I agree that the game should be a we thing and not a me thing but i feel that anet are the ones that forget that. The living story is suppose to be for everyone in the game with a few raid style bosses thrown in for the few pro players who want a challenge. The main parts of the living story should be able to be completed by people who are not lvl 80 in full exotics but these boss fights in the main story parts of the living story show that anet has forgotten about this. I am not saying that they should be easy but maybe come up with some better mechanics that don’t rely so heavily on how much dps you can dish out. I wish they would make more boss fights like the maw in fractals where you don’t damage it directly but do things to take its health down in increments so it doesn’t matter what your build is but instead how you play the game.
The run i just did of the aetherblade path in TA shows how bad this whole thing is. My guild mate wanted to try it so we got a group of random classes and had some problems but got stuck on slick. Was gonna give up when we decided to change to our warriors and guardians and try again. not only did we beat slick with ease but we finished the whole dungeon without any more major problems. I think this shows a major imbalance in the power and survive ability of the heavy classes in this game compared to everything else. I know other classes have their place but it seems everything is easier with a heavy class so we see more of them.
I get that they want us to have an opportunity to show off our gear, but seriously why does everything have to be about hitting stuff till it dies? Why cant they come up with some better mechanics than that? Take the marionette event, you have to have a lot of people to do it because every step is dps race against a timer. Step 2 where you have to drag the guy back into the mines before u can try and dps him down is a good example of what im talking about. Why not think of cooler mechanics like a hot potato game where the guy with the potato attracts the guy with the bomb but u have to pass it to the other players before it goes off and when he hits his own bomb it does a set amount of damage so it doesn’t matter what gear you have or what level you are. i think that’s a better way to do a community wide world event where everyone has to cooperate but doesn’t have to be an elite with the best gear to do the event. Sorry i just needed to vent a bit. =)
Haven’t seen anyone talk about this but did we vote for Scarlet to be our nemesis when we voted for Ellen Kiel and chose the reactor fractal? Anet already said that they don’t wanna just add new things without a story behind it so when we chose the reactor did that mean they made Scarlet to go along with that fractal. Scarlet suddenly showed herself after the patch where we voted for Ellen and there wasn’t much description on who was behind everything until this point. It would have been easy to put in whoever they wanted to be behind everything. If we chose the Abaddon fractal would that mean we would have had a completely different nemesis that would have gone with that. If so we could have seen a completely different living story or at least a twist on what has already happened. Seems like Scarlet only came into the world after we voted for Ellen Kiel and the reactor fractal.
