Just a couple of generic alternate hair for each race which you get swapped to when you put on a helm would be fine. Mostly you just need the bangs to be accurate, and the hair just needs to cover your scalp inside the hood / helm so you don’t see skull if the camera angle is letting you peek under.
It wouldn’t work perfectly for all helms, but it would be a heck of a lot better than it is now, certainly.
This is essentially the solution I had in mind. It doesn’t have to be super complex and tailored to every single hairstyle available.
At the very least I just want my bangs, sideburns, and the back of the head (is there a term for that one?) to have some indication of hair existing.
I’d be fine with just 2 looks. Hair under helmet for those with hair, and our current bald look for characters that are actually bald. If Anet is really bold, they could go for three: Long helmet hair, short helmet hair, and bald helmet.
I think it would be possible to create a very patted down hair model to go under open helmets when they are put on. So long as the hair model is thin enough I don’t think it would clip with any of the helmets while providing just a little depth and realism to the hair (In other words its not simply a flat texture).
Edit: I can see this being more difficult for Sylvari though as all of their hairsyles consist of different leaves and such. But I’m sure Anet can use a little imagination to come up with a solution to that one.

I think pole-arms would be a great weapon addition if Anet chooses to do a Cantha expansion. We could have both European and Asian based pole-arms.
I’d go with pole-arms as opposed to just spears since they offer slashing options in addition to thrusts.
Not to mention I can imagine some very stunning pole-arms with guild banners attached to them.
I would like you to read that last comment again and think hard about whether or not it was directed at you. If you want to take a generic statement as a personal insult then that’s something you did to yourself.
You are suggesting that Anet spend time developing a “dye salvage kit” to sell on the gem store. The problem with this is that the primary use for such an item would be to salvage only the several expensive dyes on the market.
That would be it’s ONLY use.
It would be pointless to use it for any other dye except those few Rare blacks, whites, and golds because everything else is cheap and affordable.
What is the effect of this? The expensive rare dyes on the market all drop in price. Eventually they will drop and then stabilize in price to the point where it makes more economical sense to simply buy an additional Celestial dye than buy the “dye salvage kit” and use it on one that you already have.
Essentially Anet would have spent development time to create an item and dye salvage system that has very limited use and would see very limited purchases. It’s not a worthwhile effort.
Anet has repeatedly stated that they are not moving to account unlocks for dyes.
Also, the majority of dyes are so affordable there really isn’t a need to offer account unlocks for them. Only a handful can be considered expensive.
Playing the dye lottery just wouldn’t be as enjoyable either.
So you found a celestial dye and used it without knowing it’s potential value on the market. Tough luck. Not to sound like a total jerk or anything but that’s just something that’s bound to happen with any new game or content. I found a white dye and gave it to my engineer. However, I just couldn’t get it to blend well with anything. Ivory dye turned out much better for me. In hindsight I wish I would have given my white dye to a different character, but that’s just how it is and I’m perfectly fine accepting that.
Also, I could do without seeing everyone be bland and generic by wearing just black and white.
I would also like to throw my support behind this. I’m looking to give my Elementalist parts of the PvP Rubric set, however they are not obtainable through PvE.
Only the chestpiece is given as a reward through personal story. I would like all Rubric pieces to be obtainable by some means outside of personal story (Karma, crafting, etc).
So one improvement I would reaaaally like is having hair when I put on my headgear. I did a search and couldn’t find any recent discussion on the issue so here it is.
Currently whenever you put on a hat or helmet your hair vanishes and you turn bald. It just looks very awkward to have a character that is supposed to have hair, suddenly not have it.
It also affects beards and underwater re-breathers.
I understand this is because of possible clipping issues with hair and headgear, but it would be very nice to have some indication that my hair didn’t just disappear into nothingness.
I would say it is also in Anet’s best interest to create a solution to this because a lot of the town clothes headpieces they sell on the gem store look less than stellar because of it.
