stick up so far off characters (norns have this one in a hideous way) and the addition of symmetrical options to many of the skins already out there (vigil heavy shoulders for me personally, number of medium ones would make me very happy if they weren’t single-shoulder as well)
Lets add some newer, slimmer or even sexy medium armor to complement the trench coat mafia thing going on there
Ele’s air attribute needs to be less about running away and more about facerolling single targets (wth happened to my invoke/chain lightning, or dual attuned lightning hammer builds from gw1… why did air become the twisted panties running away element?)
And finish the wishlist with a little disambiguation in game to trait choices, including internal cooldown timers, effects on utility skills (like traits that trigger skills available elsewhere automatically) and simple sigil interactions with something like “stacking” or “non-stacking” etc written in the in game discription rather than having to fish it out of the wiki would be nice.
I think you may be used to the old school type MMOs which have quest hubs with players gathered around those hubs. Due to the dynamic nature of GW2 it works much differently.
I can be standing in an area and it looks deserted, like this:
Ten minutes later an event spawns and all kitten breaks loose:
After the event everyone dissapates to whatever they were doing before the event and it looks just as deserted as it did before the event.
Go to any of the large meta events with the big chests. You will see tons of people.
Pic 1: “Wtf is nukes?”
Pic 2: " HOLY @#$% HOLY @#$% HOLY @#$%!!!"
Actually to those pointing out how this thread will be gone very shortly after the patch rolls out: you shoulda seen FUncom’s age of failanan forums when their khitai expansion got pushed back by something close to 24 hours iirc… thing lit on fire and was actually very, very entertaining, even if 10 more pages got added to the pile in the time it took to read just 1…
Since that particular one I kinda wonder if the devs save things like this for humor lol (even though this one is rather pedestrian by comparison)
Clearly the EU has different timezones lol…
But that doesn’t change the fact Anet’s company time is PST… so whether they type it out or not, this is going to effect anything time or date related they post. And this is why I fired back at your “big dumb American” sentiment, just take any time or date they post as PST and adjust to your timezone accordingly rather than getting your panties in a twist under your lawsuit
I really think they’d save themselves a lot of bother if they’d just announce update dates properly.
28th US
29th EU
29th AUS / Asia. It’s not hard is it? It’s just a couple of seconds extra typing. Gotta laugh at the Americans saying “oh it’s obvious that it’s catered for us” – showing their typical total ignorance of the rest of the world.
And the rest of the world showing their typical inability or unwillingness to perform logic surrounding something like timezones and the physical location of anet’s offices. (It’s why the USA is still #1)
