GW2 tweeted that there were problems with the login servers and not due to server maintenance. The planned server maintenance actually happened yesterday, so it has already been completed.

This is normal for your beta character, not sure about the visual glitch tho. Your beta is a cloned copy of your regular account, so things you do on your normal account aren’t reflected when you load your beta and vice versa. It appears that the beta copy of your account isn’t done at the moment of beta character creation, but at a time before the beta started.

Elite spec only thing.

That was the whole point of the elite specialization. You are effectively assuming a new class and getting skills and traits that are not part of the old class. When you don’t take the elite trait line, then you are not changing your class at all, but remaining as your old class with its current skill/trait set. The new weapons and skills are what makes the elite class different.

In the article Guild Halls: Taken from the enemy -
“Once your guild is registered with the Guild Initiative, you’ll gain access to their new headquarters in Lion’s Arch. We’ve used new technology to make the Guild Initiative Headquarters an instance that is shared by you and your guild members. While the Initiative Headquarters is not a full guild hall, it will provide access to existing features that we’re moving out of the guild panel for those guilds that do not upgrade to the expansion.”

While this does not explicitly answer the OP’s original question, it does shed some light on what to expect for those who don’t upgrade.

Something else to consider is that we only had access to a portion of a single map. There are going to be more maps and hopefully more and different mechanics available. While the portion we played in seems confusing and repetitive, I am looking forward to more stuff being available when the expansion ships, or if we get more betas.

Got this from in-game mail from another player (as stated at the bottom of the email. Looks like a new phishing attempt. Reported it as scamming attempt.

Anyone who is looking for some casual game playing without the demands or pressure to perform and/or conform should look to The Mini Explorers [TME]. We are a small guild looking to grow, but retain our core goals of having fun and helping others. While it is true we do not have the amenities of other guilds (forum/chat/webpage), at this moment, it does not provide additional assistance or enhance the game like it does for much larger guilds. If we grow large enough, they they could be added later.

As River mentioned, we have no requirement to represent the guild 24/7. In fact, some of our members are already part of other guilds, and we still get together to tackle dungeons, run fractals, and/or take part in WvW. Again, our main focus is enjoying the game and having fun.
